i thought this would be kinda Obvious, but i’ll say it because weirdos:

the weird conversation about ginny never happens and hermione Is viktor’s Close Friend and he takes a somewhat protective role over her, and if/why he took her to the ball would be discussed with people who roleplay hermione, but by default her being a muggleborn and their friendship coming under scrutiny by karkarov plays a part into his decision. 

hermione being his hostage is also debatable. viktor does not have many friends or any younger siblings, and bitterly karkarov wouldn’t mind giving him trauma about failing to save someone he cares about, but at the same time the hostage could be one of the younger students who looks up to viktor as an icon that he’d feel a need to save and a duty to succeed for, which until further notice would be the default. 

anyway, the weird pedo undertones are weird, and don’t have any purpose lmao.

the veselinovs are not a large wizarding family,  nor a rich one. veselin was a legendary auror, and stood up to grindelwald and challenged him personally. 

veselin veselinov became the subject of many a song on the street and a poem for children about loving liberty too much. a hero of justice and fairness. 

milen, veselin’s orphaned son that never met him and viktor’s father, grew up an orphan and was a squib and generally skipped by history altogether. his marriage to marva, a ‘foreigner’ and a black woman REALLY made him even more unpopular among many of the durmstrang elite who’d love to profit off hit name. 

the name viktor krum was agreed upon by gringotts and karkarov to be most befitting for his quidditch career, and an attempt to further alienate him from his heritage and name. he would accept it as opportunities were few, he was not a gifted student and his family was in no financial position to argue much with sponsors or karkarov.
