Martin Luther King isn't evidence that peaceful protesting works. He's evidence that even if you're peaceful, they'll still kill you.

The change wasn't in response to people listening to Martin Luther King. The change was in response to the riots that happened after he was murdered.

If you're able to command that protesters be peaceful, then you're able to command that the ruling class be peaceful. And if the ruling class were peaceful, the protests wouldn't exist.

Saw a self-care post today that reminded me of something my psychiatrist said a few years back. Keep in mind that this woman comes up to my sternum when we're standing, and I specifically went looking for an AAPI so that I could discuss racial shame without it being conflated with White Guilt. So picture a petite woman of East Asian descent with an overall air like a cross between Miss Frizzle and Ursula from Kiki's Delivery Service.

Me: "I dunno, they say Journaling is good for you, but I can't get past the shame/embarrassment of the idea that someone will find it and read it."

Her: "Hmm, okay, sure. You've been previously conditioned to feel that way, after all. But you're a writer, yes? Not just a photographer?"

Me: *has mentioned being a prolific writer, has absolutely NOT mentioned how much of it is fanfic* "Uh. Well, I mean..."

Her: "And it's not all non-fiction, right?"

Me: *getting increasingly embarrassed*

Me: "Uh, well, I do write around 10k words of...fiction...per day."

Same with siblings. Like, in the French version of District 13, the protagonist goes from quietly thwarting the local crime boss to all-out war because the guy kidnaps his sister..........GUESS WHAT THE AMERICAN VERSION OF THE MOVIE (A.K.A. 'BRICK MANSIONS') DID. They changed it so he was rescuing an ex-girlfriend instead of his sister. Because it's not like he'd go to that kind of effort for somebody he didn't wanna bang, right? *eyeroll so hard I fall over*

The fact that people don't think friendship is enough to justify characters doing insane acts of love for each other baffles me. Like have you never loved your friend so so much you want to live in their ribcage. Have you never been really weird about a friend. Have you never wanted to bite your friends parents or shove them down a staircase. Have you never wanted to be buried in the same grave as a friend. Have u never. How do u people live like this.
