The tea is that cartoon shows like Totally Spies, W.I.T.C.H. and Kim Possible did more for women's empowerment and representation of strong, independent female leads than the *serious* pieces of media like Game of Thrones and Star Wars. Those shows were watched by boys in the same percentage as they were watched by girls and no one ever complained that they featured strong, moral and also flawed ladies kicking ass whose arc didn't revolve around their boyfriends, nor did it imply the redemption or the elevation of a male character. And they were all produced before or around 2010 (Totally Spies was first aired in the early 2000s) and almost 10 years later, we are not in a better place.

the werewolf essay I'm on now points out that trial transcripts from witch hunts aren't really a good reflection of the popular culture's concept of witches and werewolves, because the confessions tend to be led by what the judges etc. want to hear (especially in cases where confessions are extracted under torture) & what the judges want to hear is based on theological and scholarly discussion, not popular folklore. Which makes sense! But what cracks me up is that the author then points out that a better source of popular culture is in records of slander cases. Which also makes sense! because these are allegations made by everyday people against everyday people, across a pretty broad cross-section of society. so I guess if you really want to know about what people believed you need to read about the kinds of insults and slanging matches they had, and I think that's perfectly delightful

geoguesser but for retail chains
you get one (possibly 360 degree) photo of the interior with all identifying logos and labels scrubbed out, and you have to guess if it’s a Kroger or an Aldi or a Hallmark or a Hot Topic based on either highly specific details or vibes

Thanks for the tag @measuredmisura!!
favourite colour: blue!! any shade, really, except electric blue (can't stand it for some reason lol)
currently reading: The Saint plays with fire by Leslie Charteris
last song: Cha Cha Twist by Riki feat. Lorella Cuccarini (it's so catchy I literally have it on repeat)
most recent film: I honestly have no idea, it's been so long since I've watched any movies 😅
most recent series: Sherlock and Daughter, Shekhar Home (I've been watching nothing but Sherlock Holmes adaptations for months so uhh yeah oops)
sweet/salty/savoury: salty!!
tea or coffee: coffee (but iced tea is ok too)
working on: don't really have any projects going on right now (I would kill to write something but alas the inspiration is simply not there) but I have been teaching myself shorthand so I guess that counts as something I'm working on...?
tagging: @folatefangirl @dimdiamond @quatregats @inspectorspinda (only if you want to!)
get to know your mutuals
thanks to @ladyofdragonflies for tagging me! (alas, I'm not as gifted with Gifs, so this will look a little more boring :D)
favorite color: blue, unless we're talking Magic: the Gathering, in which case: RED. (burn, baby!) currently reading: The Mageborn Traitor, Melanie Rawn; The Dream Thieves, Maggie Stiefvater and Spy x Family vol. 5 last song: Spirit in the Sky - Keiino (I've recently acquired a bunch of older Eurovision CDs after I decided to splurge on the 2025 one.) most recent film: Battleship (2012) - based on the game, yes. possibly a bit silly, yes, but in a fun way - especially if you've ever experienced a sudden craving for a chicken burrito. most recent series: Ted Lasso (Dani Rojas <3), about to start The Gilded Age (ordered from the library) sweet/salty/savory: sweet tea or coffee: neither working on: the ficlet where Heisenberg travels to Copenhagen to tell Bohr that he's certainly not going to be able to build an atomic bomb, and Bohr wonders WTF is wrong with him (but is also kind of relieved, maybe).
tagging: @cannucks-addiction @silverinerivers @misswritesalot @lemonadeandlanguages and @lazyreinelle, if so inclined.

Dolls’ house made by Frans and Christina Bosdyk in Picton, New South Wales, 1997-2006. It is is heavily influenced by traditional 17th century Dutch dolls houses and is made to 1/10-1/12 scale, with 20 rooms and a working electrical system. The style of the building and rooms span a period from late nineteenth century to the 1950s and portrays aspects of Dutch and Australian life from that time (via).
