His original plan for the day had been to ask his brother for access to more of the Yiling Patriarch’s notes, he would then hide away in one of Koi Tower’s many hidden recesses and work on deciphering them until his eyes burnt too much to continue.

Had three ideas for the same prompt (for a kink meme, prompt was made in 2020 so I’m not too fussed about rushing just to get it done fast), but i can’t decide which one to write first. So I’ll leave it up to the court of public opinion.

(Quick rundown of the basic ideas below cut — character names replaced with A and B)

(Character A is the same person in Options 1 and 2, but is someone else for option 3)

1) Character A is turned into a statue by a curse. Character B is a lonely kid who feels out of place in his family. B turns to A’s statue for comfort, not knowing about the curse. B comes to see A’s statue as an uncle figure, breaking the curse’s requirement of the statue being genuinely loved.

2) Character A turned into statue several hundred years ago by ritual gone wrong. Character B is a tortured artist trying to overcome artblock. B become’s enamoured with A’s statue and its ‘muse’, also not knowing the truth behind its existence. Ritual is canon-typically wishy-washy about what meets its conditions, and decides that B’s obsession with A’s statue and likeness counts as ‘genuine love’, and so the curse is broken.

3) Character A is cursed into becoming a statue at the point where they die in canon. Curse will only be broken if he’s reunited with his spiritual weapon, but the one who cursed him has hidden it away. Character B, the brother of the curse caster, accidentally stumbles across it, at which point a comedic-road-trip-esque journey occurs to reunite the blade with its master. Character B almost dies several times, and the weapon keeps causing and solving problems, delaying their return, but they get there! Character B gets seriously injured by Character C in the process, but Character A is awakened! Character C — either the curser or one of his most loyal allies — tries to pin the blame on Character B for stealing the blade, attempting to take the credit for the returning of the blade. They almost get skewered for their efforts, courtesy of the apparently sentient weapon. Character B tries to leave before anyone can try ‘repay the debt’, but underestimated the extent of his injuries and collapses, having to be nursed back to health.
