The boys 🥶🔥😈

Hello welcome back, hope everyone is doing well(@Mr. Lewis the #1 and only fan of the blog)anyhow I got some Tiktok terminology this week and some new trends so let’s get into it.

So todays tiktok term is “the boys 🥶🔥😈”. Now the boys started off as a small thing like “Saturday’s are for the boys” posters and “this one for the boys” which was subtle misogyny but nobody really cared because nothing they posted was that bad. It would be things like:

“OH THIS ONES FOR THE BOYS DO YOU KNOW WHEN YOU DRINK WATERRR AHHAHA GIRLS WOULD’T GET IT” 

So basically everyone just tried to avoid the whole “ The boys 🥶🔥😈”  trend at first and just forget about it but then... then... they started posting things that were straight up misogynistic like clear as day misogyny cult.

And the king of “The boys 🥶🔥😈” himself would be Mr. Russel Hartley, who I will not be linking the Tiktoks of because he already has an actual platform for some reason I don’t understand. However I know you’re probably curious to see the dumb things he posts so I will link one of my favorite youtubers reacting to his videos

YA... so basically Russel is a “dating coach” and his videos would pop up on the FYP all the time and every time he pops up on mine I turn my phone off and scream into my pillow because rage. The thing is though, this wouldn’t be an issue if there weren't so many young and impressionable children on the app, but because there are, a good amount of them probably LISTEN TO HIS ADVICE... BECAUSE HE HAS A PLATFORM... and that scares me every day.

So because “the boys 🥶🔥😈” began to be a cult, it became standard practice on tiktok to refer to misogynist as  “the boys 🥶🔥😈”.

Let me give you some examples of where you can see this being used 

EXAMPLE 1

VIDEO: Someone talking about feminism

COMMENTS:  “the boys 🥶🔥😈” ain’t gonna like this one.

EXAMPLE 2(this was actually the premise of an entire video Russel posted but I cant find it) 

VIDEO: IF A GIRL USES SNAP CHAT SHE IS FOR THE STREETS(for the streets basically means a girl gets with a lot of guys and is typically used in misogynistic content)

COMMENTS: “the boys 🥶🔥😈” would think this oml

Anyways if you don’t have content on your FYP that has to do with “the boys 🥶🔥😈” then count your blessings because my mental health has began to deteriorate since I found out a lot of people like this actually exist.  

Now for some trends I have been seeing around Tiktok recently :D

So basically there is this one trend where people start playing dramatic music while giving some no nuance opinions on a matter.

Drivers License Tiktok

HELLO, and welcome to the new year everybody! Does this year feel any different?!? NO!! WELL why is that?!? Because white supremacist have ALREADY stormed the capitol??:DDDDD and what did Gen Z do in response???? Well obviously we made a bunch of funny tiktoks to cope with the fact our government is failing and we can’t REALLY do much about it <3 SO ya I will be getting into that but I also need to mention a new song has taken tiktok over COMPLETELY. There is just A LOT to unpack today so for that reason there will be no tiktok terminology in this blog ;( I know, I know its a big loss but don’t worry it will be back next month.

Anyways, lets get into this whole Drivers License tiktok situation. Now I bet you are thinking “Jess I got my license … I don’t need this”. And you would be right to have that opinion, HOWEVER, this is not about the people that give you hacks on how to get your drivers license(although that side of tiktok does exist and they are surprisingly helpful), it’s about the new song that Olivia Rodrigo(a 17 year old girl and star of High School Musical the Musical the Series aka HMTMTS) dropped last week. I would Highly recommend you listen to it.

SO FOR STARTERS girly is a DISNEY STAR and she straight up dropped the F bomb... which like period go off but like I didn't even know that was ALLOWED for Disney stars. Other than that Olivia Rodrigo is 17... LIKE WHAT... people on tiktok are comparing her to Taylor Swift and Lorde. Taylor Swift even commented on Olivia’s post saying she was proud of her for topping the charts. OH WHICH BY THE WAY she has been at the very top of the iTunes charts since the song came out. She has beat Ariana Grande’s “Thank you Next” for biggest single day streams of a song by a female artist. She beat ARIANA GRANDE... I’m not very into pop music but I must say that is a big achievement because “Thank you Next” has been big for quite some time. Not to mention this is only Olivia’s second song released(The first song she released was called “All I want” and she wrote it for HMTMTS), so it’s safe to say we can expect big things form her. 

