miss independent || s.coups
↪ "miss independent, that's why i love her~" in which a girl who has always done things herself meets a guy she can be soft with.
pairing: non!idol seungcheol x oc
genre: fluff
A/N: Requested by my friend. Do note that most of the content are not real/accurate because this is an AU (Alternate Universe).

Rianna had always been the type to do things on her own. She always gave the "I don't need a man" vibes. She never waited for anyone to open doors for her, never asked for help carrying heavy bags of grocceries, always did things for others herself, and just never let herself rely on anyone in any shape or form.
And then came Choi Seungcheol.
She met him at a small cafe near her apartment while waiting for her friend so they could study together. It was the kind of place she liked because it was quiet and unassuming. She had been balancing her coffee in one hand and her laptop in the other when someone had reached out and steadied her cup before it could spill.
"Careful there," a warm deep voice said behind her as she looked up to find a deep brown eyed boy with an easy, knowing smile plastered on his face. "Wouldn't want to waste a good cup of coffee."
She scoffed lightly, setting her laptop down on her table. "I had it under control."
"Of course you did," he chuckled, raising his hands in surrender. "Just didn't want your day to start with a disaster."
She meant to brush him off, but something about his presence was...steady. Unrushed. Confident without being overbearing. He ended up sitting at the table across from hers, and before she knew it she had completely forgotten about the fact that she was still waiting for her friend and the two of them were talking. She learned his name was Seungcheol, he lived a few blocks away from her apartment, they went to the same university but he was a year younger and in a different department, and he also had a habit of showing up at the cafe around the same time she did. How did she not notice until now.
Slowly, she let him in.
It started with small things. He'd walk her home if they left the cafe at the same time. He'd bring her an extra pastry when he noticed she skipped breakfast. He'd tease her gently when she insisted she didn't need help carrying her books, but still reached out to take them from her.
"You know you're allowed to let someone else take care of you?" he said one evening as they sat across each other in the university's library.
Rianna looked up from her book at him, raising a brow. "I take care of myself just fine though."
"I know," he agreed easily. "That's one of the things I admire about you. But strength doesn't mean you have to do everything alone."
She didn't respond right away. No one had ever put it like that before. She had spent so much time proving that she could stand on her own that she never considered what it would feel like to have someone standing beside her. Not because they thought she was weak, but because they wanted to.
So, she let herself lean more towards him.
She let him pull her into a hug when she was exhausted from a long day. She let him open the door for her before she could even lift her arm up to grab the handle. She let him hold the heavier grocery bags; while still insisting that he should at least still let her carry some of the lighter ones. She let him hold her hand without overthinking what it meant. She let him see her when she wasn't polished and in control-- when she was just Rianna, no armor, no walls.
And he never had once made her feel like she was having to give up a part of herself. If anything, he made her feel stronger.
One night, as they stood outside her apartment, she turned to him and said softly, "I don't think I've ever let anyone in like this before."
Seungcheol smiled, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "Then I guess I'm lucky to be the first."
She wasn't sure when it happened, but she slowly realized something undeniable: with him, she didn't have to be Miss Independent all the time.
She could just be his.
Their relationship grew in ways she never expected. One weekend, after an especially stressful work week, she found herself curled up on his couch, wrapepd in one of his oversized hoodies while he played with her fingers absentmindedly.
"You always push yourself so hard," he murmured pouting his lips slightly, watching her with quiet affection. "Let me take care of you sometimes. I told you, you don't have to carry the whole world on your shoulders."
She exhaled, sinking further into his warmt. "I don't know how to let go. It's...hard."
"I know," he said, pressing a soft kiss to her temple. "But I'm not going anywhere. So whenever you're ready, I'll be here."
And slowly, she truly learned.
She learned that love wasn't about losing herself, but about finding someone who saw her, truly saw her, and stayed anyway. She learned that leaning on someone didn't mean she was weak but more so it meant that she had someone other than her best friend that she could trust enough to share the weight.
One evenning, after she had ap articulary rough day, she walked into his apartment and sighed heavily, kicking off her shoes.
Without a word, Cheol opened up his arms, and she stepped into them without hesitation.
He didn't ask questions, didn't push her to talk. He just held her, his hand smoothing over her hair, his heartbeat steady beneath her ear.
