Hybrid Au — Donquixote Pirates
Well, I finally finished another set of these reference points/headcanon lists... >A> As with the previous post, this is a basic rundown of my Hybrid Au ideas for this particular batch of characters. I skipped a few of the Donquixote bunch that I'm just not personally interested in, but y'all reading this are welcome to ask for any of the unincluded ones if you want to!
As should be obvious, xeno abounds, as well as a degree of implied angst (what you should expect from me tbh), and slight nsfw in the form of non-explicit description of hybrid genitalia and/or related behaviors. My Hybrid Au also does NOT involve Devil Fruit powers.
Yes, Sugar (who wouldn't have had her aging stopped by her fruit in this setting) and Dellinger are included. If this bothers you, either skip over their sections or move on to another post. 👍
. . .
Donquixote Doflamingo — Siberian Crane
Physical
Large wings with snow-white feathers, save for a few black ones near the wingtips. Though the wings look majestic, their size far exceeds what his body can comfortably handle— and chronic back and shoulder pain is one unfortunate result.
More patches of feathers are scattered around his back (especially near the base of his wings), neck, and shoulders.
Capable of brief bursts of flight. It’s a strain on his muscles to stay airborne for long, but his impressive size and wingspan make for an intimidating sight while it lasts.
Though he has the instinct for a variety of bird-like calls, he tries to keep any inhuman noises suppressed. Even if no one else understands them, the noises show far too much emotion for his liking.
Cloaca instead of external penis and testicles, with a small bump near the upper edge that resembles a glans in appearance and sensitivity.
Behavioral
Highly territorial of space that’s “his”, and highly aggressive when that territory is threatened. This goes double for any people that he happens to get attached to; when the right instincts kick in, he’s viciously protective and possessive over them.
Takes good care of his feathers, and hates being seen with them in any state of visible disarray. Preening is a common stress reflex for him, and it can get near-obsessive when he’s stressed.
Because of this, molting is absolute misery. The physical discomfort is bad enough, but having anyone see his wings while the feathers are patchy and mussed is an absolute nope. Tends to rip open pin feathers before they’re ready, in the vain hope it’ll get rid of them faster.
Migratory instincts lead to a strange sort of seasonal depression— changing seasons leave him restless, agitated, and especially irritable.
Romantic or sexual relationships can quickly lead to an intense, hard to get rid of bond. Despite his flirtatious mannerisms, he avoids having flings for fear of the vicious attachment that follows.
Donquixote Rocinante — Siberian Crane
His wings are slightly crooked from past breaks (which worsens the already frequent pain they cause), and he’s usually missing a few visible clumps of feathers due to clumsiness-induced accidents.
Not-quite-human noises come more easily to him; notably, his usual dramatic falls come with a near-comedic distress call.
Cloaca instead of external penis and testicles, with a small bump near the upper edge that resembles a glans in appearance and sensitivity.
Behavioral
Instinctively territorial, but tries to keep any irrational, aggressive reactions suppressed. He won’t get visibly agitated over mere space or things, but messing with the people he’s attached to doesn’t end well. Can be somewhat possessive if his self-control slips.
Naturally forms intense, long-lasting pair bonds with a romantic partner. Non-committed relationships aren’t possible because of how attached he gets, so he tries to avoid intimacy altogether.
Migratory instincts lead to a strange sort of seasonal depression— changing seasons leave him restless, agitated, and especially irritable.
Struggles to take care of his own feathers— Doffy usually handled wing-grooming for him when he was little, and his own persistent clumsiness means that any attempts of his own tend to end in pain, a mess, or both. Thus, his wings look perpetually messy.
...molting, of course, only makes that problem worse. Has a bad habit of accidentally ripping pin feathers out much too soon, and taking even longer to regrow his feathers because of it.
Trebol — Mole Salamander
Physical
Has a thick, flat tail that spans from his lower back to his tailbone, and is long enough to drag on the floor when he’s standing. The tail is solid, strong... and by far the slimiest part of him.
Patches of thin, dark gray skin are found across his body, the largest of which spreads from the base of his tail up to the middle of his back. This skin is much more sensitive than the “normal” areas, to the point where any chemicals, salt, or sudden temperature changes hurt.
His skin secretes a thick, slimy mucus that’s meant to keep itself hydrated and protected from environmental dangers. The darker areas produce more of this substance than the human-textured ones.
His vision is meant for nocturnal conditions, and is thus poor in bright daylight. Keen senses of smell and touch somewhat make up for it.
Has a cloaca instead of a penis. The opening is located where a phallus would be on a human, while the internal structure is similar in shape (and self-lubrication) to a vaginal canal.
Behavioral
Feels safest in dark, enclosed spaces. Although he sees giving in to his burrowing instincts as far too undignified to indulge in (at least, when anyone else can know about it), he can’t quite stifle his discomfort when forced to stay somewhere too bright and exposed.
Cold weather makes him sluggish and irritable; so long as no one notices, he’d prefer to stay shut up in his room and rest.
He’s acutely aware of how disgusting his body is to others. While he’s more than willing to use that disgust to his advantage, the constant repulsion still does a number on his self-image.
Despite his typically cocky behavior, certain triggers cause instinctive stress responses such as ducking his head (which only worsens his awful posture), lashing his tail back and forth, freezing up until the threat passes, or even detaching his tail if truly frightened.
The darker patches of skin are so sensitive that even skin-on-skin contact can be painful. Other people would need some kind of barrier (like gloves) to touch him without causing pain.
