I am finally slowly working on finishing the campaign (I was in an opera that ate up my time and energy — even on the long-ass drive to rehearsal I was listening to recordings and practice tracks, so no podcasts for a ehile) and I just want to say how awesome and well-earned that moment where Slake crashes out was. I love how you took a running joke like that and actually explored the ramifications and turned it into something serious that they, as a group, had to explore. it works really well for the friendship theme of the podcast, bc sometimes you can rly hurt someone when you’re just messing around and that has real consequences, and real friends can work through that together and choose to grow and change and stop doing the things that are hurting their friend. and it was also just really cathartic and well-earned. it was a really good and well-done surprise, bc I was definitely expecting ‘Slake caught in the AOE’ to just be a running joke for the rest of the podcast and never be taken that seriously. but it turns out Errol (sp?) was holding onto that one and really considering its impact on Slake, and they chose their moment so perfectly. and that’s kind of the beauty of RP-based storytelling done well, bc there is always one person whose sole/primary focus is to consider the perspective of one single character, and it allows for some incredible depth. and you’re never going to get these moments that turn up a lot in movies and TV (especially, but not exclusively, with female characters — most often with romance but again, not always) where it feels like no one bothered to consider this character’s perspective and it makes the whole thing feel less real bc you just can’t imagine what could possibly be going on inside their head that would make their choices make sense.

anyway. it’s fantastic. thank you so much for all the hard work you’ve put into this incredible podcast. i’m going to miss it so much when I finish listening, but that’s just the bittersweet aspect of finishing a really good story ❤️

AW GEEZ, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! 💚 Congrats on your Opera, dang! Yeah, we all kind of discussed Slake having a moment like that for awhile, I wanted their character arc to involve becoming more willing to stand up for themself and not be afraid to express their anger. It's something I have really struggled with in real life and Slake helped me think about that and explore it. I still have to fight my people-pleasing nature at times but I think it's something that is really worth doing! And it's important to trust your friends enough that you can know it's okay to get mad at each other sometimes! But yeah, it can also be a tricky needle to thread trying to balance the tone of comedy and trying to have emotional moments. But I feel really good about what happens when we all collaborate on a story and build it together. 💛 Glad you enjoyed it! - Errol

Summary: Antone has heard tell of simpletons who fall into relationships without even realizing it, and have to be told they're dating a person. They, clearly, would never be so foolish. (And if they were, well, it was two people. That would trip anyone up, especially if said people were Ainsley and The Gap.) Warnings: none! Wordcount: 316

"So, are we, like... dating?"

"God, no!" Ainsley said immediately. They seemed disgusted by the idea. Antone tried to keep their expression even, fighting hard not to frown as their mood soured.

"Oh."

"I'm way too cool to ever bother with dating."

Well.

That seemed a bit less personal than Antone had taken it. Maybe this particular piece of the world didn't revolve around him, every now and then.

"The Gap is too, right, Gap?"

"You're so right, Ainsley!"

"And, like, our bond is way deeper than marriage, anyway, so I don't know why you'd want to bother with dating. I mean—" The Gap shot them a disapproving look "—I guess, if you wanted to, like, date someone else, like, whatever, but like, we don't bother with that romantic nonsense. So..."

Antone huffed, trying to rapidly sort his feelings on this. It was hard not to feel rejected, even with the declaration of their bond being "deeper than marriage" (they kept saying things like that, the both of them; Antone had no idea what to make of it). But... Antone didn't really want to date either of them? Some things about being in a relationship with them did sound nice, in a way Antone wouldn't admit on pain of death. But romance? With Ainsley?? and/or The Gap?? would just be weird.

"Very well," they settled on responding. He pointed his nose in the air, adding, "No one meets my romantic standards anyway, certainly not mere peasants." Definitely not these strange little halflings that had coerced him into friendship and that they found themself inexplicably fond of.

Ainsley smirked. The Gap threw up their fists, cheering like they had won something. Antone bit back a smile at their antics.

Even if they weren't dating, he was absolutely stuck with these peasants. And they were having a hard time remembering why they ever hadn't wanted to be.

In about 10 days is Heroes Dutch Comic Con. My best friend asked me to go with him, and I couldn't say no. I have been working on a cosplay, and probably no one will recognize the character, but hey, I couldn't go not dressed up as Falen as a thank you to the Larks for their amazing podcast <3

Yes, I may have used inspiration from Juniper's design on the legendlark website because it was quite hard for me to understand what Falen looked like.