Now you may be thinking “Jess this is nothing new... a good song takes over tiktok every week”... well yes but this one is different because people aren't only talking about the song but also who the song is about.(now if you are going to act like teen drama isn't interesting then I guess skip this paragraph lol) Basically Olivia Rodrigo and Joshua Bassett play love interests in HMTMTS and usually I am against speculating relationships between the cast members because it ruins friendships and all that jazz, but this this is just too much to ignore. So first things first Joshua Bassett is also a songwriter, and he wrote a song that people think was about Olivia since he posted Instagram stories singing it when they were in the middle of shooting for their show. The song was basically about how he would find a way to date this unavailable girl and at the time Olivia was dating her former costar from another Disney show, Ethan Wacker(which people speculated that the song could have been about Ethan but then he responded to it by saying “it’s not about me I treated her well” LMAOOOOO). Then a short time after Olivia and Ethan broke things off, Olivia posted a clip of a love song on her insta story called “I like you so much it’s kinda gross” about a boy who had brown hair, brown eyes and was her best friend yada yada, which people realized was definitely about Joshua because she described him as her “guy best friend” in many interviews, and he fit the description in the song perfectly. Then Olivia posted a video where she talked about how her and Joshua would drive around together a lot and how Joshua was helping her get her drivers license(which basically just proved completely that the song was about him). THE final piece of this puzzle is that recently Joshua had started dating Sabrina Carpenter who is the star of a show called “girl meets world”(a spin off of “Boy Meets World”) She is 21 years old and has Blonde hair.... Olivia Rodrigo is 17... are we seeing the connection here... cause like remember in the song... when she said... “your probably with that blonde girl”... and “she’s so much older than me”.... so um ya not so subtle there. ANYWAYS... I think this is all fine and dandy but honestly the drama here does not seem genuine. This seems like such a big publicity stunt  for the show especially because Joshua Bassett posted the song on his story and said he was proud of Olivia AND also they are both currently shooting another season of HSMTMTS so like... if this was real I don’t think this song would have came out. They can’t ACTUALLY allow bad blood between the two main love interests of the show. SO ya if you got through this ~CHONKAY~ paragraph then you get extra coolguy points AND you get to be in the loop for one of the big love scandals of my generation(you can say this is like the Salena and Justin of Gen Z).

So now moving onto a more serious topic  ✨ the capitol riots ✨. I HONESTLY think that this really pushed everyone over the edge... like did we not all say Jumanji when 2021 hit???WHAT ARE WE MISSING HERE? This was just not the way to start the year, and clearly everyone on tiktok is over it as well. Since this occurrence I have realized two groups have formed on the app: the informers, and the jokers. EACH IS ESSENTIAL to the wellbeing of everyone because the informers are there to bum us out, tell us the facts and make us realize how much we want to move to Canada, WHILE the Jokers are also gonna make us want to move to Canada but they deliver THEIR info with some sparkle so we can cope :D

Don't get me wrong there is also a small population of Trump supporters on tiktok that are defending the riots, but it doesn’t take too long for the leftist on the app to debunk their info and make them delete their comments, posts, ect.

The Fencing Emoji?

Hello! Welcome back. As we are nearing the holidays TikTok has become nothing short of fun and festive, it’s like winter break has already begun You may be thinking: “BUT school is still in session?!?!” Ya well... nobody cares, we’re all just thinking about baking cookies and ruining our sleep schedules all over again :)

But before I can get into anymore of what what's happening on the FYP, let me talk about what’s going on in the comments.

This week a new and extremely unexpected emoji has surfaced. Can you guess what it is? I bet you wouldn't guess this here emoji: 🤺. Now you may be scared and confused and that is understandable... but once you get it your life will improve. 

It’s difficult to describe what the emoji can be used with because honestly there are steps to it. I guess the first thing you need to know is that the emoji originated from a comment that read : BACK 🤺BACK I SAY🤺. But it can also just be used alone and people will know that you’re referring to that statement. It’s used in responses that show disapproval on a person or sport or well... anything actually.

Now the moment you have all been waiting for... the examples.

ANYWAYS.. Moving on to the trends this week 

Personally, my favorite trend going around right now is girls telling guys that they look like they can’t swim. Now if someone told me I looked like I couldn’t swim, I would say something along the lines of “uhhh ok?”. Well the boys that were being put to the test did not fail to explain why they absolutely do look like they can swim.

Why is Everyone Slapping Themselves?