Diamante — Bearded Vulture
Physical
Has large, feathered wings with a wingspan that’s impressive even for his already towering height. The wings are narrow, and covered in dark, dusty-gray feathers, with lighter shades underneath.
The sheer size of his wings means that back and shoulder pain is constant— and contributes significantly to his terrible posture.
More patches of feathers are scattered across his body, most prominently reddish-cream-colored ones forming a ruff-like collar around his throat and upper chest, and the same gray from his wings spreading farther across his back.
Surprisingly hardy, considering his lanky, fragile-looking form. He’s much stronger than he looks, both in terms of physical power and sheer resilience in harsh living conditions.
Cloaca instead of external penis and testicles, with a small bump near the upper edge that resembles a glans in appearance and sensitivity.
Behavioral
An instinctive urge to show off drives him to flashy behavior and flaunting his accomplishments at any opportunity, but there’s little genuine confidence to back it up.
Though his diet is meant to include bones (often eaten whole, at that), the “disgusting” habit feels far too dirty and undignified, so he’ll avoid it as long as “better” food is available. He’s had to survive off of scraps before, though, and he’s more than capable of doing it again.
His feathers fluff up when he’s distressed or agitated— half as an instinctive attempt to ward off a potential threat, and half as a sort of self-soothing gesture.
Although he only molts a few feathers at a time, the process still makes him irritable and irrationally self-conscious.
He can’t maintain flight for very long, but he’ll make good use of those few minutes. The thrill of high altitudes and showy aerial displays is well worth the sore muscles he’ll suffer afterward.
Pica — African Bush Elephant
Physical
Large, triangular-shaped ears made mostly of thin, delicate, dark gray skin. The ears reach a little past his shoulders when at rest, but they’re very mobile— flapping or fanning out much more expressively than the usual blank, stoic look on his face.
Long, thin tail with the same gray, textured skin as his ears, and a small tuft of bristly hair at the tip.
Two of his upper incisors extend into tusks. Although they (fortunately) aren’t as long as those of his animal counterpart, the tusks still extend a good few inches outward from his mouth.
Penis is large in proportion to his body size, and much less stiff than a normal human’s, even when erect. When fully erect, a slight S-shaped curve in the shaft is present.
During winter, a cycle called “musth” occurs. This process involves spiking hormones and libido... which only makes his already-volatile emotions and short temper even more unstable. Self-isolating is the best coping method he’s found, although the loneliness hurts.
Behavioral
Highly emotional, and much more sensitive than his massive body and stony expressions would suggest. Little things can easily send him spiraling, and he lacks the emotional control to hide it.
Social by nature, any kind of prolonged isolation does terrible things to his mental state. He forms strong attachments to the people close to him, and without those immediate bonds, he’ll get increasingly anxious and volatile. Rejection is especially painful because of this.
His hearing is extremely sensitive, especially to low-frequency sounds like the ones he can also produce. Despite his high-pitched speaking voice, his non-verbal communication includes a wide array of sounds well past what normal humans can register.
Very receptive to tactile communication; he’d be a lot more “touchy” with others if he wasn’t so afraid of accidentally hurting them.
The “musth” state functions similarly to a rut— he’s restless, aggressive, and easily agitated until it passes. Increased libido is the primary cause, but he’s too self-conscious to outright admit that.
Vergo — Mammoth Jack Donkey
Physical
Tall, upright, oval-shaped ears with a tapered, pointy tip, and covered in thick, black fur. They’re quite mobile, with a wide range of rotation (such as flattening back against his head when he’s distressed). Petting behind them makes his brain short-circuit a bit.
Thin, dark-furred tail with a tufted tip that’s the same shade of black as his ears. Tail reaches just past his knees when he’s standing.
Overall thicker and coarser body hair than a normal human, with more prominent patches on his lower back (near the base of his tail), on his lower limbs, and along his spine.
Can and will eat nearly anything. Between a hardy digestive system and an apparent lack of taste buds, he’s far from picky about what he eats (and thus, what ends up on his face).
Sheathed penis that emerges when aroused. When fully erect, the area between the sheath and shaft is extremely sensitive.
Behavioral
Despite his often spacey behavior, prey-animal instincts make him wary of potential threats. Easily startled by sudden movements or sounds... although he’s trained himself out of showing it.
Those prey instincts can also make him lash out if he feels cornered, and his strength means that reflex is dangerous.
Although he can be territorial towards others (especially other males), he’s a herd animal by nature, and still craves close social bonds. Both emotional closeness and physical contact help his mental state stay stable, and isolation leads to increased aggressive behavior.
His ears and tail give a lot of cues about his feelings— even feelings that he isn’t consciously aware of.
Highly stubborn when he doesn’t trust someone’s orders or authority, but obedient and hard-working when he does. Responds well to “training”, whether that means behavioral commands or physical labor.
Monet — Himalayan Rabbit
Physical
Tall, upright ears with fur the same hue as her hair, but a much darker shade. Ears are soft and very sensitive, both physically and in terms of hearing. Pulling or rough handling hurts horribly, so she’ll go to great lengths to avoid other people handling them.
Small, puffball-like tail at the base of her spine. The fur on it is the same dark shade as on her ears, and exceptionally soft. Equally delicate as her ears; and she hates it being handled just as much.
Excellent hearing, and keen senses, in general. Prey instincts make her highly alert and perceptive... if not a bit paranoid.
