in short every characs in orv are either weird, depressed or probably both
Actually I'm not done talking about yoohankim's awful digital footprint pre-scenarios. Kim Dokja gets a lot of flack for being chronically online and cringe and that's fair enough but let's just acknowledge that neither Yoo Joonghyuk or Han Sooyoung are ANY better.
For Han Sooyoung it's obvious. Despite having her own sucessful webnovel, presumably with fans who support her, she gets obsessed with her one hater who thinks she is a plagiarist, finds the "original" novel where this guy was the only commenter on every chapter, and instead of reading her own comments she spends her time reading HIS and imagining he's saying that about her writing. She does this for years. DERANGED BEHAVIOUR. Pre-scenarios Han Sooyoung has no excuse to be acting this crazy. Sent to internet jail for being weird online.
1863rd Han Sooyoung. Automatically get a pass to act unhinged bc after going through the apocalypse that's just expected and also the only person she talks to for 13 years is Kim Dokja and a creepy old man who calls her god, BUT. That being said she's a perfectly average and healthy internet user! Spends literally every waking moment writing a shitty webnovel so hard pieces of her soul chip away and infuse in it, sure, but she doesn't bother anyone, just does her own thing, posts the chapters and occasionally chats with her one commenter. The most normal one here. Somehow.
Kim Dokja. Big fan of a webnovel and can get intense about it sometimes, starts fights online defending his fave character, recommends the same novel so much he gets banned from forums, whatever. WE'VE ALL BEEN THERE IS WHAT IM SAYING. This is nothing too crazy, only about the level of an average fandom superfan. Uses his real name online which is certainly a choice but some people do that in real life too. Giving him a pass, I was also a cringey emo teen on the internet once. (and im still cringe and emo)
Yoo Joonghyuk as seen in Yoo Mia side story. Absolutely glued to his phone. He checks it while eating breakfast, while in the car being driven to work, while literally walking down the street so that Yoo Mia has to tell him to put it away and hold her hand! He is basically addicted to reading hate comments about himself. In his narration he mentions that there are only a few regulars in the forums he lurks in and that he recognizes all their usernames, accidentally revealing that he's in too deep and officially lost in the sauce. Even his manager tells him he should stop reading the comments because they clearly upset him, but he justifies it to himself by thinking quote, "If someone has a grudge against him, he just needs to be prepared to face that hatred. Then everything is under his control." That last line especially is such a cope, and reveals that this behavior is another one of his desperate attempts to feel in control of his life, and as pathetic as that is and as much as I feel sympathy this is being weird online and I'm sending him to Internet jail.
Bonus round: Secretive Plotter. Need I say anything. Absolutely glued to his phone AGAIN, no it doesn't make it better that sometimes it's his kkomas instead of him. Canonically has a bound book of every single comment Kim Dokja ever left on WOS, printed out, which is more freak mode than even Han Sooyoung went. Straight to jail.

SHUTT my cousin told me that he didn't like how kdj kept stealing and copying yoo joonghyuk!!!
“go to hell” is basic. “i hope your best friend reads orv and thinks it's mid” is smart. it’s possible. it’s terrifying.

once again thinking abt ORV as one of the most brilliant and self-aware genre commentaries ever, cus' isekai/transmigration is-- in my experience-- a deeply lonely genre. the yearning to be plucked from the stress and apparent dead spiral of real life and dropped into a setting where you matter somehow. the fact that this transmigration is often by way of death, completely abandoning the real world, is particularly telling and... bleak. but whether it's a recognition of being 'the most baddass dude', the narrative satisfaction of trying to 'fix' the plot of a doomed story, or even just befriending characters we've laughed and cried for, we want so badly to be a part of something more.
and the way ORV recognizes that and doesn't mock it, but gently reminds us that... real life isn't removed from that. it may not be as straightforward and 'narratively' satisfying as a constructed story, but we can enact change in the world around us, and we can find connection and solidarity in others. the things we want from escapism are things we often can achieve in real life, at least on a small scale. if only we recognize the inherent depth and complexity of others as, y'know, fully-realized human individuals. hell, if we recognize ourselves as more than simple characters with set paths and tropes.
ORV takes every opportunity to remind us that we are not alone, no matter how bleak and isolated we feel. our lives are constantly touching others and vis-versa, and we leaves marks on the world we can't possibly predict. we matter, we always always matter

