You want some real legitimate advice about mental health? Stop being mean to yourself.

Like, when you wanna say mean shit about yourself either internally or externally, work to learn how to step back a moment and remind yourself that what you are doing is a form of self-harm and not a fair or legitimate judgement on you as a person, and furthermore is not productive to your survival or well-being.

Even if you fuck something up, you can resolve to do better in the future, you can tell yourself that you’re going to make this a learning experience, and even if you’ve made the same mistake 50 times already, telling yourself you’ll get it right someday if you just keep trying will always do you better than calling yourself an idiot and beating yourself up for not being able to get it right.

Take it from me, a lot of mental health shit is a product of your environment and personal history, and therefore you really don’t have the control over it that you need to get by without others’ help, but one thing you can have some control over is whether you’re going to be a friend to yourself or just another enemy, and if you want to survive, you’ve gotta strive to be in your own corner as best you can.

i just lost my job and i’m really struggling to stay afloat right now. i’m grieving my father’s death and a myriad of other things so i don’t know when i’ll be able to find work again. i could really use some help taking care of myself and if anyone feels comfortable doing that please feel free to send me any resources you have or sending some cash my way so that i’ll be able to feed myself and hopefully pay for therapy and grief counseling. i would seriously appreciate it.

A post i thought i would never make

And i wish i didn’t have to make it. But right now i need help.

Hello, my name is Charlie, i’m a young non-binary trans boy who lives in France, but i need to leave the country as soon as possible. My parents are physically and emotionally abusive, even more towards me since i came out in december. It is starting to be truly dangerous for me to stay here. First, my house is broken due to a flood and it can fall at any time on us.

But most importantly, i have been trying to kill myself 3 times in the past 3 months. I have depression and anxiety because of my abusive parents and they don’t want to let me take the right medication, they even made me see a therapist that was supposed to “help me with my transgender problem”.

Everything is planned, even a date. My girlfriend’s parents are ready to offer me a home but they live in Norway. The plane ticket is the only thing that i can’t get right now, but it’s urgent. Today it costs around 72€, but the prices get higher everyday so i have to buy it quickly.

Even further, they have the power to censor and regulate what we see online.  MORE  further, they’d even have the power to slow down competitors’ streaming speeds, like Netflix, to make their own services more appealing. THIS SHIT IS NOT RIGHT!!!!!

“I never learned my Navajo language and I was never inspired to learn it.  As I got older, I realized how valuable our language is to the livelihood of our Navajo Nation. ” -Dr. Shawna L. Begay

Our Navajo or Diné language is in danger of becoming extinct.  Help us create and develop the first Navajo-English educational media TV puppet show, “Diné Bí Ná’álkid Time” which means ‘The Navajo Movie Time.’  It will inspire and teach our youth basic language skills using media as a technology tool. Parents, grandparents, children and grandkids can learn to speak Navajo  fluently together within their own homes. Long-time friends and educators, Dr. Shawna L. Begay and Charmaine Jackson have teamed up to create this new TV pilot for an all-ages audience or for anyone who wants to learn the Navajo language.   With your support, it’ll be the first educational Navajo and English puppet show that will teach and preserve the Navajo language and culture through digital media.

After several years of extensive research on the Navajo Nation, Dr. Begay recently completed her PhD from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas with her doctorate thesis, ‘Developing A Navajo Media Guide: A Community Perspective.’ As project director, she quickly realized she was a pioneer on the topic.

“When I decided what topic to study I realized there existed very little research in Indigenous educational media, especially with our Navajo people,” stated Dr. Begay.  “As Navajo people, we have our own learning objectives and Navajo way of knowing is completely different for Euro-Western schooling.  I decided that I had to research and develop our own curriculum guide that is meant to teach Navajo through media.” Dr. Begay and Jackson, co-writers of the show, developed the first 3-puppet characters and plan for many more. The pilot features Nanabah-a young Navajo girl, Gáh (Rabbit) and Dlǫ̀ǫ̀ (Prairie Dog) who will go on endless adventures learning about language, gardening, the environment and the importance of family values. Nanabah is fluent in Navajo and likes to teach children about life on the reservation with her animal friends and special guests.  Children who want to learn Navajo will also be an important part of the show by interacting with Nanabah, her friends and storyline. Dr. Begay’s research concluded there exists very little research in the area of Indigenous educational media. Currently media is a very powerful tool that can be used to teach. She is cognizant of the digital age we live in and the opportunities to utilize media to revitalize the Navajo language.   “Star Wars and Finding Nemo,” dubbed in Navajo, was a great place to start and it has garnered national exposure of our language. However, we need a show based on our own Navajo learning principals our ancestors set out for us to learn and live by. I don’t think a non-Navajo, non-Native or non-Indigenous person can do that for us, nor should they.  We, as Navajo, need to produce this show ourselves, if we are to be truly sovereign,” added Dr. Begay. Both educators, Dr. Begay and Jackson, of Naalkid Productions have been talking about this educational language project for about the past four years and still have a long way to go to finance their dream. “With the support of Navajo TV Anchor Colton Shone, our team of Navajo artists, filmmakers, family and friends, this video pilot is a huge step forward,” said Jackson.  “Our journey has just begun and the big next step is finding financial support to create a whole new puppet TV series.” We aim to raise $50,000 with this project which will allow us to continue with pre-production and production aspects of making this digital media project become a reality.  We need your help to save our language by teaching Navajo to our future generations. I’m not one for discourse/drama or making many personal posts, but I think this is something that needs to be said.

This is mainly sparked from issues I’ve seen rise in the Arcana Fandom, but I have seen it in many others as well ( Voltron is a good example I’m sad to say ) of fandom becoming so engrossed in their own ideas that they may begin to ignore the actual official material. This is separate from ignoring canon because of bad writing or representation; that’s not what I’m talking about here.

Participating in fandom activities is a lot of fun. Art, writing, theories and headcanons are exciting and a good way to pass the time between seasons/updates/etc. However sometimes things can be taken too far, and I strongly remind fandoms of one thing:

Canon Characters Are Not Your Characters. They were created by someone else. They are someone else’s OC. Treat them with the same respect that you would give a tumblr artist or writer and their OCs. Have a bit of common decency before putting something out there for the public to see.

I’m not shaming anyone for something they have said or done. Think of this as sort of a PSA or advice post of sorts, to think for yourself first within a fandom based off of the material given rather than the false information tumblr tends to spew out. Fandom is only good in small, mature, and healthy doses. It saves the group as a whole from a lot of unnecessary conflict.

tldr; Don’t let tumblr be your first source for a characters information, and keep in mind that this character means as much to their creator as your OCs do to you.