Stronger teeth than a normal human, and a chewing habit because of it. Gnaws on random small objects when she’s bored, although she’ll try to keep other people from seeing her do it.
Genitalia looks mostly the same as a normal human’s, but her vulva and the area around it get noticeably red and swollen with arousal.
Behavioral
Strong nesting instincts. Her bed is a burrow of the softest, nicest blankets and pillows available, and she sleeps curled up and buried in the midst of them all. Tends to nuzzle into soft things on reflex, but will stop as soon as she realizes she’s doing it.
Prey instincts make her jittery and anxious. No matter how hard she tries to hide it, she’s one bad scare away from a nasty panic attack. Avoids situations that put her at risk of losing her cool.
Highly social by nature, but has projected most of her neediness into a deep, almost co-dependent bond with her sister.
Very sensitive to physical touch; at the same time that gentle handling can be utter bliss, she easily gets overstimulated (if not aroused) by the contact. A suddenly shy, flustered reaction means too much.
Grooming the fur on her ears or tail is greatly appreciated... and her attempting to return the favor is a subtle show of submission.
Sugar — Himalayan Rabbit
Physical
Tall, upright ears with fur the same hue as her hair, but a much darker shade. Ears are soft and very sensitive, both physically and in terms of hearing. Pulling or rough handling hurts horribly, so she’ll have an absolute fit if they’re messed with against her will.
Small, puffball-like tail at the base of her spine. The fur on it is the same dark shade as on her ears, and exceptionally soft. Equally delicate as her ears; any sudden touch will earn a startled squeak.
Excellent hearing, and keen senses, in general. Prey instincts make her highly alert and perceptive, and short-tempered because of it.
Stronger teeth than a normal human, and a chewing habit because of it. Gnaws on small objects either out of boredom... or as a destructive method of getting attention.
Gets fussy and irritable if she doesn’t have access to proper bedding and a place to hide.
Prey instincts make her jittery and anxious. Although she tends to cover up her fear with snappy, bratty behavior, she’s a nervous wreck on the inside more often than not.
Highly social by nature, but has projected most of her neediness into a deep, almost co-dependent bond with her sister.
Very sensitive to physical touch; at the same time that gentle handling can be utter bliss, she easily gets overstimulated (if not aroused) by the contact. Unexpected touch will get you yelled at, or worse.
Foot-thumping reflex when she’s especially annoyed or excited... or just wanting attention. Most often, she doesn’t notice she’s doing it.
Viola — Bateleur
Physical
Broad, feathered wings that are primarily dark brown, striped with wide bands of lighter brown and black-tipped gray. The undersides are a paler, uniform shade of grayish brown.
More patches of feathers are scattered across her body— most prominently, a dark brown and cinnamon streak along her back, more dark brown on her throat and shoulders, and more of the cinnamon brown leading down to her tail.
Tail is short, with cinnamon brown feathers on the upper side, and a lighter, grayer shade underneath.
Capable of brief bursts of flight, which can be surprisingly fast and acrobatic. Her muscles will feel the strain afterwards, however, so she tries not to attempt flight unless it’s absolutely necessary.
Vaginal and urethral function is combined into a cloaca. This hole looks small on the outside (with a barely visible, clitoris-like bump towards the upper edge), but gets puffy and flushed when she’s aroused.
Behavioral
Her feathers only molt a few at a time, so the irritation is fortunately minimal. Still, she can’t help but feel uncomfortable and self-conscious when those few patchy pin feathers feel so wrong.
Has something of a nesting instinct, although she does her best to keep it suppressed. Needing a safe, isolated space that’s organized just right to feel comfortable is far too much of a weakness to leave out in the open, so she tries to ignore the urge.
Despite having some territorial instincts, she’s more likely to be unsettled by an “intruder’s” presence than get aggressive.
Feather-preening is an affectionate, soothing gesture for her— both receiving and doing it for others. However, she’s much too wary of being handled to let anyone but family or dear friends get close.
Has a natural urge to wander over a wide territory; staying cooped up in too small an area for too long leads to more docile behavior, but a worsened emotional state.
Senor Pink — Checkered Keelback
Physical
Snake tail in addition to human legs. Tail length is the same as his full height, and starts from the base of his spine (tailbone). The scales on it are a dull shade of tan, with a dark, checkered pattern, while the underside is paler, with banded markings.
Patches of scales scattered across the rest of his body, especially on his back, groin, stomach, and throat. The ones on his back have a checkered pattern like his tail, while the anterior patches are paler.
Forked tongue and sharper teeth than a normal human, with especially prominent canine teeth/fangs.
Poor eyesight, which he compensates for with a heightened sensitivity to smell, movement, and heat.
Hemipenes instead of a mammalian penis. A horizontal slit on his lower abdomen holds retracted phalluses (with a tapered shape) that emerge when aroused. No external/visible testicles.
Behavioral
His scales shed from time to time, and the process is stressful and annoying. Between the physical discomfort and emotional strain, it puts him in the kind of nasty mood where he’d rather avoid others altogether. Tends to rip the old skin off too early.
Cold-blooded; needs external warmth because his body can’t make much heat on its own. Drawn to heat sources... although he won’t let himself indulge when anyone else would see it.
Aggressive when threatened or cornered. He’s not venomous, but the threat of a bite is enough to put off potential threats.
Better grip strength than a human. His tail also has a reflex to coil around things (something of a self-comforting mechanism) when distressed, tense, or especially content.