"I've got you," he whispered.
And for the first time in her life, she truly believed it.

[4:21 PM]
You didn't expect to see him here.
Not in this museum, not in this city, and definetely not standing in front of the same painting you were just admiring.
But there he was -- Xu Minghao.
His posture is relaxed, hands tucked into the pockets of his coat, head tilted slightly as he studies the brushstrokes on the painting. The soft afternoon light filters through the high windows, casting a glow on his face, and for a moment, it almost feels like you've stepped back in time.
Like you're still the person who used to stand beside him, listening to him talk about composition and color theory, watching the way his eyes lit up when he found a piece that spoke to him.
Your heart stumbles over itself as you debate whether to leave before he notices you, but it's already too late. Just as you were about to walk away, he turns around and your eyes meet; both of you looking like two deers in the headlights.
After a few seconds, you both snap out of it and Hao looks at you, "I thought you didn't like abstract art." His voice comes, smooth and quiet (with a hint of annoyance?), just loud enough to reach you.
You inhale sharply, your hands turning into tight fists, forcing yourself to meet his gaze properly. He's still the same--sharp features, thoughtful eyes--but there's something different now. A significant distance.
"I never said that," you reply, keeping your tone even. "I just never understood it the way you did."
Minghao hums, turning back to the painting. "And now?"
You hesitate, glancing at the canvas. Bold strokes of red and black clash against muted grays, chaotic but intentional. It reminds you of something--of the way you and him had once been. Passionate, intense, but never quite able to find the right balance.
"... I think I get it now."
He smiles at that, a small, knowing curve of his lips. "Took you long enough."
You roll your eyes, but there's no real bite to it. Just a lignering familiarity, an old rhythm neither of you has quite forgotten.
Silence stretches between you, filled with unspoken words and memories you're both careful not to touch. You could leave now. Walk away, pretend this was nothing more than an accidental meeting.
But then he shifts slightly, his voice softer when he asks, "Do you want to walk around together?"
And against your better judgement, you say, "Sure, why not."
For now, you can pretend that the distance between you is just space--not something permanent.

[7:55 PM]
The backstage area is buzzing with energy as DK paces back and forth, his heart pounding with excitement. This is it -- his big time musical debut. He's been talking about this day for months, hyping it up to you, his best friend (and maybe the actual love of his life), the one person he's been counting on to be there in the audience for him. He can already picture your smile, your enthusiastic thumbs-up from your seat near the front, and the way you always cheer him on louder than anyone else.
The crew members are adjusting costumes, finalizing lighting cues, and giving last-minute instructions. But DK's mind is solely focused on you. He opens up the curtain a little bit from the side to see that the spot he had asked to be reserved for you was still empty before he checks his phone for the hundreth time, but there are no messages from you, no word of any delays. It's almost showtime.
He runs his hands through his hair, trying to calm his nerves, but a part of him is getting restless. He knows you wouldn't miss this for the world. So why hasn't she texted?
"DK, you're up in five!" A staff member calls out, breaking him from his thoughts. His stomach flips.
The curtains are about to rise, and as he taks his first step toward the stage, he glances toward the audience one last time. His eyes scan the crowd eagerly, searching for your familar face, the one he knows like the back of his hand. But as the spotlight hits him and the buzz of the audience fades, he doesn't see you.
His heart skips a beat. Panic bubbles up inside him. Where are you? He swallows hard, trying to focus, but all he can feel is the weight of the absence.
The countdown begins, and his cue is fast approaching. He stands backstage, frozen for a moment, his mind racing. This performance is everything he's worked for, but his thoughts keep going back to you -- where could you be?
Meanwhile, on the other side of the city you're glancing at your watch as you sprint down the crowded street, panting from the run to the subway station. "I'm going to miss it," you mutter to yourself, panic creeping up. The message you received from DK's team said the show would start in a few minutes, but you're still miles away.
You try to calm your racing heart, but the anxiety only grows as the minutes slip by. This can't be happening. You've been planning this night for so long, hyping DK up for weeks about how you'd be there, cheering him on in the crowd. And no here you are, racing against time and every possible obstacle.
