Hyperfocused mayhem. Mostly Good Omens at the moment. Other fandoms and cute shit will also show up. Didn't start Loki's Resistance, but I did come up with the name, so I've left my mark. I like to meta. Come at me.

This is going to be more of a thought-dump than anything eloquent, but I've seen a lot of people talk about how PresAux were so upset about Leebeebee getting shot but not the SecUnits that died. And like there's something there of subconscious human-centric bias, I'm sure, but I think it boils down to more than that.
Look, they saw Leebeebee's face. They talked to her. They empathized with her as a survivor and thought they could help her, Bharadwaj especially. Point is that they got to know her as a person (or, you know, thought they did) before she turned, and it was hard to shake off those preconceptions in such a short time.
None of that happened with the SecUnits. They showed up with faces covered and started shooting. Human or not, that makes a huge difference in how we perceive people.
I really do think that if they were attacked by faceless helmeted humans who just started shooting at them, at least some of PresAux would shoot back. And if they'd gotten to know another SecUnit the way they're starting to know Murderbot, only for it to turn on them, its death would've probably upset them. Without seeing that, we have no way of knowing how much, but it's something to think about.

the best part of Complementary Species was finally getting to see pouty Murderbot in all its glory
it finally got to go have an emotion in private, be frustrated with itself for having that emotion, then come back to the PresAux team with all the witty comebacks and petulance of the teens it sees in media

Dans ses écrits, un sage Italien
Dit que le mieux est l'ennemi du bien.
—Voltaire
He appears to refer to Montesquieu
Le mieux est le mortel ennemi du bien
—Montesquieu
The common rendering in English is:
Perfection is the enemy of good
I feel this is relevant to Murderbot, the TV show on AppleTV
It is NOT perfect, very few things are; perfection is a rare beast: if it even exists at all

We cannot have a show that pleases everyone, what we do have is a brilliant show which many of us adore
It is a show full of love for the source material, a show made with passion and imagination with some incredible acting
It is, in the words of our favourite SecUnit
A premium quality show

#Biting the bars of my cage at how Gurathin is comfortable being snippy with Murderbot #Everyone is so jumpy and scared of it and here he is injured and still sarcastic #I so hope they come to see how alike they are
Yes! Yes yes. This is what I noticed last ep. He used to be genuinely afraid of it but now... idk what it was, the fact that it DIDN'T shoot him might've gone to his head (whoops!) but he is definitely not scared of Murderbot anymore. He's actually become almost comfortable with it, in an extremely Gurathin-y lil bitch way. Now it's the others who are jumpy and uncertain about it. Gurathin's pretty much figured out where they stand, I think.
(It probably helps that he didn't give a shit about Leebeebee. He's mad that he got decorated with her gray matter. That's it. For the others, it was a traumatic event. For him, it was an annoyance. Like excuse me, right next to MY head?!)

I noticed you answered a question about an unexpected nest of construction workers outside someone's home. This morning there was a fire in my apartment complex, and the smoke attracted a large flock of firefighters. We were expecting them to fly over, do their usual rituals, and carry off the fire to eat later. The fire is gone now, and there's only water to deal with, but it looks like they've built a temporary nest in the parking lot and it's scaring off local symbiotic species (managers, caretakers, janitors, maintenance) while attracting parasitic visitors (cops, landlords, rubberneckers). Is there anything I can do to encourage the firefighters (loud and messy, but incredible plumage! so friendly!) to pack it up, so we can get rid of their toxic worsties?
if you start another larger fire nearby, they will be attracted to that one and will abandon their current site.

When it was discovered that Zalim (ironically meaning, cruel) was in the company of two very young cubs, those at Ranthambore feared the worst: that, as an adult male, he would kill them. Instead, he surprised naturalists with his “motherly” behavior when he took in his twin daughters following the death of their mother.
At this time, science stated that tigers were only as social as mothers and cubs could go and that tiger fathers rarely interacted with their offspring. Zalim changed that when he was witnessed, month after month, caring for his daughters and teaching them how to hunt. Their relationship eventually ceased when the two girls were shifted to Sariska Tiger Reserve and Zalim went on to father another litter with the then-dominant tigress Sundari, the so-called Lady of the Lakes. When she too mysteriously disappeared, Zalim unsurprisingly took care of their cubs as well.

a funny thing about having a Problematic Blorbo is that you'll periodically come across a post along the lines of "um let's not forget that [Blorbo] is a bad person..." listing their various crimes, and if you have a modicum of intellectual honesty you find yourself nodding along and saying yeah it's true... but it's the greyness of their character that makes them so compelling... At the same time though you have a little Saul Goodman in your ear going "your honor in their defense: who cares like omfgggg who caresssssss like come onnnnnn"