Since his hybrid species is a water snake, he adapts well to aquatic conditions. He can hold his breath for much longer than a normal human, and has good speed and endurance in swimming.
Dellinger — Siamese Fighting Fish
Physical
Has dark, inky blue, frill-like fins extending from certain parts of his body; most notably along his spine, forearms, and the sides of his jaw. Although the fins look thin and delicate (and can be sensitive when touched), they’re surprisingly durable.
There are patches of scales across his body, the same inky blue shade as his fins. The patches concentrate thickest near his fins, and both the fins and scales tend to dry out without frequent hydration.
Functional gills as well as lungs; he can breathe with either option, although consciously switching between one or the other can end in some confusing, dangerous mistakes.
Webbing between his fingers and toes that aids swimming ability. Is overall much faster and more agile in the water than a normal human.
Genital slit instead of external penis and testes. The slit is positioned higher on the pelvis than a vagina, with scales covering a lot of the surrounding groin area, while the internal tissue is extremely soft, slick, and sensitive.
Behavioral
While he’s functional on land, regular time spent in some amount of water makes life much more comfortable. He can make do with long showers or a lukewarm bath to immerse himself in, but more frequent, lengthy chances to fully submerge are greatly appreciated.
Highly territorial, although he’s not entirely aware of the emotions behind it. Aggressive towards strangers (and anyone he dislikes) in ways that seem like aimless lashing out, but with a deeper cause.
Fins flare when he’s startled, angry, or otherwise trying to appear more intimidating. This also happens right before he gets violent.
Sensitive to temperature. Warmth is by far more comfortable for him, and he’ll get increasingly grouchy and listless if he’s too cold. Seeks out heat sources, especially when he’s trying to rest or sleep.
Tends to be cuddly and clingy with people he’s attached to... although he can just as suddenly decide that physical contact is NOT wanted.
Gladius — European Hedgehog
Physical
Small, rounded ears covered with dark gray-blue fur. Fairly side-set on his head, close to where a normal human’s ears would be. If his hair gets long/messy enough, they can all but disappear under the fluff.
Short, stubby nub of a tail at the base of his spine, covered with the same gray-blue fur as his ears. Usually hidden under clothes.
Starting near the base of his skull, he has a wide row of spines that reaches his lower back. The spines are pale at the tips and darker near the roots. While they look impressively pointy, they’re much blunter than they appear— prickly, but nowhere near enough to break skin.
His vision is poor, and generally better suited for dark nocturnal conditions. Bright light tends to give him nasty headaches (and well-lit places also feel much too exposed).
Partially sheathed penis that emerges when aroused. The shaft is fairly slender, and the glans is prominent, with a tapered tip.
Behavioral
Naturally nocturnal. Feels more awake and alert at night, and drowsiness if forced to stay up during the day makes him even more irritable and short-tempered than usual.
Nesting tendencies. Small, burrow-like spaces feel most comfortable to him, and he’ll instinctively try to find soft things to curl up with. Needs more rest during winter; although he doesn’t fully hibernate, cold weather makes him feel fatigued and lethargic.
Curls in on himself when threatened, at the same time that the spines on his back flare out. It doesn’t actually do much to protect him, but the reflex still kicks in when he’s especially startled or stressed.
Wary about being touched on his chest or stomach. Without protective spines, the skin there feels much more delicate, and prey-animal instincts mean he’ll usually flinch away from any too-sudden touch, or attempt to curl up and escape the contact.
Although he doesn’t produce many non-human noises, he despises the pathetic little squeak that does sometimes slip out.
Baby 5 — Australian Shepherd
Physical
Small-ish, triangular, black-furred ears that can almost blend in with her hair when it’s long. The ears bend and flop forward near the tips, but visibly perk up when she’s excited.
Long, naturally curled tail with the same black fur as her ears, save for white around the tip and a wide, white strip along the underside. There’s a crooked section near the middle, where the fur doesn’t grow right— she tried to dock her own tail at one point, but didn’t succeed.
Her tail is an excellent visual cue for her emotions... not that she’s very good at hiding them, anyway. Genuine happiness leads to the kind of over-excited tail-wagging that breaks things.
Sharper, sturdier teeth and nails than a normal human, with prominent canine teeth. Powerful bite force when she’s willing to use it.
Instead of monthly menstrual cycles, she has a roughly twice-a-year heat cycle with similar effects— bleeding, emotional mood swings, physical discomfort, increased libido, and so on.
Behavioral
High-energy, both physically and mentally. If she doesn’t have enough to do to keep her mind and body busy, her emotional state will quickly spiral. Herding instincts mean that she needs tasks to feel useful (and thus, sane), and prolonged boredom ends in outbursts.
Needs training and lots of interaction to feel secure. Highly eager to please, and thrives under praise and strict directions.
Although she usually tries to keep her inhuman vocalizations to a minimum, frustrated/distressed whines (or the happier, pleading variety) are still quite common. She’ll also growl if sufficiently angered.
If she gets attached to someone, the separation anxiety kicks in fast and bad. Being alone for any prolonged period of time sends her head spiraling to nasty places, and nervous, sometimes massively annoying, methods of overcompensating are a common result.
Keen senses of smell and hearing— while she’s not particularly territorial, too much sensory input is easily overwhelming.
