I do appreciate that not only were the writers of OFMD kind to us, making sure to give us a hopeful, happy ending just in case, they also had their damn priorities straight. They had a limited amount of time, but they made sure we know:

Stede has horny dreams about Ed, so often and loudly that it frequently annoys others

Ed would still look amazing in a literal potato sack

When Izzy cries he just stares into the middle distance and whimpers like a kicked dog

Ed likes when Stede uses The Captain Voice and he gets a cute lil kitty cat collar. Not beating the submissive and breedable allegations

Stede FUCKS. Stede fucks so good it made Ed throw all his clothes off the boat

And I love them for all of that.

Hazbin Hotel Plothole?

SPOILERS FOR HAZBIN HOTEL AHEAD My friend pointed this out to me today and I can't stop thinking about it.

Okay so in episode 7, when Vaggie and Camilla are fighting, we get the following exchange:

Carmilla: “Before you found out about me, did you know that angels could be harmed?” Vaggie: “No” But earlier in the series we saw Vag herself get seriously hurt by Lute who was wielding an angelic weapon. So she would have to know then, right?

Also, Adam told the army he was going to kill Vaggie specifically. But he doesn't find out until later in the episode that angels can be killed by angelic weapons. So what was his plan? How did he plan to kill Vaggie if he didn't know she could be harmed?

Yet another parallel I didn't see first time around. David Jenkins is a goddamn genius with the amount of parallels he's putting in this show.

THIS! Both of them have opposing yet equally unhealthy ways of dealing with trauma and guilt. Until both of them learn to address their own mental health in a healthy way, neither of them will be ready for a relationship.

i wanna talk about the ‘treasure room’ because i think it does a really good job of summarising what’s happening between ed and stede at the moment.

stede ‘takes the initiative’ (or acts without discussing what he’s doing) and puts all of ed’s remaining treasure in one room that’s completely hidden. his reasons for putting it away are:

it was all over the place

he was tripping over it

some of it is quite ugly :/

and instantly ed hits him with the “excellent. a reminder of all my guilt. a guilt room. 😔🤘”

they’re not being subtle about it. this is a physical representation of their guilt and they’re demonstrating here exactly how they’re taking care of it.

ed is living with it. it’s in his space. sure it might be in the way but where else could he possibly put it? there’s so much of it and it’s his. there’s no use in just palming it off to someone else. no one wants this much treasure.

but stede can’t stand it and he has to deal with it now or he’ll die. so he just crams it into some hidden space and considers the matter resolved. it’s out of the way. it can’t hurt them if they don’t think about it. and it’s ugly! no one wants to look at something ugly, especially when they’re trying to rebuild their space.

but that’s just the thing. neither of them are actually dealing with or addressing the problem. stede has just. put it away.

WITHOUT ASKING ED WHAT HE THINKS THEY SHOULD DO WITH IT.

so they decide to just use it to throw this big party because surely that will fix it, right? that will get rid of the Treasure Issue.

WRONG!!

because they still didn’t talk about any of it. yeah they talked about “turning poison into positivity” and “giving some of it to the less fortunate” but they didn’t deal with the root of the problem. how did ed amass that much treasure in the first place? what’s the ideal way of getting rid of it? is there anything they want to keep?

they’re on such uneven planes this season because they can’t communicate to reach a common ground. ed is surrounded by his guilt and wants to leave it all behind. stede has just hidden the guilt and wants to pretend it isn’t even there.

I actually really love having a bunch of WIPs on the go. I love being able to pick and choose which one I feel like working on at the moment. I love being able to flip back and forth between a half dozen different stories just writing a scene or two on one before moving on to do the same thing on the next. I love the comfort of that story that's not quite fully gelled in my brain yet but it's there waiting for me to continue it once I've figured out where it's going. I love being able to choose which vibe is flowing right now. I love having some stories near the start and some near the end and a whole bunch at the midpoint.
