WIP Whenever

Got a soft tag from @whimsicalmeerkat forever ago but, well, not gonna lie. I've been distracted. First writing the story itself, and then just. Lets say RL has been hell and leave it at that.

However, I do like participating in these things, so here goes: From my Collabang fic: "A Kitsune's Absolution":

“This has to end. You’ve taken things too far. Too many people have been hurt already. I cannot allow it to go on…”

“It will end. When everyone’s paid for the wrongs done against you.”

“Why are you so fixated on that?”

“I am a nogitsune, you know this. But I don’t think you truly understand what that means.”

“You feed on pain, strife, chaos.”

“More than that, my purpose, my reason for being, is being a tool of vengeance. I exist to make others pay for their wrongs, their offenses. Things like wrong and right, they do not matter to me. I care not for good or evil. If someone does me offense, they will pay. And I will extend that same favor to those who summon me, who call on me to wreak vengeance when they cannot do so themselves.”

“I did not summon you.”

“Did you not? An argument could be made, considering your feelings at the time of your ill-advised sacrifice ... of the three spirits I touched during that awful ritual, I knew from the start you were the strongest of them all. I also knew that as dark as some of the thoughts of the other two might be, their desire to get even… it was nothing on your desire, your vengeance, your need for justice…”

Silence reigns for some very long, very intense seconds, before one of them (hard to tell who, exactly, as it’s said so quietly, almost sotto voce):

“That’s why we’re here…”

This whole episode is full of emotion. But this part, the reunion always touches me so much that I need to come back to it several times. So sorry in advance if I repeat myself in my posts.

Imagine how Dream felt as he headed to the New Inn. With the uncertainty if Hob would still be there despite being late. Perhaps with Hob's last words echoing in his mind.

"I'll tell you what, I'll be here in 100 years' time. If you're here then too, it'll be because we're friends."

Imagine, after the agonizing seconds looking for Hob, the relief of seeing that he was still there

Imagine then, how he must feel remembering that the last time he had met Hob's gaze, he had looked at him with such an expression and rejected his friendship.

Imagine the agonizing wait to see how he would be welcomed when Hob looked up at him.

Imagine, just imagine the relief of seeing the face light up with a smile.

Without judgment.

Without rejection.

Without reproach.

Devoid of any negative feelings.

Just a smile and a simple "You're late."

For the master of micro expressions that is Dream, this little chuckle is the equivalent of an explosion of joy and relief.

I'm probably rambling a lot but bear with me because I'm not done talking about them.

btw, since the spam comments fiasco, the new default comments setting on ao3 fics is only logged in users can comment. the default used to be anyone can comment. you have to actively allow anon comments now; don't forget to check it if you're like me and prefer to leave your fics totally unregulated 😅

i encourage you to go to your favourite writer's ao3 page and comment on an older fic, because i can assure you that it will make their day. It can mean so much to see your work doesn't disappear into the void to be never seen again after a day of people interacting with it. Just, if you have the time, go comment on an older work

Or, "I'm usually not a fan of/have never been interested in (this character/pairing/idea)" but I loved your story so much!".

And one that hasn't happened to me, but I was the reader in this particular scenario: "You're the whole reason I'm even in this fandom!"

I love AO3 notifications that are just, like, one person leaving kudos on all your work.

There are ships you consume. And then there are ships that consume you in a never-ending abyss of complete brainrot.

Also, if you see America as the whole freaking continent and not just the US (because America IS, in fact, the whole continent, not just one country!). Then the list would never end because: Prehispanic architecture! The pyramids, the ruins, some of them are so old people aren't even sure just how old exactly!

Tajin, Veracruz, México.

Tenochtitlan, Mexico City, Mexico.

Machu Picchu, Peru.

And I could go on, and on, and on. And these are the things more obvious. There's so much more!

So yeah, I agree that people shouldn't buy into the notion that there was nothing in the American Continent before the Europeans 'discovered' it. (Nor that what they brought was any better than what was already here...).

the main problem i have with america is that nothings old as hell there. i cant be so far away from a castle it damages my aura