Bellamy — Pit Bull Terrier
Physical
Small, triangular ears covered with a fine layer of golden blond fur. They were docked when he was younger, so they stand straight up instead of folding over forward. Even shortened, they’re expressive enough to easily (and often) give away his feelings.
Thin, yet sturdy tail with a tapered shape and a thicker base, covered in the same golden blond fur as his ears.
Sharp, strong teeth and nails. His canine teeth are notably pointed, and his nails are sturdy enough to be more or less dull, short claws. Powerful bite (and he WILL make use of it).
Thicker, coarser body hair than a normal human, especially around his lower limbs and the base of his tail.
Sheathed penis that emerges fully when aroused. The part that’s exposed only when erect is vivid, flushed red, and a thick knot swells near the base of the shaft during/after ejaculation.
Behavioral
Both extremely stubborn and strongly driven to please. When he perceives someone as an authority figure (particularly, one that he’s willing to obey), he’ll do almost anything to please or impress them. Very receptive to praise.
Can make a variety of inhuman noises, ranging from more threatening barks and snarls, to a distinctly pathetic, distressed whine.
Tail wags with strong emotions. This is virtually impossible to control, especially when it’s tied to happiness or excitement. Deeply embarrassed by this, especially if anyone points it out.
Easy to train. Likes having clear directions and expectations to follow (and rewards when he does well), no matter how much he tries to insist he “doesn’t need anyone’s orders”.
Highly loyal and protective towards anyone he gets attached to. “Guard dog” instincts make him somewhat clingy, and prone to lashing out when he feels like someone he cares about is being threatened. The aggressive side of this has gotten him in trouble before.

Liz, please tell us.
What do you think of Buggy the Clown?
Adorable manfailure~ <3
He's not one of my top favs, but Buggy is delightfully entertaining! And very cute!! He's a complex character psychologically, and the potential for terrorizing him is uhh... quite high. I enjoy that. :)

Liz I'm begging you write general relationship headcannons for Doffy. Please, I need them! For science!
Yayyy, more of the vile bird man~ >:3c I love digging into Doffy's mental state— he's a real mess in there, and the issues come spiraling out fast once I start to type...
(Previous Doflamingo/Reader post, for context)
. . .
• Clingy. And not exactly in a "normal" way. Doflamingo fluctuates between insisting on keeping you at his side like some kind of trophy piece, with no room for argument, and pestering you for attention in ways that can only be described as juvenile. He wants to get a rise out of you. He'll spoil you with riches and gifts whenever the mood strikes. He needs you next to him at every waking second, clinging childishly to your sleeve, or keeping a possessive arm around your waist. His behavior is unpredictable and hard to read, save for the fact that he's attached.
• His possessiveness treads the border of protective... and often skips to that other side. Doflamingo fears abandonment more than he can ever stomach to admit; fears being left behind, whether that means through death, betrayal, or simply walking away while his back is turned. Once he loves you, he's terrified of losing you, and all but smothers you with possessive affection in the hopes that if he watches closely enough, this time, if he keeps this love tied down at every edge, you won't slip away. If he gives you enough, material favors and overflowing emotions alike, surely he can ensure that this one good thing won't leave him.
• As Doflamingo's partner, within his Family, you have authority. If he's the king, the Young Master, then you're the queen, the head of the household right beside him. So long as you're a willing presence by his side, he expects the rest of the Family to treat you with the same deference and unquestioning adoration they give to him. He doesn't want anything to displease you (aside from his own playful annoyances, of course), so the rest of his crew have to swallow their pride and accept their new second-in-command. Doffy makes you part of the family in every way he can— you're worshipped just as much as he is, because doesn't the special treatment entice you to stay? No one else can give you the near-royal life he offers— and you love him for it, don't you?
• At the same time that he detests showing any kind of vulnerability around you, Doflamingo lets his fractured inner psyche slip a lot more often than he'll let himself think about. Whether it's jolting awake from a nightmare while tucked in bed beside you, clinging almost painfully tight through the lingering fear, or much-too-honest words escaping his constantly rambling mouth when he's stressed, wound tight at every seam, and you're the only one there to hear them— you'll see him in a state of emotional disarray more and more often as time goes on. The longer your relationship lasts, the harder it gets to hide his messy edges, and the more you see of the broken man underneath.

Can I request reader helping CP9 recover from the injuries they sustained from the raid on enies lobby? Your work is fantastic and these guys are my favorite angst-fuel
Yesss, they're excellent angst fuel indeed! >:3c Nothing like that "be useful or get thrown away" child soldier trauma! (I'm assuming that Reader would be looking after the whole group here, also.)
. . .
Lucci
He's a horrible patient— all nasty attitude and undisguised hatred of every second he's forced to spend under your care. Injured as badly as he is, weakened because of it, Lucci feels (and acts) like a cornered animal more often than not. He lost, and the last few moments of that devastating defeat won't stop flashing through his head. And yet, for all he insists that your caretaking is neither wanted nor necessary, the snappy protests are mostly just because he's violently uncomfortable with feeling so helpless and weak. Normally, he'd be left to lick his wounds in peace until he was functional for battle again; so much attention is unfamiliar, and even more disturbing in that he somehow doesn't hate it.
Kaku
He's somewhere between shocked that you're going out of your way to take care of them and so very grateful that you're bothering at all. As miserable and humiliating as this situation is, it would be a lot worse if they had to fend for themselves in such sorry shape. Kaku is horribly awkward about the whole scenario, alternating between looking prey-animal startled by your efforts to look after him, and stiff, overly polite thanks for even the smallest kindness offered to him. He also gets restless quickly without his usual outlets for energy, and that only makes the anxious, guilty feelings (he's being a burden by needing your care at all, he shouldn't need it—) fluttering around in his head harder to ignore.
