you didn't know the man that well, but he seemed to know you just fine. why didn't that raise any alarm bells?

Every morning you would wake with a cold sweat, your heart thumping loudly against your chest, your muscles taut as if you were ready to jump at any moment, and then there was the feeling of pressure that was pressed against your throat as if someone had deliberately pressed their cold hand down onto your jugular just to watch you struggle in your sleep.

It was a terrible feeling to wake up to, but thankfully your dear friend who you would frequently run into at the park was always quick to soothe your nerves.

“And you don’t remember what you were dreaming about,” his question was smooth as you sipped at your coffee, your body huddled close to him as you lamented about your recent troubles to the man.

“I don’t, Yomi! And it’s absolutely messing me up!”

You cried dramatically as you laid your head against his shoulder. His smile was sly as he patted your head.

“There, there.”

“Don’t patronize me,” you muttered.

“M not.”

You rolled your eyes as you brought your head off his shoulder and took another sip from your cup. Eyes boring into the flowers in front of you as you readjusted yourself on the bench.

You met Yomi a year ago right on this very park bench. Each morning before you work, you would come here to relax with either a cup of coffee, tea, or even a soda from time to time and one morning … he was there, sitting at your spot. You, the ever habitual creature that you were, didn’t want to find a new place, so you just sat right next to him without a care in the world. And surprisingly, he was the first to talk to you. Though, in the beginning it would be about mundane things like the weather forecast for the week or what your favorite color was. Thankfully, however, your conversations did get better.

“Maybe your stressed,” he reasoned, “it is tough running a bookstore all by yourself.”

You never told him about your job, but you didn’t catch it. Maybe a part of your brain was reasoning that it wouldn’t be a secret that you were the local bookstore owner. It was a small town after all. Instead, you nodded, agreeing with him, “it is pretty tough…”

“You should take a break,” he said it simply. His tone resolute as if telling you something that was so obvious.

“A break?”

Yomi smiled at you as he turned his head, his ruby red eyes glistening in the morning light of the sun. Everything he ever said to was always sounded resolute and had a sort of finality to it which you didn’t really mind. You liked having that sort of stability in your life.

“Yeah, you’re right, a break would be good. Who knows, maybe I’ll stop waking up in the way that I do.”

“How do you wake up?”

“Oh…, well, its like I wake up in this cold sweat and I’m like struggling to breathe and even my heart is thudding hard in my chest.”

“Anything else?”

“Mmm… I don’t think so…”

He reached for you then, one of his hands gently pressing against your throat. His fingers delicately pressing into the side of your jugular as he pressed down a little.

“A- ah, right, that to.”

You didn’t tell him about that either, but why would you question it? Maybe you did tell him and you simply forgot. Besides, his hand was warm. It was a stark contrast to the cold hand you were used to waking up to feeling.

He dropped his hand away from your throat, “as I said, you’re just stressed, a nice long break would do you some good.”

“But what will I do during my break,” you whined dramatically again, acting as if the world was giving you trouble in and of itself.

Yomi chuckled lightly, “we can get to know each other better, and you can meet my family.”

If you glorify dark content. I think this is an obvious one. I don't want to see glorification of dark content. All that I write does not glorify the actions within the content. I do not support the actions of the dark archetypes and themes I write, and I do not want to see someone painting it through rose-tinted lenses and trying to convince me it's good.

If you support problematic ships. Now, I don't want to be that one person who just awakened a sleeping giant who's about to slit my throat for saying this, but it does make me uncomfortable. I'm, for the most part, very accepting on just about any and every ship that's out there (within certain parameters), and I don't get into shipping dilemmas, because I do not want to be the next person with a gun to their head because I said "this guy should actually date [character name] instead of [other character]". However, problematic ships is where I draw my line, so please, if you support problematic ships, don't interact. This doesn't include "rare pairs", this includes ships that could be seen as genuinely problematic due to certain factors, be it a large age gap or something of the matter. If you aren't sure if you fall into this category, feel free to message me.

If you support racism, are homophobic, support pedophilia or are pedophilic. Self explanatory, I believe. If you find yourself to fit in one of these categories, see yourself out.

If you cannot differentiate fiction from reality. I don't know what is it with people as of late, but some readers I've seen around baffle me with how they react to dark content. It's a great bother to deal with people who make assumptions about the author who writes dark content and if they cannot differentiate fiction from reality. If you find yourself to be one of those people, this is your cue to leave and walk out the door.

If you are only coming to read and then complain. What's the point of reading everything I have only to then hate? You must be dedicated to hating on others' work if you simply sit down to scroll through over 1,000 words just to hate right after.
