Book 2 of 2019: The Female of the Species

This book has gotten a lot of hype, so I was hesitant going into it. I hate being disappointed by books with a lot of cult-favorite type of reviews, but I absolutely was not disappointed.

The Female of the Species by Mindy McGinnis

I was not ready for the emotional ride this book handed out. This was a badass novel about all sides of being a woman, and in particular about being a young woman in high school. The Female of the Species has been on my list for months, and I finally read it when a friend gifted it to me for Christmas. It was dark, it was funny, it was real.

As Alex enters her senior year of high school, she’s finally pushed out of her routine path of not being friends with anyone through a series of unexpected events. What those people don’t know about her, however, is that she killed the man who raped and murdered her sister four years earlier. Alex doesn’t feel like others are safe around her, so she hides. But as the year continues, her newfound friends will come to see the darker parts of her hiding in a broken and driven girl. 

Let me just tell you right now, you will never see the ending coming. Not in a million years. It unfolded so fast that I could barely believe it. And secondly, I love Alex. She is the character that I think most girls sick of being a girl in this world want to be. She punches guys who make rape jokes. She doesn’t slut-shame. She attacks men who roofie. She says what she thinks and ignores everyone with something to say about her. This novel is just excellent all the way through. It switches between three perspectives, which creates a really interesting dynamic as we get to see Alex from the two sides she presents to two different people. I can’t say enough about this book. McGinnis confronted so many things we deal with today and presents them in so many lights. She confronts what girls think and say about each other and why that is. She confronts the realities of rape and its effects, presenting different sides of the coin on what justice is appropriate for those who commit such acts. All I can say is that this book is worth the read. I don’t care who you are, what gender you are, how old you are. Read this goddamn book.

When Clarke leaves at the end of season 2, Bellamy decides that the adults can handle keeping the rest of the 100 safe and goes with Clarke. Instead of just Wanheda becoming a legend, it's the pair of them roaming the ground and assimilating into grounder culture.

You can make it platonic if that's your style but I'm a shipper at heart so I imagine they eventually get their shit together.

Q wants dream dead but knows no one will allow it if dream is the only one with the knowledge of the revive book

Q might want to get the information so he can finally kill dream? he also might want to bring schlatt back to use him as a political puppet, he wants their roles reversed so he can use schlatt but have all the power for himself

Quackity is power hungry. he has been forced into the shadows for too long. he wants control.

its possible Karl didn’t tell Quackity about Kinoko Kingdom because he’s almost forgotten him. the only reason he still remembers anyone else is because he sees them on a regular basis, but Q was away for a while so the inbetween could’ve potentially started to erase Quackity

Sapnap didn’t tell Quackity either because he hadn’t seen him since Q left to build Las Nevadas

my theories

Quackity doesnt know about Karls memory problems and therefore thinks Karl and Sap just left him behind. because of the trauma he went through from his relationship with Schlatt he always felt like the third wheel and needed reassurance that his fiancé’s really loved him

since they got engaged during a war they never had actual rings. Quackity was going to propose for real this time. he used his earnings from the start up of Las Navadas to buy rings and was hoping to have the three of them control the entertainment business

now that they made a kingdom without him he assumes he’s been left behind and doesn’t go through with it. i think this is what could really kick off his villain arc

he refuses the request to join Kinoko Kingdom. he no longer has anyone to hold him back, calm him down, or help him work through trauma. so boom now he might turn into the Onceler. 🎶how ba a a ad can i be🎵 vibes yk

Karl and Sapnap don’t push him because they think he just needs time and they have their own problems to work through. Karls memory has quickly been worsening along with the stress caused by time travel. Sapnap and George have to deal with the fact that their best friend, someone they’ve known since they were kids, is locked in prison for heinous crimes and just killed a guy to see if he could bring him back. their lives aren’t looking great right now.

i think quackitys main focus now will be to get the book information from dream so he can

revive schlatt and use him to expand business

even though he wants to be the front man, Quackity is good at working from behind the scenes. i heard theories about him controlling from the shadows, influencing people and manipulating them so he can get money and power and reach his objectives

id like to see more of Ranboo, Michael(if anything bad happens to that zombified piglin i swear-), the Tubbo Administration, and the Syndicate (even if there isn’t a government to take down i just like them)

id also like to see more lore from the gals, idk what kind of stuff they could do currently in regards to lore but everyone has a different story obviously the Las Navadas arc doesnt have to be the central point of the dreamsmp, but im sure they’ve got something planned and im waiting to see it because we support women ❤️

anyway this was just kind of a brain dump im not really sure how much of it is accurate and i will probably change my opinions later but this is how i feel now haha

Ok so I'm picturing high school au: Sapnap is on the football team and Karl does like track or something and whenever the track team is running while the football team is practicing, sapnap puts on a SHOW. He's tackling absolutely everybody, he's pushing his limit on the weights, he's doing the most. And the whole team starts to catch on, they're one by one making the connection between when the track team comes out and Sapnap just goes feral.

"M'name's James…"

James is drunk already. This fact is very clear to Karl. His face is flushed and he's stumbling over every other word (if he can get them out at all).

"James, huh."

James had introduced himself earlier that night. And again while he and Karl were sitting at the bar. And at least once or twice more later in the night. 

Karl doesn't mention it.

"My name is Karl."

Karl introduced himself several times that night, too. He could tell James to knock it off and take a nap in one of the guest rooms, but…he likes the sound of James's voice. It's warm and familiar…

"Karl?"

Karl feels lightheaded when James says his name (he tried to brush it off as the alcohol, even though he hasn't drunk tonight).

"Karl…" James stares at his feet when he speaks. "Did you mean it when you said I look nice?"

"Oh, uh-" Karl nearly drops his untouched bottle of wine. "Well, yeah, I-"

He catches James's grin out of the corner of his eye.

"Thank you…my...my wife...ex wife...didn't really…"

James doesn't finish his sentence. He doesn't need to, Karl understands. 

"You're very, very handsome."

For the first time that night, James's smile is something more than a shy grin. His face lights up and he actually looks Karl in the eyes.

He looks just like-

Karl shakes his head. He can't be thinking about his fiancé right now. James is not his partner. This isn't his home. 

Not yet, at least.

"Would you like to dance with me, James?"

"Well I'm...I'm not the best dancer, but...sure."

At the end of the night, Karl is left feeling empty. 

It's fine, it happens every time he's thrown into some time period that isn't his own. He always manages to run into someone who reminds him of his lovers.

"Sapnap…?"

The house is dark when Karl gets home. He's thankful Sapnap and Quackity don't question why he gets home so late.

"Sapnap…" He nudges Sapnap awake.

"Karl…?"

Karl's heart melts when he hears Sapnap mumble his name.

It's something so familiar, even mumbled in such a sleepy tone.

"Hi, handsome…"

"Karl, it's like...two in the morning..."

Karl crawls into bed, pulling Sapnap against his chest and holding him tight. "I know...just wanted to say hi..."

"Lovoo..."

"I love you too, Sapnap."

Since c/Karl doesn’t have control of when and how long he time travels what if right before his wedding he is a nervous reck, but then he is flung into the future where he’s already married and gets to experience that good domestic life for a bit and then returns right before the wedding crying tears of joy knowing that it will all be ok.