Jabra
He insists he's perfectly fine, no matter how obvious it is that that's a flimsy lie at best. You've done enough by trying to look after him at all, and the half-pitying, half-tender affection makes Jabra very, very uncomfortable. He's a competent, lethal assassin, not some helpless pup that needs coddling just because he got injured on the job. Thus, he laughs off your fussing as best he can, and keeps trying to act "normal" whenever you can see— hiding his winces when the wrong movement pulls painfully at a still-healing wound, staying up and moving no matter how much the lingering exhaustion weighs him down, and so on. He'll heal soon enough, after all; there's no point in you worrying about him.
Kalifa
Outwardly, it looks like she's just sensible enough to know that she has to take it easy and recover, in order to be back on her feet as soon as possible. Internally, there's a lot more shame and self-doubt going on than you might assume; assassins aren't typically doted on like this, and especially not after what can only be classified as a devastating mission failure. When you're so gentle with her, so patient and caring while her beaten body is yet to heal, Kalifa doesn't know how to respond. She's quiet (almost cold, at times), save for the occasional, reflexive claim of "sexual harassment" that slips out when she's especially flustered. You're really going to take care of them all until they're healed...?
Blueno
He's visibly uncomfortable with too much caretaking, but grateful nonetheless that you're giving them all a chance to rest. Cipher Pol assassins aren't supposed to get second chances; he lost, so dying back on that burning island would have been perfectly justified. Your pity is difficult to bear; your apparent forgiveness even more so. You act like there was no failure at all, no shame weighing on their group for being weak enough to lose, and that part is so baffling that Blueno would rather avoid it altogether. He'll redirect your attention to the worse-off members of the group whenever possible, preferring to let his recovery pass in guilt-heavy solitude rather than face your persistent, unearned kindness.
Fukurou
He's not too badly injured, all things considered (especially looking at the state Lucci's in), but Fukurou likes the attention too much to really protest. As usual, it'll be non-stop chatter whenever you're in the room with him— which both spells bad things for the others' dignity, and gives you some invaluable details about just how badly they're hurt. Having someone look after him when he's hurt is unfamiliar (and honestly, kind of weird), but it's also a lot nicer than being put "off duty" to rot in a med ward until he's recovered enough to be back on the job. You do so much more than is necessary to make him functional again, and the feeling that you actually care is almost worth the brutal defeat that came before it.
Kumadori
Dramatic. You shouldn't have to go out of your way to take care of him like this! He must slit his stomach to atone! You'll have to convince him that further injury is the opposite of what you want so many times that it almost becomes routine... and yet, it's hard to get annoyed with him when he's already ashamed of everything that led up to this. Losing is unacceptable. Failure is never an option for Cipher Pol agents, and being patiently nursed back to health afterwards is practically salt in the wound. As soon as you'll allow it, Kumadori will be up and trying to make himself useful; anything he can do to repay you for your kindness. And of course, he's theatrically, excessively praising you for that kindness too.

Do you have any thoughts about the Charlotte family’ dynamics in general? (Or for any au that has caught your eye?)
Random headcanons, incoming! >:Dc
. . .
• There have been deaths in the family. Quite a few of them, even, and the sheer amount of multiple births sort of “hides” it. Most of them were accidental deaths at Linlin’s hands— during a hunger rampage, lifespan taken as a punishment for a crime of some kind, a genuine accident because Linlin is HUGE and often not fully aware of her strength, etc.
• Streusen is Perospero’s father, and no one knows it aside from himself and Linlin. The last thing that horrid little man would want is parental responsibility toward any of Linlin’s brood, and he fully intends to take the secret to his grave. Streusen feels no affection for his son, either— if anything, he’d rather forget about their connection altogether.
• Only the daughters are married off; sons are kept at home as soldiers/otherwise used for Linlin’s crew. The reason for this is that, with girls, Linlin can always tell that any grandbabies are part of her lineage. With boys, their wife could have been knocked up by someone else without her son knowing, it's just too “risky”. Fooling around outside of a Mom-arranged marriage is also forbidden— and that goes double for sons who could lose track of a pregnant fling (thus costing Linlin a grandbaby).
• All of the kids are SEVERELY undersocialized. Nearly the only people they interact with are family or homies (and less often, servants/crew), and it shows. Accustomed to their mother’s tyrannical rule, they all tend to be wary around authority figures and very, very afraid of doing anything “wrong”. The age span and sheer numbers amongst the siblings make their unit feel more like a small town than a normal family, and yet, one-on-one attention (especially from their mother) is disappointingly scarce. Working to “earn” Linlin’s time and favor is the unfortunate norm.
• On a similar note, Perospero has been more of a “parent” to his siblings than Linlin. As the eldest daughter, Compote also filled a substitute parent role quite often (especially in the early years), but she has much less of a neurotic parental streak than him. In part because of the massive age gap between himself and his youngest siblings, Perospero feels almost obligated to look after them. Their mother has never been safe to rely on or go to for help (when she’s even there, as opposed to out on the seas), so naturally, someone has to fill that role… right?