At the subway station, you rush to tap your transit card, but of course the machine denies you entry and you have to get someone to help you. By the time you get to the platform, the train had just left and the next one would take another few minutes. You're pacing back and forth, muttering under your breath.
The subway finally arrives, but as the doors open, they're packed -- so packed. You let you a big sigh before you push your way in, trying to make room, butt he train purches forward just as you're about to reach the center. You nearly stumble as the doors close, trapping you with a bunch of strangers This is hopeless.
You check the time on your phone again -- 7:58 PM. DK's show starts in a few minutes, and you're still so far away. Your heart sinks further.
As 8:00 PM rolls around, the spotlight shines bright on him as the music swells, and DK steps onto the stage, but something feels off. His mind keeps flashing back to the empty seat he thought would be filled with your face. He forces a smile, determined to give the performance of a lifetime, but there's al ingering unease inside.
He gets lost in the performance, his training taking over, his body moving through the steps almost mechanically. But no matter how hard he focuses on the show, his thoughts keep drifting back to you.
A few minutes after the show had already started, you stumble out of the subway station and look around, your eyes frantically scanning the streets. You don't even care about the chaos around you; you just need to get to the venue. Your legs ache from all the running and climbing up stairs, but you push through it, weaving between people as you get closer and closer.
Finally, you burst through the doors of the theater and the usher glances at you, raising an eyebrow at your disheveled state. But you barely register the judgnet, your eyes locking on the stage where DK is performing.
You rush to your seat, apologizing frantically as you pass over people, heart also racing from the sprint, and in the middle of his number, you lock eyes with him almost tripping into your seat. His expression softens when he notices you, and in that moment, everything else fades. You smile at him and give him a small thumbs up, and he softly smiles back at you.
Meanwhile from DK's perspective, the sight of you gives him the boost he needs, and suddenly, all the nervousness, all the doubt, melts away. He grins, his heart swelling with relief and joy. The show can go on now -- because you're here.

[8:26 pm]
Dino was sat across the table from you at your favorite Italian restaurant, an empty basket that once held the appetizer breads in earlier before it was wiped out during an awkward period of silence between the two of you. This was the same place that you two had been coming to for years, but tonight, it felt different.
Because it was a date.
A few weeks earlier Dino had finally gotten up the courage to ask you out on a date after asking to "hang out" without your other mutual friends because he was too nervous to say that he wanted it to be a date. At first you had thought he was joking and the others had put him up to it, but when you noticed that he didn't laugh nor smile but looked straight at you for an answer... you knew he was serious.
It took you about a week after that to tell him that you accepted his offer to take you on a date and now here the two of you were, sitting down across each other like you had always done before.
You shifted in your seat, watching as Dino poked one of the meatballs with his fork only to not pick it up and eat the entire thing in one bite like he usually did; but instead he just kept looking at it because he was too nervous to look up at you. Normally right now he would be teasing you, or dramitcally complaining that you had gotten more noodles with your plate than he did. But tonight, he was... nervous?
"Okay, I can't take this anymore," you blurted out. "You're acting weird."
Dino tensed up a little in his seat and looked up, startled. "I am not."
"You are. You haven't looked at me or said more than a few words ever since we got here. They gave me more noodles with my plate of spaghetti again and you didn't even try to fight how unfair it is for you."
Dino let out a big sigh before leaning back and hiding his face with his hands. "I don't know what I'm doing! Like do I treat this like our normal hangouts or like a real date? But also, what if it's too date-like and weird? Or not date-like enough and-"
You let out a small laugh, the tension cracking just a little. "Channie. It's literally just us. Like always."
He tensed up and his cheeks started burning up when you had called him by the nickname he only had ever let you call him by, before removing his hands from his face and looking up at you. "Yeah. Us. But.... us, dating."
You grinned, leaning across the table. "Then let's make it official." You dramatically extended your pinky. "No more weirdness. We just keep being us, but with more kissing."
The blood in his cheeks had rushed to his ears as well and you had let out a small laugh when you noticed his entire face had completely gone red.
Dino sat up straighter in his seat and hooked his pinky around yours a few seconds later. "Deal."
"Good," you said as you gave his a soft reassuring smile and watched as his shoulders had relaxed a little bit.
