April 27, 1953:
On this day, President Dwight D. Eisenhower issued Executive Order 10450, which banned people of “sexual perversion” from working for any government agency. This led to the mass firing of LGBT people in what would later be known as the Lavender Scare.

Today marks the 17th anniversary of the day Vermont legalized civil unions between same-sex couples. This made Vermont the first state to grant this right to same-sex couples.

On this day 24 years ago, over 700,000 people gathered in Washington D.C to show their support for the LGBT+ community in what would later be known as the 1993 March on Washington.
