If I had a nickel for every charismatic, seductive, musically talented baddie with a snake motif and a mysterious past, who was written by a Problematic White Guy and goes down in a brief fight preceded by a drawn-out argument, I'd have two nickels.
I have to specify the bit about musical talent and a mysterious past, or else I could also be talking about the young version (pre-Fiennes, with hair and a nose) of an evil wizard written by a certain Problematic White Gal.

Unpopular opinion: I think it's worth thinking about social media in terms of sobriety much like we do alcohol.
I get internet addiction is it's own thing but as someone who's been sober for the last 2 years - longest point at any time in my adult life - they fucking feel pretty similar. I finally went all in on cutting out all social media but Tumblr a few weeks ago and I'm having very similar symptoms to when I cut out drugs and alcohol. It's like parts of my brain I didn't realize had shut off are coming back online.
And what I mean by this specifically is that in the same way that we have discussions about lack of sober (per alcohol) spaces in communities - especially the queer community - I think it's worth having those conversations around social media sobriety too.
The people who designed some of our biggest platforms used the same techniques as casino gambling. If every community event was held in a casino and gambling was basically required, we'd probably at minimum have a discussion about it. But mention it with social media and everyone acts like you're against the printing press/reading.
I'm just saying it should be normal to maintain friendships outside of social media. And it's been real slim pickings which friends have kept in touch off of it.
Reminds me of how part of what kept me in the bar scene was because my friends only ever wanted to hang out at them. Which kept me drinking. Which was...not great for me. At minimum.
Not pushing a specific solution - just saying it's worth considering. Does your community have gathering spaces that aren't selling ad space and dictated in part by an algorithm? Does maintaining friendships require a major platform? Can people find out about events without needed to sign up for a Facebook account? Etc.

i think everyone even cis people should have a deadname. like. picking out your own name and choosing your own identity should be such an integral part of being human. casting away all the falsehoods of childhood and keeping only the love and the wisdom you’ve gained and using that to construct a new self, a new personhood… idk i think cultures that call kids a placeholder name and let them pick their own once they reach maturity were doing something right

one thing I do like a lot about tumblr is that posts always seem like they're visible and being interacted with, even if the numbers are generally lower. on twitter it feels like art will be seen by an arbitrary selection of people for approximately 4 minutes and unless it goes viral in that time then it'll never be seen again

Reminder that Pokémon, being animals, don't wear clothes unless explicitly specified !
Meaning, in the case of Gardevoir's "dress", it's not actually cotton, tissue or silk !
Those are skin flaps.

Milk cannot remain unspoiled for a long time, while cereal is the exact opposite. The collision of transience and eternity, life and death, creates a unique moment where your whole life flashes before your eyes every time you taste this gift of God.

Apropos of nothing in particular (but mostly prompted by the fact that I work with preteens who are incredibly judgy of each other and themselves), I just want to remind anyone who’s feeling self conscious that pimples are NOT a moral failing and an indication that you are ‘dirty’ or ‘don’t clean your face right’ or ‘don’t eat right’.
Yes, there are foods that make acne less likely, and yes some things like sleeping on a towel/changing your pillowcase CAN help, but 80% of it is hormones, genetics and an amalgamation of irrelevant bullshit.
Trust me - I eat so many fats and sugars, and the way I wash my face would make the skincare routine fandom riot, and I still have relatively clear skin because I simply got fucking lucky. That’s it, that’s the trick.

what I say: I’m fine
what I mean: in Avatar: The Last Airbender, the ending theme is a sort of positive foreshadowing that follows you throughout the whole show until, in S3E13 The Firebending Masters, you find out that it’s the rythm to the dancing dragon which Aang and Zuko work through together. In that moment, the show makes you fully realize just how much Zuko was destined from the start to be part of Aang’s support and so much more than what he seemed early on in the show. The ending/dancing dragon theme was there from the beginning to hint that the show was not only about Good vs Bad, but that it was also a story about redemption and about how Zuko would have his own part to play but only after he’d gone through his own journey separate from that of a classic villain character chasing after the main protagonist. In this essay I will-
