SUMMER GIN GUP
This cooling cocktail from Bottle Bar and Shop in Catford offers a delicious alternative to Pimm’s
Bottle Bar and Shop is the business idea of passionate mixologist Xhulio Sina and his wife Natalie John, a keen cocktail sampler who looks after the PR and marketing side.
The couple’s vision was to open a bar and shop that could offer handmade and delicious cocktails in a bottle. So in December 2017, they took the plunge and launched Bottle Bar and Shop in Catford town centre.
It’s been a tough time for small businesses and after months of closure and adaptation, Xhulio and Natalie are excited to have both the bar and shop open again.
What makes their business unique is the handcrafted aspect of their cocktails. Each cocktail is handmade from start to finish: their small team infuses, mixes, creates, prepares and bottles up each one at the shop, always in small batches to ensure the highest quality.
There are no additives or flavourings in their drinks, just delicious classic cocktails made with natural ingredients.
The mixology team uses high quality products such as Rock Rose Gin and Holy Grass Vodka – both handcrafted by Dunnet Bay Distillers in Caithness, Scotland – and In The Loop, an “all English” vermouth that is made using English wine and fresh botanicals including Cornish chamomile, gorse flowers foraged in the Ashdown forest and lemon verbena grown at its East Sussex home.
Over the past three years, Xhulio, Natalie and their team have worked hard to prove that their bottled cocktails can be just as tasty as cocktails from some of the best bars.
They say they want people to move away from the idea that ready-to-drink cocktails are full of sugar and additives. And the amount of dedication and time they put into making each bottle certainly shows.
One of their most popular cocktails is the summer gin cup, a delicious and refreshing beverage that goes down oh so easily, especially on a hot summer’s day.
If you’re a gin lover and you’re after a tasty summer cocktail, this one’s for you. It is Bottle Bar and Shop’s take on the iconic British drink that is Pimm’s, and is perfect for an afternoon with friends and family around the barbecue.
Method 1 Mix 1 part (50ml) of Bottle Bar and Shop’s readymade summer gin cup with 3 parts (150ml) of lemonade or ginger ale.
2 Add ice and garnish with your favourite summer fruit. Xhulio uses strawberries, cucumber, mint and slices of orange.
3 Enjoy!