An intimacy sort of question - I was reading that Nnoitra post on arrancxr with the “I don’t care if it takes all night, you will submit" prompt, which is fabulous, by the way. But I started to ponder how big of a Venn diagram overlap there is between Kaidou and Nnoitra in regards to their 'violence is all I have known and anything else is foolish and not meant for me' approach?
Hmmm... well, I think the biggest difference is that Nnoitra's attitude toward violence is 1) an active source of misery for him and 2) actively self-imposed. Kaidou seems to be a lot less self-aware than that, and a lot less bothered by his approach to life.
Kaidou is one of the strong ones. In a world where strength rules, he's been on top from the very beginning. He doesn't think about how his time as a child soldier fucked him up. He hardly sees battle as a source of unhappiness at all. When he's drinking himself stupid just to feel something and has nothing to live for but the next conquest in his path, he doesn't make the connection that those things are abnormal, let alone preventable. He sees himself as following the natural steps toward power for someone with his strength, and it never occurs to him that things could have been different. He's a monster— a beast, a weapon, the strongest soldier—, so the way he lives through violence and war is only natural.
Nnoitra, meanwhile, is acutely aware that he's fucked up, and it haunts him. He knows that there are other ways to exist, but he actively rejects them because they're not meant for something like him. He's not happy like that in the slightest, but he doesn't deserve to be happy, in the first place. Because of what he is, the only hope he has is dying brutally in battle so at least he's not weak.
They both see violence as the only option for their existence, but while Nnoitra is consumed by despair because of it, Kaidou sees constant battle as a perfectly natural, even enjoyable part of life. (He's wrong about that, sure, but he doesn't know otherwise.)
In shorter, more humorous phrasing:

You know, I was wondering what your characterization of Doflamingo would be like and what it would also be like in a relationship with Reader, I've seen plenty of other characterizations of him, but I'm curious and want to see how you see him specifically :3
Hmmm... this certainly isn't the only interpretation I could come up with for Doflamingo (vile bird man contains multitudes), but a personal favorite idea of mine is Doffy wanting Reader involved in his little uhh... long-term family roleplay.
It's hilarious (and also just plain sad) to me that Doflamingo insists on his entire pirate crew calling him Young Master. However, decades spent fixated on cultivating the illusion of a stable, happy "family" shows that Doffy is deeply invested in the idea— which means that a genuine attachment to Reader might very well end in you being set up as the possibly less-than-willing newest addition to his desperate game of house. On the dom!Reader route (always my choice), you are now the new "Mommy/Daddy" (to the Young Master only), or "Master/Mistress of the household" (to everyone else)... even if it requires some coaxing to get you to accept the role.
In other words, I find the "desperate, delusional yandere" type perfect for Doflamingo. He's a domineering pest who expects you to play along with his every whim— but that might just mean "play the caretaker figure this miserable control freak needs to feel stable". Sure, he can manipulate/coerce/force your cooperation if he needs to, but playing along from the start gets you a spot in the Donquixote Family as Doffy's specialest mental security blanket. You'll never betray him, right? Or dare try to leave? He's got some nasty abandonment issues too, and his partner will definitely be seeing the worst of them— along with the kind of ugly, vulnerable moments he hasn't let anyone else witness since he was too young and freshly traumatized to contain it.
Overall, Reader gets a temperamental, control-freak manchild who fluctuates between acting like he has everything together, finding new and inventive ways to irritate you into giving him attention, and clinging viciously to a sense of comfort and security he hasn't dared hope for since his faith in the world first fell apart.

God I want to lovingly torture Caesar so bad. I need to make him the subject of all of my twisted science experimentation since he is the only one worthy of my genius. I want to fix him so I can rip him apart again and again
Ooooh, this is a fun prompt~ owo With Caesar's desperate ego, I think he'd eventually latch onto any source of "pride" he can get...
. . .
• At the start, he's miserable. Caesar is a terrible experimental subject to deal with— he's loud, whiny, throws a fit over any pain you put him through, and has such an obnoxious ego that his constant, self-absorbed complaining is bound to get on your nerves. Do you have any idea who you're dealing with? How dare you try to put a genius of his caliber through such torture! These protests and plenty more become all but background noise to your work, and it takes a while for his whining to settle down.
• A slow drip of praise really is the way to turn his attitude around, however. No matter how much he boasts about his intellect, Caesar is mentally fragile— with nothing else left to cling to, eventually, he'll start to find pride in being 'the best' even here. Especially if he's come to respect your ability as a scientist (not that he'll EVER admit that part out loud...), being told that he's the only one good enough to serve as your test subject is something he can cling to. Any reminder of his value is better than being left to spiral into insecurity and creeping self-doubt; if he's under enough stress, even such a pathetic purpose is better than none.
• Of course, even that (reluctant) cooperation doesn't make him any easier to deal with. Caear will still cry and complain whenever you handle him too roughly, demand constant praise for his role in your "cooperative" scientific developments, and give snarky, unwanted critique about your methods until he's too far out of his mind with pain, fatigue, or otherwise to keep running his mouth. Becoming dependent on your attention only makes him more annoying, since any disapproval or rejection (even if it's all in his head) now causes nastier tantrums meltdowns than ever.
• You chose him, didn't you? You said he was the best? You can't just cast him aside after that. Not now that he needs you.

Silly little Caesar headcanon based on the ambiguity of Clown/Crown for how his named is pronounced—
His name is (was?) actually "Crown", but a typo mishap in one of his earliest published academic works (when he was young and desperate and full of too much ego to let himself be ignored) meant he had to stick with "Clown" for anyone in the scientific community to recognize who he was. And there's no going back now.

