           telling his friends that they could go on without him. fleamont marched through the soon empty classroom towards his teacher. “  hello proffesor, my name is fleamont potter. i wonder if you have time to answer some questions? ”  

                   unlike what it seemed most teachers at the school his transfiguration was young, this was seemly the first year for both of them and that made fleamont extremely nervous. he wanted to become an auror, he couldn’t afford some clueless young man who had no prior experience and couldn’t teach a toad to swim. ———- not that fleamont had seen it in class today. the opposite actually, the teacher had been quite competent but fleamont need more to be reassured. transfiguration was already hard enough for him. so he need to know from the start how much he would have to do on his own. 

           “- ——  is it true that you have no previous experience teaching?”    

             albus swallows his amusement, adopting a similarly serious expression that the boy also wore. behind him, rarely far from him even now that they’ve settled into hogwarts, fawkes perches on the edge of the nearby chair, gazing at fleamont curiously, magnificent head tilting to one side.

at the question, albus clears his throat to keep from laughing, managing to keep his serious facade.  “ that’s, in fact, not true, mr. potter. i taught for three years before going on a sabbatical, which i’ve only now just returned from. if you’re worried about my ability to teach this class, i’d be more than happy to point in the direction of the articles i’ve written for transfiguration today.”

my hot take for the month: albus is a better alchemist than flamel because he understands this fundamental truth of alchemy, whereas flamel cares more about what he can get out of alchemy (such as immorality).

Honesty means neither shallowness nor immaturity. The drive and ability to cut to the heart of matters which backs up a Gryffindor’s directness makes them powerful in conflict and refreshing in friendship.
