they should put a disclaimer at the beginning of elementary school math. “from 1st to 3rd grade we work in the semiring N.” y’know so kids don’t get confused by the lack of negative numbers

you've heard of introducing your baby to solids, now get ready for: introducing your baby to platonic solids! doom your child to a life of mathematics by feeding them octahedronic potatoes from the time they can babble

I’d argue that numbers DO exist because we made them up. Yes, you can’t get arbitrarily close to things in physical reality, but numbers don’t take place on the physical plane. They take place on the game set created to do math. Irrational numbers have nothing against God or gods, they’re just a consequence of the big Game that is mathematics
Actually I am studying to become a mathematician, and it's going quite well. I quite like algebra.
However, I've decided that real numbers don't exist. We made them up. Yeah, you can formulate theories about them, but like, they're limits of things. You want to tell me limits are real? Like the limit of 1/n, as n approaches infinity? That's nonsense, eventually you'll get to a size smaller than a quark, and then smaller, and then at the Planck lenght. Then you have to stop. It's one planck lenght. Then it's zero, in the next step. What do you mean "arbitrarly close"? Quantum physics absolves you of talking about that. You mean to tell me that the square root of 2, or pi, are irrational? Yeah, if you need a one micrometer precision you may assume that this circle is perfect, and every point is the same distance from the center, but that's an approximation.
Come on. How are you getting a perfect circle to "infinite precision"? That's made up. The proof that irrational numbers exist, combined with quantum physics proves that whatever created the universe cannot be omnipotent, intelligent, and comprehensible at the same time. You can pick any two if you want but I'm going for zero personally.
Oh you're reading about the continuum hypothesis? Yeah that's fun, but it's not real you know? It's playing god with an incomprehensible universe, like ours. "Martin's axiom"? "Singular cardinality hyotesis"? Stop that. Why are you formulating that. It's a castle of cards that will never fall, and cannot ever be made to fall, but it's still a castle of cards. Anyways, math is cool, because it's something that exist apart of any physical reality. And also, it's blasphemous to every religion, mostly for the same reason. Wait no, I think Buddhism might be fine. But I'm white so what do I know.
Anyways, when people tell you that there's infinite numbers, remember the assumption is that we created most of them, like god, at the cost of being able to name and observe any significant amount

From the Sokal fake paper and perhaps the funniest thing I’ve ever read as someone who has a math major/WGS minor just thought I’d share. I know it’s all made up but why is it actually facts??

Not even bijective
From now on I will only be engaging with REAL numbers like 7 and e and 2.8 and subsequent bijective equivalents, none of that fake "Integer" nonsense! God created the REAL numbers; all else is the work of woke theorists!

I hate it when someone finds a real-life use for my pure math and dirties it with application it's like why can't I just have numbers for numbers for numbers why does it always have to MEAN something to someone

I know from like cognitive psychology, ages 0-8 are considered your "formative years", but ngl guys, I don't think I've had a single year of my life where my self-perceptive personhood and outlook and overall views on life as a whole has been unchanged but maybe I'm just a late bloomer