thoughts on King? he's so hfdjkgljaklhg
i love him sm your honor
KING MY SPECIAL SPECIAL BOY!!!!
I love him too, anon. EXCELLENT character, 10/10, so deeply tragic and yet so very gorgeous. The only thing more compelling than his heart-wrenching, last-of-his-species backstory and desperate loyalty to the man he views as a savior is that he's absolutely beautiful.
As for more personal/headcanon-y thoughts...
King was (and kind of still is) the angriest, ANGSTIEST teenager ever. Which is honestly pretty fair, considering the whole "hunted down and held captive by the government" thing.
I loveeee the fan works I've seen that play up the "Lunarians have bird instincts" thing. Excellent xeno material there.
And those wings are too pretty NOT to be preened...
There was a particular fic I read (that's since been deleted from Ao3) that went with an intersex!Lunarians interpretation that was just, so fun. The idea stuck with me enough that I'll likely use it in my own writing too, should any smut happen~ :3c
Just, weird Lunarian biology/instincts in general tempt me so much. Bonus points for King having no idea what's happening half the time because there have never been other Lunarians around to explain (or at least, not that he has much memory of).
For some more character-based hcs, man, working side-by-side with one of the scientists who experimented on you as a child (Queen) has to be AWFULLY weird. It's pretty impressive that King tolerates him as well as he does, all things considered.
He's also EXTRA wary of Linlin because he dreads what ideas she'd get if she ever found out what species he is.
His relationship with Kaidou is super clingy and co-dependent. They're both the only person each other can trust in a LOT of ways, and the whole savior complex/fellow monster situation just makes it easier for two terribly lonely disaster men to get weird about each other.

So how do you feel about Captain Koby with a slightly older Pirate reader~? Forbidden love and lust and all the sexy drama with it?
Awwwww, poor Koby's gonna be going through some deep internal conflict here, huh~? ;3c
. . .
• At the same time that this relationship is by all definitions wrong... well, Koby has certainly made some less-than-wise decisions before. Especially when bizarrely charismatic pirates are involved... Koby can't quite shake the feelings of guilt over giving in to such forbidden lust (what kind of Marine is he, to be swayed so easily?), but once he's head-over-heels for you, there's no going back. He can't deny that he's attached to you— attached, and more.
• The relationship has to be a secret one. For the sake of his position (and your reputation), any interactions between you need to be either out of sight or have some convenient excuse. If that means that Captain Koby has developed a particularly persistent pirate rival who keeps trying to "capture" him, well, that's out of his control, isn't it? He feels bad for worrying his fellow Marines every time he spends a day or two "held captive" on your ship, but it's unfortunately the most practical method of getting time with you without having to worry about anyone seeing things they shouldn't.
• Even if his partner is a pirate, Koby is the same straightforward, sweet, good young man as ever. Once you're alone, with no reputations at stake, he's painfully earnest and affectionate— first-time puppy love at its finest. Having feelings for someone brings his anxious streak crashing back; manifesting as everything from worrying his strength might hurt you (no matter how powerful you are in your own right) to asking permission before so much as holding your hand. It's half sweet, and half pathetic— and Koby feels terribly out of his depth every time he ends up pinned to the nearest wall and kissed senseless. How can you resist teasing him a little, when he gets so adorably flustered every time?

Your hybrid blackbeard pirates post was really good, but you ended up forgetting Kuzan, their newest titanic pirate
Can we get a hybrid of him pretty please? He's my favorite of the bunch ☆
I was planning to include him in the Marines' Hybrid Au post, but that one has uhhh... been taking me a while to write. :`) Since you're so excited, though (and since the full post is fighting me still...), I'll give an early preview in the form of Kuzan's Hybrid Au info!
As usual for these info posts, warning for sliiiight nsfw~ ;3
. . .
Kuzan/Aokiji — Snowy Albatross
Physical
Has large, feathered wings with a massive wingspan; large even next to his already impressive height. The feathers are white, with bits of black around the tips and wing edges.
More patches of feathers scattered across his body (especially on his shoulders and upper back) have the same snowy-white coloring as the main ones.
He also has a short, white-feathered tail. It’s mostly feathers forming a blunt, square-ish shape, with only a small stump underneath.
He can maintain flight for longer than most bird hybrids (since his wings are meant for gliding/extended time in the air), but actually doing so still comes with the price of sore muscles afterward. His back and shoulders will suffer after too much time spent in the air.
Cloaca instead of external penis and testicles, with a small bump near the upper edge that resembles a glans in appearance and sensitivity.
Behavioral
The migratory, ever-moving nature of his hybrid species means that staying in one place for too long can leave him feeling restless and “trapped”. When he’s forced to be too stationary, his mood starts to plummet, leading to lethargy and irritable behavior.
Very sensitive to wind, temperature changes, and weather. Likes to be outside as often as possible, since being shut off from those things feels wrong.
Despite how visually impressive his wings are, he finds them more annoying than anything— both a nuisance to take care of, and constantly in his way when not in use.
Although he has some degree of nesting instinct in him, the urge doesn’t strike very often. Not particularly territorial, either.
His molts are “partial”, meaning that he only loses and regrows a few feathers at a time. There’s a pattern to it, with feathers falling out in a certain order each year. While this makes the whole process less awful, even a few pin feathers are still miserably uncomfortable.
