Isn't it weird how there are a bunch of unspoken rules for hero fics that don't apply to villain fics?

Like, if you decide to write Miss Militia as Mr. Militia, that's weird and bad and wrong, if Militia was actually trans he would have come out, everyone knows the PRT is accepting of trans people, blah blah blah. Same deal if you think she's transfemme; we'd already know, because the PRT is progressive and wouldn't make its prominent heroes hide potentially controversial elements of their identity, etc etc. And if Miss Militia is actually cis, it would be insulting to write her as anything else.

But when it's Skitter, open season I guess. She's a villain, so it's totally plausible that she'd have a PR agent keeping her in the closet or something. It's fine to speculate about about her gender identity by writing a fifty-thousand-word real-cape fanfic which uses "centipede" as a euphemism for "dick"! Ridiculous.

This double standard is frustrating, but at least it gives us a window into how cape fans think about edge cases. Look at the real-cape fanfics about Weaver, and see how many writers treat her/him like a villain instead of a hero.

Sitting here imagining the shit that would have gone down if Lisa had put together that Carol had an affair. Could you fucking imagine.
