An intense battle between two male giraffes unfolds in this video by @daniel.wraith… Males ‘rut’ like this to establish dominance and mating rights, although the results are less definitive in giraffes compared to other herbivores that engage in rutting. You can always spot a male or female giraffe because of this behaviour too - males have bald tops to their horns because the rutting rubs the hair off, whereas females don’t rut and have spiky black fur on the top of the horns…! ☺️🦒 𝗟𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗞𝗿𝘂𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸?? Big birding news!! This lesser whitethroat has been causing quite a stir in Marloth Park this week - it migrates between Europe and central Africa, but this guy appeared this week and is the first ever record of this species in the Southern Africa region! How about this for something unusual!! This amazing serval image by @nico_sauermann seems to have caught this small cat species at a rather grumpy moment - I don’t think we’ve ever seen a serval showing it’s teeth this before…! Absolutely fascinating footage. In this video by the team @malamalagamereserve, these ellies appear to pay their respects to a fallen comrade. What an amazing image by @kruger1866…! Monitors prey on the eggs of crocodiles by digging down into the subterranean nests that the mother lays them in.
