day 14 - reverse crush

Cozy in their tree's canopy, Adrien finished his ice cream and nodded towards the boy sitting on a bench and strumming a guitar. "10 out of 10, would date."

Ladybug squinted before her eyes grew wide with shock. "Isn't that your bandmate? Uhh...Luke. Right?"

"Luka," Adrien corrected. "And I said what I said."

"Isn't he dating your friend??" Ladybug squeaked, a scandalized blush burning her cheeks.

"Marinette is also a 10 out of 10, and I would also date her. Not seeing your point."

Adrien was still completely head over heels for Marinette, even after being turned down by her multiple times. But she was finally with the boy she loved, and he was determined not to ruin it for her.

Ladybug sympathizing and taking him to the park to ogle attractive people was helping. Honestly.

(Who was he kidding?)

"I...guess that makes sense," Ladybug muttered. She took the last bite of her own ice cream before admitting, "Marinette is pretty cute."

The memory of Ladybug hanging from her yoyo wire with Marinette starstuck in one of her arms popped into his head, and Adrien immediately banished it.

"But I prefer a kind heart over looks," she continued.

"Not exactly something you can spot up here," said Adrien, knocking against the branch they were perched on.

Ladybug shot him an exasperated look before sighing and leaning her head on his shoulder. "I guess not."

They sat there in silence, taking in the laughter of children playing, the excited barks of dogs, the wind blowing through the leaves. The summer sun was golden, its light warming his broken heart.

"You deserve better than Marinette," she said suddenly, and Adrien hummed in disagreement.

"And what about your mystery crush?" he asked.

Ladybug's smile was bitter. "They deserve better than my love too."

day 17 - aged up

finally a proper use of it’s not you, it’s my enemies from me while i continue plugging away at the ladrien june 2018 prompts lol

When Ladybug swung into her apartment, she froze.

Adrien was sleeping! On her couch!! With her cat on his lap!!!

Her loud squeak roused Adrien, who wiped at his bleary eyes. Her cat fled as he sat up, glasses falling perfectly from his forehead to the bridge of his nose, and it was completely and utterly unfair.

"Ladybug?" he asked, before yawning. Then he blinked as sleepiness gave way to confusion. "What are you doing here?"

It took everything Ladybug had not to laugh hysterically.

"O-oh? Sorry, sorry, wrong apartment, sorry for interrupting—"

Adrien's hand wrapped gently around her wrist as she tried to turn away, and Ladybug froze.

"This is my friend Marinette's place," he told her, thumb brushing against her veins, and she tried not to shiver. "I let myself in, but she's not here right now."

"I...seeeee," she said, hoping against hope that she sounded a little more coherent than her teenage self.

(She was over him, she was over him, she was over him—)

Adrien's cheeks flushed as his hand slid down, his fingers fitting perfectly in the space between hers.

"Ladybug...I miss you," he confessed, and Ladybug's stare snapped from their interlaced hands to his pleading eyes.

She swallowed the heart pounding in her throat and croaked, "You...do?"

"Of course I do," said Adrien, his sincerity a sledgehammer to her resolve. "Every day I think about you, how you're doing...if you're happy."

(SHE WAS NOT OVER HIM)

"I'm happy you're safe," she made herself say.

He sighed bitterly and stepped forward, lifting their joined hands to his lips.

"I'm tired of everyone keeping me safe. I just want to be happy...with you. Won't you let me?"

YES, her heart cried.

Instead, Ladybug dutifully slipped out of his grasp.

day 28 - the fall

The Prince of the Underworld, son of the God of the Dead, decided that the ideal keepsake to bring with him as he attempted to escape Hades...was a lucky charm bracelet.

The fall was easy, the beads fluttering around Adrien's wrist as he leapt from the courtyard window into Tartarus. What was harder was keeping his composure when he landed and glimpsed the awaiting message.

He retrieved a bottle of nectar as he approached, steadying his shaking hands when he presented it to the glowing, paradise pink orb.

"My lady," he began as always, because calling the goddess of good fortune 'Lady Ladybug' felt silly. "Please accept this token of my appreciation for your continued assistance and company. I've...come to enjoy finding your messages down here."

It was only when he made an offering to Olympus that anyone residing there seemed to hear him. Ladybug's symbol disappeared along with the nectar, replaced by the image of her holding it carefully.

"Oh," she breathed, and oh, if he could always hear her voice... "Th-that's...that's sweet of you, Adrien, you really don't have to keep giving me these."

Ladybug set the bottle down, a small, soft smile lighting the depths of her eyes, and Adrien absolutely needed to keeping giving these.

"I know the others on Olympus are all expecting to come live with us, but don't feel pressured to, alright?" she began, tugging at her hair. "If you want to stay in the mortal realm for a while, that's fine! But..let me know when you get to the surface? I..."

She paused, breathing out slowly, before she looked at him, unwavering and determined. "Prince Adrien, I hope the Fates will let us meet soon."

A longing, "I hope so too," escaped him as her image disappeared, taking his heart with her.

It goes with her fic, which is a Miraculous version of the scene in Sailor Moon where Usagi and Mamoru are trapped in an elevator with firey death on the way, and she has to transform to save their lives, revealing her identity.
