Hey just wanted to tell you that I’m the anon that (poorly) described Stranger Than Larry Fiction in a lost and found the other day. I’m so glad that someone pointed me in the right direction. It’s even lovelier than I remembered.
AND THEN I went through the rest of your works and realized I’ve also read Stardust In Our Souls which absolutely wrecked me - I’m a massive Practical Magic/Alice Hoffman fan and what you wrote was just… gut wrenching and beautiful.
So yeah. You’re basically awesome.
Hi anon! Wow! I don’t get a whole lot of these so I never really know how to respond, but I’m unbelievably grateful when someone such as yourself takes the time to compliment and encourage me. I’m so glad someone could help you find STLF and that it held up for your re-read!
Regarding Stardust, I put a lot of myself in there and felt like she brought me a lot of growth as a writer, so she’s incredibly special to me.
All that to say, your kind words are very appreciated by this nobody writing silly love stories on the internet, my heart is warmed, and I’m truly thankful for you. 🩷

Why do you tag one direction as #gay pirates?

I just realised why low engagement on the fics upsets us fic writers so much. It's not I needed the attention and I didn't get so I'm upset. A part of it is because we want acknowledgement for our work, but after I updated a chapter a few days ago, and seeing no response from the readers, it feels like I wanted to celebrate the story we love and nobody else showed up. It's a lot like organising a party and hoping people will come, but you're the only one who was there and then you go home, feeling disappointed and friendless. It is an extension of wanting to be acknowledged. And maybe something else too. I don't know if someone else feels the same.
That about sums it up! When things like that happen, I’d suggest finding a local way to celebrate with yourself- go for a walk, get some ice cream, spend time with a friend, ect

no one had us for the 1D anniversary every year like liam had us. that man would set up an entire day, make sure his internet connection was strong, crack his back like a glow stick, and get to work like he had a 2 hour deadline every year on july 23rd. and i miss his presence on this day so dearly.

New Rec Submission Category: Play AUs!
By popular demand, the Based On Bonanza continues! Y'all voted for more, so Play AUs is a go! Until the list posts on Friday, August 1st, you can submit HERE your fave AUs based on Broadway musicals, Shakespearean comedies (or tragedies if you're a glutton for angst)(or histories if you're a NERD)(as a self-identified nerd I say that with the utmost love), or based on any other theatrical play you know! To be clear, this category is for AUs based on the story of the play, NOT for AUs where the characters are acting in a play -- unless the plot of the fic also follows the plot of that play or a different play; we welcome plays-within-plays!
Now I'm thinking about doing actor AUs soon because oh man am I a sucker for those how have I not done that category yet
I'm gonna be honest with y'all, I'm still on the fence about video game AUs -- y'all voted for it, but I'm just worried that there may not be enough meat for a very full fic rec. I think there is definitely potential for those stories, but I don't know of very many offhand. We shall see (and feel free to yell at me if there are video game AUs you're dying to rec, or if you just want the rule of democracy)(but please yell nicely I'm fragile).

All of my work to date (1,300,000+ words) has been scraped and added to a dataset shared in multiple places online for the purpose of training Generative AI. If you write fanfic, yours probably has too.
It's years of work—countless hours—countless body aches, missed meals and lost sleep. All of it, for free. For joy, for the love of it. For your love of it—and someone felt entitled to take that and use it for their own personal gain. For profit.
As a writer, it's hard not to be angry about that. I do however, think it's important to highlight this:
Generative AI will never replace us.
AI can't make you feel what I make you feel—what any other writer on earth can make you feel—because real emotion, real connection and real storytelling comes from the heart and it doesn't have one.
AI has never felt hopeless, it's never felt alone, or burdened, or in love, or so ecstatically happy it could cry. It doesn't know grief, it doesn't know joy, it knows simple binary code—zeros and ones, and that's all.
The joy of literature is in connection and in our humanity, and call me sentimental, but that is something that cannot be taught.

i think on AO3, instead of just kudos, you should have the option to send the fic writer a little smooch. a little kiss of encouragement to the forehead.
