Haven’t had much to share lately so here’s a #tbt. Way back when, I had the opportunity to work with #adventurelandpark naming a new #rollercoaster they were installing. I also created the artwork to be used on all their promotional materials. For you kids out there, this was way before the digital work flow that’s taken for granted nowadays. From the top down, a #midwestern themed name that didn’t make the cut, a marker comp evolution of the chosen name, and the final airbrushed artwork. I still love working with traditional tools and making things with my hands—getting away from the digital tools. But for commercial work like this, I would have welcomed an “undo” command and the flexibility to experiment that today’s tools offer. It was pretty nerve-racking working under deadlines, being many hours into a piece and knowing one wrong move could spell disaster.

A year or two back I watched the Netflix series Absract: The Art Of Design. Really good stuff. I loved this quote from Tinker Hatfield so finally got around to lettering it.

Recent personal project hand lettering the Serenity Prayer. Smaller text set in Copperplate. Most work done in Procreate on iPad Pro. Copperplate text set in Illustrator. The word GOD designed on iPad and built in Illustrator.

I recently had the opportunity to create a print for Sally Centigrade Art Gallery’s Travel By Screen series where a screen printed poster is made to represent an area code in each state. I live in Iowa's 641 area code which is mostly rural countryside with small-to-medium sized towns sprinkled throughout.

Title: Winds of Change Limited edition of 30 24" x 18", 4-screens / 1 split fountain Hand-pulled on French Paper, Pure White Construction, 100#c Winds of Change depicts a tired, old Studebaker truck that's been "put out to pasture" juxtaposed with a wind farm — an increasingly common sight in rural Iowa. The state bird, a Goldfinch, is perched on the hood ornament surveying the area. It's intended to pay tribute to the old fossil-fuel workhorse while welcoming the transition to new forms of clean, renewable energy. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Designed and printed this VW in the intended colors at very end of ‘17. Need the screens for an upcoming project so before reclaiming I did a test.