so we know that orv is basically kim dokja's self insert ways of survival fix-it fanfic right. and we know that his narration is coloured by his interpretation of the characters and the way he sees not only the real world, but also the world of ways of survival. anyway can we talk about how his self insert happy ending fanfic involves him working closely with the protagonist, his favourite character ever, and he spends a good chunk of it thinking - despite all evidence to the contrary - that yoo joonghyuk doesnt care about him. he thinks its out of character for yoo joonghyuk to like him. he thinks its OUT OF CHARACTER for his FAVOURITE CHARACTER to LIKE HIM. im going to be sick
and it has to do with the way he conceptualizes himself as a "self insert" - he doesnt consider himself a person yoo joonghyuk would care about because he doesn't consider himself a person yoo joonghyuk interacts with. it's about the divide between a character and a real person..... if a new character that could rival yoo joonghyuk's strength showed up in ways of survival, proved himself trustworthy, and did everything he could to make sure yoo joonghyuk didn't die, of COURSE yoo joonghyuk would begin to trust that character - especially in the early regressions. but kim dokja isn't a character. he's manipulating the story from the other side of the fourth wall - he's not someone yoo joonghyuk can have a relationship with. (almost like the oldest dream..... ohhh my god. head in hands.) of course we aren't companions - he's a character and i'm a real person. they're incarnations and i'm a constellation. they're all real people and i'm a character, written and sold by my own mother. theres a thick wall between us.....
and why would you conceptualize it that way kim dokja. why would you tell a story where all the characters get a happy ending but you arent a character. why does your idea of a good story involve none of your companions caring about whether you live or die. kim dokja i am knocking on the wall

I will start threading comments or replies from a socmed platform or probably statements I've heard in real life that's just... you'll get when you see it.
- "they're cheap where she comes from." the cheap in context was a filipina woman.
- "if your crush doesn't like you back, then just get her pregnant, bro."

"she did it all for love."
shes the most selfish person alive. she poured herself out in an act of pure selflessness. she agreed to help in a pity suicide. she cried when he died. she was engaged to him once. she loves someone else. she can't stand him. one time she died to make them talk to each other. she got his dick blown off. she took care of his little sister for him. she killed his little sister. she kept him alive. she was kept alive by him. she brought him to life. she tortured him endlessly. she killed millions. it was all to keep a little boy alive in the midst of tragedy. she was neglected. she had an average life. she loves lemon candies. she smokes from stress. she did it all for love. she died in a train station, never getting his attention. she was greedy and wanted the other 51%. she wrote him back to existence. she did it all over again just to reach out to him. she wrote his life story as a goodbye love letter. she's god, she's powerless, she saved him, she looked back and lost him. she's jealous of the love he has for her creation. if it can keep him alive, she'll keep writing for eternity.

I have never imagined myself to be in a group of friends filled with boys. the typical filipino "the boys" friend group in context are usually filled with playboys that either plays ml or cod, or probably men who just plays games but all in all their toxicity is on another level.
there was a time na sumabay ako sa friend ko na mag-lunch and i wasn't informed na makiki-table pala kami sa friends ng boyfriend nya, i didn't mind it naman so i ordered na lang and sat. while we were eating they would constantly joke around, yk, just messing around like any other friend group would, BUT their jokes are SO UNHINGED like not in an ironic way but more like MESSED UP. They would show each other disgusting pictures while eating yung parang pagkain na may maggots and yung iba gory pictures. i didn't mind... i mean I TRIED TO NOT MIND IT, but still I stayed quiet and unfazed by their clownings and they would tell me na "naluodan na ni si ky ba" i responded with "wala uy" pero naluodan gid ko noh! but kinsa ra ba gyud ko noh!? like nakisabay lang man ako sa friend ko 😭 walan koy rights na mag complain, but one of them says something na stuck parin sa utak ko and whenever I think about it just makes my perception about men more and more worse, they were talking about their friend's crush (kasama namin sa table yung friend na yon) and then one of them says "kabalo ka, dong. kung wala ka gani gi-crushback sang crush mo, buntisa na dayon" and they all just laughed, some of them just casually ate after laughing, I wanted to curse at them but all I could yell was "HOY BUANG!". buang. buang ang akong gi-ingon, but deep inside concerned kaayo ko sa fact na parang normal lang na joke yon para sa kanila. there were so many questions I wanted to ask, but I kept them all to myself. ganito ba lahat ng mga lalake? alam ko na hindi, may mga lalake na a bit more sane than others but the fact that this could be passing through someone's mind is just...
i-edit ko lang yung mga additional rants ko later