You continued your dinner with conversations about how your day had gone and other plans you both had with each other moving forward. And when the bill came, both of you just stared at each other for a moment waiting for the other to grab it until you snorted and gently shoved it over towards Dino. "You asked me out, so you're paying."

booseoksoon definitely would end up in squid games because they got scammed. i fear that it was dk who got scammed first but before he realized he got scammed he told hoshi about it and hoshi was like okay bet let's go while putting up some tiger signs and signing the papers dk gave to him without reading through it. and then it was seoksoon who basically scammed seungkwan. even though he didn't really wanna give him money to his hyungs he couldn't stand their constant begging and pleading for him to join them in this new "money-making" thing dk got dragged into in the first place so he was just like okay fine whatever and then two weeks later he sees on the news that the ceo of the "company" was arrested for scamming more than 1,000 people. before seungkwan could lay a hand on seoksoon the recruiter gives them a card while they were arguing with each other in the middle of an empty playground.
#seventeen#kpop#seungkwan#dk#hoshi#i fear somehow mingyu or dino might end up getting scammed because of seoksoon too#plot twist jeonghan was the one who convinced dk to join#bc he knew it was a scam and it was either dk or hoshi who would be gulible enough to be sacrificed

IM SCREAMING AKDHAKSJKS "SO CAN I UPGRADE FROM 'BUDDY' TO 'BOYFRIEND'" AKDHAKSJSKKS
✏️ scared freshmen chan x reader.
prompt: "helping a scared freshman despite also being a scared freshman." ✶ part of my svt university milestone event
⤿ fluff, cute & clingy!chan, slice-of-life. more content under the cut. ♡⸝⸝ prompt from @wollycobbl3-blr!
dino's declassified uni survival guide .ᐟ
survival guide to: making friends
attend the freshman year orientation event, no matter how lame you think it may be. sit through the whole thing. make small talk with your seatmate. when they assign you a 'buddy', jump at the chance of morally obligated friendship.
fuck trying to be cool and chill. 'be yourself' is painfully cliche advice, but they were on to something. what's the point of trying to act nonchalant or putting your best foot forward? be yourself, and you'll find the people who can appreciate that.
go to the school events. recruitment week? check. pep rally? check. going alone is alright. going with your orientation-sanctioned friend is preferable. the two of you can sit through the whole thing judging other students and making comments about the performances. maybe you can make more friends by chatting up the other students around you, but, honestly? each other is plenty fine.
survival guide to: getting around
have a copy of the school map saved on your phone. keep it in your favorites folder. that way, you don't have to stop at those blown-up maps at every corner or so.
test out the advice of your peers. sometimes, their advice is just a little more reliable— they're coming from places of experience, after all. take, for example, the recommendations from your orientation buddy. take their suggestions to heart. the cafeteria they think is best, the coffee order they swear by. very serious business.
you'll eventually get a little more familiar with the ins and outs of campus. you'll carve out your own spaces and make your own set of friends. if some people eventually fall out with you, that's fine. if you still take a wrong turn every so often, that's fine, too. keep in touch with the people that you really do like. and don't panic about getting lost. sometimes, taking the wrong turn can lead to some pretty exciting stuff.
survival guide to: ... falling in love?
the turn of feeling something for your first friend at uni isn't exactly what i was referring to, but it is what it is. my initial advice still stands: come as you are. if you've always been a little annoying, if you don't know how to shut up and you're shameless in your affections, then keep that up. why be someone who you're not? what if they fall in love with that charade instead of who you really are?
some differences may be warranted, especially if you want to progress the relationship further. friends to lovers is a little complicated; the lines, tending to blur. flirt. or: attempt to flirt. remind them of how attractive you are. find ways to be around them, whether it's heading out for a beer or 'running' into them after their last class of the day. gifts are okay, but don't overdo it. maybe find some occasion for it, in case they ask why.
it's terrifying. being a freshman. making friends. falling in love [with a friend]. and yet i keep going back to yet another cliché: just because you feel fear, doesn't mean you can't do it. do it afraid. do it scared shitless. walk them home. give them the flowers. package the confession in a joke, if you must, but confess. put your heart in their hands and trust that it will be safe, there. that the gamble will pay off. that you— maybe, just maybe— will be loved right back.
survival guide to: dating
tba. i'm still figuring this one out. :-)
written by lee chan (2024).
