note: this was based on the song slow dancing in the dark by joji, personally i think the song is so beautiful, it shows vulnerability & frailty. this was inspired by the idea that hoseok doesn’t think he is worthy of love but doesn’t know how to express his emotions any other way except through dance. this is a lot of fluff, sad ish feelings, slight angst, overall exposure of real ass feelings.

boyfriend & girlfriend was a rather harsh label for you & hoseok. you two were faithful to each other and never lied but didn’t tell anyone about your relationship, you saw too often that telling people ruined it. 

living in your own arcadia together, you became engulfed in the idea of him. you found yourself falling down that dreaded hole that was also called love. you didn’t want to admit it but everything about him drove you crazy, it wasn’t until you thought about your life without him that you realized it was too late, you were utterly, beautifully, & fearfully in love with jung hoseok. 

the only downside of your relationship with hoseok is that he found himself struggling with his words most of the time, not because of you but because he also had not felt the feelings that erupted from your relationship. it confused him in the most overwhelming way that sent butterflies to the pit of his stomach, something he felt speechless to express to you. 

when it came to him expressing these feelings & words to you, he would dance with you or for you. whether it be choreographing a dance with you or simply free styling in the studio, he found a way to convey these terribly terrific emotions. 

this night, hoseok called you up at 2am to meet him at the studio, not an unusual wake up call but every time you got the call, it still shook your core. it excited your nerves & made your heart pound. this was a very intimate form of communication you & hobi shared so when he called you up in the horrible hours of the night, it didn’t bother you a bit. 

you made your way up to the studio, lights dim from the appalling hours of the night & met hobi sitting on the floor, aimlessly scrolling on his phone, waiting for you.

you caught his attention immediately & his face lit up. your heart jumped & you cursed to yourself in your head. you're so whipped. he greeted you by taking your hands into his & let out a long sigh. you asked him if he was okay, knowing you wouldn’t get an answer, verbally at least, & he just nodded his head with a smile. not the same smile as the one when you arrived, but a shielded, hidden smile. 

hobi walked over to his phone & started the song that boomed through the connected speakers. that first beat was so distinct, you felt your heart sink instantly.

hoseok’s body took on the solemness of joji’s voice, personified melancholiness. though his natural dance type is tight, controlled, & refrained, this song possessed his body to become fluid, even sensuous. you were encapsulated in this new found emotion he was presenting. 

“when I'm around slow dancing in the dark. don't follow me, you'll end up in my arms”

hoseok danced with his eyes tightly shut, his eyebrows corrugated as if squeezing away tears that threatened to come out. 

“give me reasons we should be complete. you should be with him, i can't compete”

as if he was speaking directly to you, through the music, through his sinuous movements, you felt every emotion it evoked. & it broke your heart. how he felt this way was beyond you. 

he didn’t think he was enough for you?

you started feeling tears pricking at the corners of your eyes, taunting you. your vision started to become blurry when the first few tears came streaming down, you were glad hobi’s eyes were closed, seeing you like this would stop him immediately. but you didn’t want him to stop. 

“i don't wanna go home. can it be one night?”

that’s when you caught the first glimmer, hoseok began practically sobbing at the lyrics, pushing through every painful dance move that was an elicit metaphor for the feelings he was so deeply struck with. 

hoseok was so caught up in the dance, proving with every fiber of his being what this song meant, how to correctly illustrate these agonizing feelings to you. he was so lost in it that he didn’t even see you run up behind his back, throwing your arms around his shoulders & neck, creating a seatbelt type embrace, wanting to feel him completely. you cried into his shoulder & you felt his tears fall onto your wrist as he kissed them tenderly. 

“im not going to be weak anymore, y/n. im tired of hiding behind lyrics. i need to tell you with my words,” hoseok said, words laced with self hatred in between sniffles. he continued to speak, your face still in his shoulder. you couldn’t bear to look at him, he was hiding his face anyways. 

“i love you so much. okay? i said it. im so utterly in love with you & im terrified of saying that but it was killing me to keep it inside. i can't be a coward anymore. i dont feel worthy of you but this was my first step to prove to you. im using my words & i dont know if i can survive your reaction if i look at you.” hoseok ended his tangent. his breaths were shaky & his body trembled in fear. 

you untangled your arms from his & turned his face around, you needed to see him, even though you know it would ruin you. his beautiful, wet eyes stared into yours, drinking every emotion you held in them. despite confessing wanting to be more verbally honest & intimate, you caressed the sides of his face & brought him into a slow, heart-rendering kiss. 

a kiss that held every single lyric, every midnight text, every tear shed, every laugh shared, every flow from a dance move, every graze of a hand, every hidden emotion you both kept in secret from each other. 

“there is nothing more i can say. i feel the exact same way & i feel incredibly foolish for ignoring what was right in front of us. & you have never been so wrong, thinking you are not worthy of me. your fallacious impression of me, thinking you aren’t the person i adore is heart breaking. hoseok, i love you...”

you & the rest of the boys were all laughing, joking around, behind the scenes on a couch while your boyfriend, yukhei, was posing for his shot.

the photoshoot was coming to an end soon & you were exhausted. you couldn’t help but feel your eyelids getting heavier & soon your head was bobbling back & forth, waking yourself up everytime it fell a little too far.

the other boys thought it was so funny, they were cooing at your child-like drowsiness & giggled when you scrunched your nose at the loud booms of their laughter.

yukhei felt himself getting jealous, he didn’t know why because he knew they meant no harm, but for some reason his heart began to ache.

yukhei was finished & sent the next guy to get his shots done & on the way through the group, he grabbed your hand to the next room, practically dragging your half asleep body, wanting to talk to you privately.

you squinted your eyes from the harsh lights in the room while yukhei closed the door with his back, slumping against it with a defeated look. he started his sentence but interrupted himself, he put his hands on his hips, puffed out his cheeks with a long breath, & widened his eyes while looking down, looking very animated.

“do you love me?” yukhei asked, his brows cinched together, eyes looking like they held the galaxy. you swore you saw tears welled in his eyes. you didn’t even get time to answer before he was pacing, running his hands through his hair & starting his usual stream of consciousness.

“i don’t know why i’m asking. i know you do. love me, that is. i love you so much & my brain is playing tricks. it’s just i saw you with the guys, they were going crazy of how cute you are & like-THAT’S MY THING,” he protested in the most pitiful voice, you couldn’t help but laugh at the sight. you shook your head & took his face into your hands. his eyes WERE holding the galaxy, the galaxy that was you. 

“don’t laugh...” yukhei half said in a sad voice, half said through a chuckle. 

“of course i love you, & don’t doubt that for second. you’re goofy to even question that. im laughing because you think you aren’t the only person in the world when im around you, even when im not around you...” you said to yukhei as he sniffled back tears that he so badly didn’t want to let drop. 

you wiped the ghost tears from his face before you took his hand & walked out of the room. (knowing that he wouldn’t want the boys to see him puffy eyed). you & yukhei sat down together on the couch, waiting for the photoshoot to end the extremely long night.

“ThAt’s mY tHinG.” you heard johnny choke out in a high pitched, rather annoying voice, that was supposed to be imitating yukhei, & that’s when the whole room lost it.