DISCLAIMER: Hi everyone (and by everyone I mean my journalism teacher). I’m writing this at like 12am so there might be a few typos and it just might be more crazy than usual because of the amount of coffee I’ve drank. (I didn't choose poor time management skills, poor time management skills choose me)

ANYWAYS... onto the good stuff

This week I wanna talk about why your teenager may have developed the shape of a red hand on their face. Its because of this here emoji: 🤭

Now you may be wondering why that might be, but don’t worry I’m here to tell you that we don’t know why we do it either. 

It started off as a little funny thing people would do to show shock or disapproval and maybe a little bit of disgust... but now it’s used to show happiness, sadness, and anger, the list goes on and on. Personally, I think the emoji and action itself basically has taken over the internet because it can be applied to any situation. 

let me give you some examples

Person one: My homework was due at 11:59 and yet its 12:22 and I’m not even close to being done...

Person one: BRO WE R GOING TO DISNEY

SEE it applies to everything... so if you see a teenager just smacking themselves in the face when talking to their friends... don't worry about  it. They are just not able to control the urge of reacting with this  🤭  to any given situation. I don't think it’s going to pass anytime soon though, so ya’ll better pray for gen Z.

Fairy Emojis and New Trends

Welcome back fellow Tik Talkers, This week has been crazy with the viral videos and I can't wait to get into them but first lets do some Tik Tok terminology 

 This weeks terminology is all about ✨🧚Fairy Emojis🧚

Fairy emojis are not at all supposed to be magical, they, much like the heart emoji, are meant to add a sarcastic tone to a series of very funny and witty comments.

let me give you some examples 

Tik Tok Video: *someone makes a video of them baking something gross*

Some comments you would find under the video

Fairy comments can work in a number of situations but its important to know that when someone uses the fairy emojis you better run because they are here to roast you. 

Now let’s look at one of the most beautiful example of the use of fairy comments. 

A while ago Tik Tok came to the conclusion that on one of Donald Trumps’ instagram posts they would comment a series of fairy comments, and the results are simply outstanding

My absolute most favorite thing that is trending this week is that congresswomen, Alexandria Ocasio Cortez(AOC) was playing the new hit app “among us”(if you don’t know what among us it download it and play a few games I promise it will improve your life)to encourage younger people to vote. A lot of other politicians bashed her and claimed she was unprofessional but honestly she killed it, and she formed a new bond with Gen Z that no politician ever has.

Tik Tok Terminology and Trends

Its no surprise that Tik Tok is playing a large role in kids lives and language, it’s one of the most diverse platforms to post content and easily go viral on, but to someone who doesn't necessarily spend all their time on the app, some things that users reference to constantly can be hard to understand. With each weekly blog I’ll be introducing one new term and some new trends. I hope this is a adequate introduction for you all and that you find what I put up helpful👍.

Without further ado here's some new terminology for y’all   *<):-P

Lets talk about the heart emoji:❤️ 

To the layman the red heart emoji may be something you send with good intentions, maybe to let someone know you care for them or that you send a message with love. Let me tell you, the heart emoji could not be anything further from that when it comes to Tik Tok comments. 

Basically, the heart emoji can mean different things depending on the context if you send a message like “no❤️” the heart emoji is put in place to add sass and to dismiss a point/statement made in a video.  

EXAMPLE:

Video Maker: (Puts up video about them enjoying eating sticks of butter) 

Commenter: No❤️

Now in this example the statement no is not being made with love its being made with sass and and the intention to shut down what someone is thinking without them being able to really respond. Someone might also use the “No❤️” to respond to a question and (In which case it would have the same connotation).

EXAMPLE:

Friend 1: Do you wanna drop me off at the mall tomorrow at 6am

Friend 2: No❤️

Now any other statement with a heart at the end of it will have the same rules except for when the word “yea” is paired with the heart emoji, in which case it would be “yea❤️”. It’s best to use “Yea❤️” when responding to something that you are in trouble for or to respond to a situation in which you know you are going to be in trouble but you are in acceptance of it. 

EXAMPLE:

Video Maker: Ya’ll know when you spend all your time on Tik Tok instead of starting your homework.

Commenter: Yea❤️

ANOTHER EXAMPLE:

Friend 1: You know that was due yesterday 

Friend 2: Yea❤️

Thats basically it, from here you should be able to understand what people mean when they send things with a heart emoji a little more. The heart emoji has a close relationship with the sparkle and fairy emojis which I’ll get into next week❤️.

-Introducing people to the names that your parents were going to give you but then decided not to.
