Rant below the cut.

One month later and I'm still miffed about the lazy way they write off business. Will Ferrell couldn't be here for it? You can't fit business into the plot? Then at least write him off in character, even without lines if you have to. The man upstairs is busy (no pun intended), and can't possibly supervise his kids all the time. But he would be irresponsible to think an eight year old can look after his toddler sister and make sure she doesn't get hurt. Trusting Finn with his Legos was a struggle enough! How're we supposed to think this man just said "ok Finn since you haven't destroyed my huge collection of Lego worlds, I'm gonna make you Bianca's babysitter thx bye" and just...leaves? Both he and Business are control freaks by nature, and even if he's working on that, he would never do such a 180 in the span of a few minutes-- and no, it's not the same as the Secret Weapon scene. THAT had a good reason behind it. It makes sense to have Business not be the president anymore, since the man upstairs relinquished complete control of his Legos, but the sequel managed to forsake the entire character arc Business had-- the entire thing the first movie was built upon-- and treat him like a big joke.

That last sentence explains why I'm so upset about this. It's not simply because Business was one of my favorite character of the first movie. It's because he was a crucial character to the first movie, and his journey from bad guy to good guy was one of the most important parts of the plot. He was just as important as all the other characters, so he deserves as much respect while being written. 

You know how I would have written that aspect, and the events which still could lead to Apocalypse-burg? The man upstairs stays with his kids as long as Bianca needs supervision, and when he's not home the Mom watches them; this translates to Business running interference between the citizens of bricksburg and the aliens. This could go on for maybe a year or two, until Bianca is old enough not to worry about and Finn is old enough to still watch over her anyway; in effect, Business goes off to retire or something, and the animosity between siblings starts to stew again, leading to the sequel environment. Of course, I'm not a professional at this, and my ideas my be flimsy, but it would be better than what we were given.
