I forgot I had a blog
No… really I did. I know in the world of Tik Tok and IG Stories vlogs people don’t read blogs too much anymore. I’m ok with that. We had a time though. My readers and contributors back when we were The K Word… were top tier epic. We laughed and cried through a lot. So I guess I will renew my blog for another year. Maybe I will write every few months when I have things to say. Maybe I…

Scrum the Ground... and other things I've learned in my 40s so far.
Scrum the Ground… and other things I’ve learned in my 40s so far.
So today is officially the end of my 40 year old probation. I have survived the first 90 days in my 40s… and chile. Whew! Let’s get to the good, the bag, and the other stuff. The Good Every black woman/person (but specifically, woman) should be in a book club. At the beginning of the year, I connected with 8 dope folx and we started our Book and Bites book club. We were all across the country…

So here's the thing...
So here’s the thing…
I am damn near 40 (as in next week). I am at a stage in life where a lot of things I thought were non-negotiable… were negotiated. People I thought I would know the rest of my life… I won’t. And there a myriad of other life lessons I got the hard way. But yes I am still around, still black and still gay. I am just in a new tax bracket, a new dress size, and with a whole new list of grown folks…

K Listen:@kelelam “Bank Head”
K Listen:@kelelam “Bank Head” is that sexy bop I need to hear when the club reopens
So I know I am often late to the party… it’s not because I don’t want to be there but sometimes I take the scenic route. That’s how I feel about queer artist Kelela and her song “Bank Head”
This is not new by any stretch of the imagination (it came out in 2013) but I heard it just a while ago on set for the first time. I didn’t know who sang it or even the name but it was a vibe that my spirit…

Quieting the Covid chaos - My Daily Routine
Quieting the Covid chaos – My Daily Routine
Hi Lovebugs!
I have been really excited and in love with my morning routine for the last few weeks.
For those that know me, I have been on a whole life affirming journey. As I am working on my next upcoming chapter (more coming — stay tuned), I have realized that I need to be more diligent and deliberate in how I spend my time and reach my goals.
I am a creature of habit. Both good habits…

And the Grammy Goes to…
Hi Lovebugs,
With all of the things going on last week, from the helicopter crash death of nine people, including NBA legend Kobe Bryant to my super fun time at the Super Bowl opening night, I missed posting about the Grammys.
But I would be remiss to not give a super loud congratulations to South Beach’s own Tracy Young for being the first woman ever nominated in the Best Remixed Recording…

A Love On Grand - Chapter 1: Sinclair
A Love On Grand – Chapter 1: Sinclair
Is this dude really serious? See I would be wrong if I slapped the shit out of him. As I looked around the bedroom I shared with David, my man of the last 5 years, I couldn’t believe I was actually in this situation. I was hoping something would happen and I would wake up out of this crazy ass nightmare but there was absolutely nothing that could erase my reality.
As I walked into the living room…

Happy Super Bowl Week Lovebugs!
We are in full on Super Week hysteria in Miami. The traffic is backing up, celebrities are touching down and parties are going all around. If you are a sports fan or music fan, this is the place to be.
I must say I am not the biggest football fan. I love a good tailgate and the atmosphere, but I am definitely not a die hard fan. So I wasn’t exactly sure what I was getting into when my friend Donna suggested we go to the Super Bowl opening night at the Marlins stadium to kick of Superbowl LIV. I knew I was going to have a good time with one of my great friends, but I was fully ready to be bored. Boy was I wrong! I had an absolute blast.
Here are the 5 Best Things About the Super Bowl Opening Ceremonies.
A Moment of Silence for the Black Mamba: As the sports world is still reeling after the tragic helicopter crash that lead to the deaths of 9 people including, NBA superstar Kobe Bryant and his 13 year old daughter, it was no surprise that is touched the event. The event kicked off with a serene moment of silence, that ended when fans began to cheer “Kobe! Kobe!”
RIP Kobe
2. There were smiles everywhere: As the players went from correspondent to correspondent, there was an air of joy. Some of these young men were on their way to their first Super Bowl, while other vets were possibly at their last time in the game. One thing is for sure they were having the time of their life. I was overcome and happy to see all that #blackboyjoy.
Demone Harris, LB, #54 Kansas Chiefs City was all smiles on his insta/snap/FT whatever haha
3. My flashing hat was a hit!: Once I found out that my friend J, a die hard KC fan, was coming in town with her parents, I went straight to Amazon for my gear. A couple strokes later I found the most amazing item ever… my flashing KC chief beanie. It became a beacon of light when Donna and I got lost. It also however landed me A LOT of Kansas City questions…. that I just smiled and smooth bypassed. Trust me I am boning up before the big day.
Yes my glasses are dirty… judge yo Mama
4. The Kansas City mascot and cheerleaders are game ready. These sweethearts, Taylor and Kaitlyn, were so excited to tell me that their pompoms will be in the Superbowl. And shoutout to our impromptu photog who knew how to work the angles!
See those blinking lights!
A little happenstance, and a little black girl magic. It was pretty cool when I happened to be at the gate where ALL of the Kansas Chiefs left to go back to the team bus. I got to crack a joke with Frank Clark (and his fabulous glasses), taking a selfie with the man with the plan, offensive line coordinator, Eric Bieniemy, getting a kid’s football signed for him by Demarcus Robinson (and his fresh hair cut) and just being swept up in the fun of flashing lights from the cameras (and my hat). It was such a rush.
*Honorable mention, getting to see San Francisco coach Katie Sowers speak. I am always team women + definitely team lesbian.

SUPER GAY MOVIE REVIEW OF THE WEEK: LEZ BOMB
SUPER GAY MOVIE REVIEW OF THE WEEK: LEZ BOMB
Sooo I know calling this the super gay movie review of the week is misleading.
This should be called the super gay movie review of the year… the decade… the first time in a really freaking long time.
Now if I was on top of my lezzie game I would have seen this around the holidays. But… I wasn’t. I was traipsing around Spain, Portugal and Morocco with Momma K (blog about that coming down the…

KTravel: Micheladas on Rosarito Beach
Hi Lovebugs!
Here is a repost from my trip to Rosarito, Mexico. It was absolutely necessary and absolutely right on time.
One of the best takeaways I had came in the cup (don’t judge me!). Say hola to the Mexican answer to the Bloody Mary – the Michelada! It’s light, refreshing and made with a dash of hot sauce.

Sew Right Reads: The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead
Yeah…yeah…yeah. I haven’t written in a while. The last few weeks at work and the rollercoaster that is my personal life have caught me slipping. But like Sister said to Celie, from now on NOTHING BUT DEATH WILL KEEP ME FROM IT. Well death and a bad wi-fi connection.
Anyway I have been reading A LOT of books lately and I can’t wait to share. Remember I told you all that Mama Sew Right and I have a…

Five Reasons I Didn't Kill Myself...
Five Reasons I Didn’t Kill Myself…
Hi Lovebugs,
I am not sure if this post needs a trigger warning because the title of the post is pretty self explanatory. This weekend I had to find five reasons not to want to die. I really should change the title if I think about it. I was not going to be an active participant in my own demise HOWEVER, the thought of death was comforting.
I won’t go into the details of the who and the why of…
