I think that when someone says that a certain character can “fix them”, they don’t mean that the character will make all their problems vanish. What I think they’re saying is that if said character were real, they could motivate them to change. Change has to be internal, and one person won’t “fix you”(you are the only one who has to live with yourself—your thoughts, no one can really change you mind). I think that a factor of changing and improving is having support. When people say fictional characters can fix them, they mean that if they were real they’d support them in trying to fix themselves, acting as motivation and perhaps guidance.

Tl;dr: If a characters was real they couldn’t fix you, but they could support/motivate you in changing yourself.(change is largely internal, but external factors influence it).
