Just a little reminder for those who are into nutrition and lifestyle adaptations. 1. Please take things you see on TV or the internet with a pinch of salt. 2. Always find other sources of information to either build on the information you heard or ask others, especially experts in the field. 3. Nothing is gospel. Always formulated an informed opinion. Remember these documentaries are to create awareness one isolated topics. You as the public need to look at the whole picture. 4. Moderation is the road to take. Always try something new and if it doesn't work for your lifestyle or for your emotional health, don't do it. 5. Lastly with nutrition and lifestyle there is never a one size fits all, you do what works for you and always consider sustainability! #nutritionwithZeez #foodandnutrition #takethingswithapinchofsalt #dieteticstudent #healthsciences https://www.instagram.com/p/B4SyFJAAzr9/?igshid=ilt94o9siwmx

21 March 2019 Part 2 Nelson Mandela was the face of Human Rights post 1994. He spoke up, he faced ridicule, he want to jail and he still prevailed. Today if I was asked who my human rights heroes were, I would pick four: 1. Trevor Noah 🇿🇦 @trevornoah and @thedailyshow : Keeping it close to home. If you don't watch it or don't have Comedy Central, then subscribe to their channel on YouTube. Trevor give us a very realistic and relatable view on issues such as racism, imperialism and curruption. What he and Jon Stewart do on the show is give the public an insight into issues which the mainstream media do not fully delve into, for obvious reasons. 2. Ilhan Omar 🙌: being a black, Muslim woman in the US congress is inconceivable. However @ilhanmn, not only made it to congress, but she spoke up on an issue which many refuse to, the human rights violations of the Israeli government. What makes her unique is that she not only apologized for her apparenly anti semetic comments but she still stood form on her stans that being critical of Israel does not make you anti semetic, which I fully agree with and so did many Jewish leaders and citizens in the US. 3. Hasan Minhaj: Go watch @patriotact, because this man took on Saudi Arabia, had his show banned in Saudi and still made a follow up episode on being censored in Saudi. What he highlighted was the various lengths at which the Saudi government would go to, to hide their heinous human rights violations, which have been going on for decades. 4. Natalie Portman: @natalieportman, she has always been an advocate for the Jewish religion and culture and opposed to the BDS movement (and I fully understand why). What makes her special is that along with being true to her heritage, she is an advocate for not only her own people but everyone on this planet (just watch V for Vendetta). She refused the Genesis award in Israel due to the human rights violations of the Israeli government and still she stayed true to her beliefs. ✊ #HumanRightsDay2019 #DiversityWithZeez #nelsonmandela #trevornoah #dailyshow #hasanminhaj #natalieportman #speakout #standup https://www.instagram.com/p/BvQqN9Vgg6J/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1w2vd09j4xknr

21 March 2019 Part 1 The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was created post World War II. In the wake of the numerous human rights violations and inhumane treatment of Jews, Homosexuals, Arabs and every other race who was deemed inferior, the United Nations decided to draw up this declaration. Flashforward 70 plus years into the future, where we have advances in medicine, technology, agriculture and economics, yet human rights violations are still as ripe as ever. Only now, governments are selective over who they deem worthy of human rights. So we as individuals living in places such as South Africa, New Zealand, Palestine, Isreal, the USA, Venezuela or Thailand (to name a few), should educate ourselves by reading, watching the news and speaking to people who come from different backgrounds or who hold different views on certain issues. This way we learn, speak up and create awareness on issues such as hunger, poverty, violence against minorities, hatred and racism. #HumanRightsDay2019 #southAfrica #educateourselves #worldwar2 #palestine #christchurch #israel #venezuela #USA https://www.instagram.com/p/BvQkjaaAW92/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=17tvb8v71k41n

21 March 1960 On this day protesters took to the street in opposition to the intense segregation laws opposed on people of colour in South Africa during the Apartheid Era. I spoke to my parents on many occasions about what growing up in this time was like and the one thing that always came up was their pass books. If you were a non white in the Apartheid Era, your identification documents were different. This was a way for the authorities to restrict the volume of black, coloured and POC populations in certain areas. Today is a day where we in South Africa remember the countless human rights violations which occurred over the years and still happen today, whether it is due to what has happened or due to our new government, it does not matter. What we as humans should be concerned about is what we are doing to prevent further human rights violations from occurring around us. SDG #2: Zero Hunger Part 4 This photo was taken in at an Early Childhood Development Centre in Walleedene Kraaifontein. It also happens to be one of the SHILOH ECD centers. They center around providing a holistic environment where children have a safe space to learn. Here the teachers and professionals work with the community to ensure that these children have an enabling environment. In addition to focusing on childhood development, the ladies at SHILOH also focus on involving the community in sustainable gardening and growing of their own produce. Due to the limitation within the education and health sector in South Africa, not all areas have facilities such as these, however many areas still try to ensure that children today have safe spaces where they are stimulated and cared for. As well as initiatives which uplift the less privilidged within the community. It just a matter of actually going out and looking for such places and actually finding out what you as an individual can do to assist. #sustainabledevelopmentgoals #nutritionwithZeez #DiversityWithZeez #communityoutreach #earlychildhooddevelopment #takingitbackto2018 #kraaifontein #capetown #southafrica (at Kraaifontein) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bu6JzA3Aixq/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1dkrkhfumbagf

SDG #1: End all poverty everywhere Poverty is more than the lack of income and resources to ensure a sustainable livelihood. Its manifestations include hunger and malnutrition, limited access to education and other basic services, social discrimination and exclusion as well as the lack of participation in decision-making (www.un.org) Not only does poverty deprive someone of their basic human rights, but of their dignity as well. Being charitable is great, it gives us a sense of satisfaction, knowing we helped someone in that moment. However that's what charity is, helping someone in THAT moment. If we in our communities can build foundations where individuals can sustain themselves then we would have contributed and assisted someone in taking charge of their lives. It's easier said than done. Especially in South Africa where unemployment is through the roof. Though by educating people and helping one another gain the skills and knowledge they need through facilitation, we may be able to help the population. #sdg2030 #sustainabledevelopmentgoals #nutritionwithZeez #DiversityWithZeez #helpingoneanother #poverty #sustainabledevelopment #empowerment https://www.instagram.com/p/Bu23OZbgdg6/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1qcsbhkls3jbu

What Captain Marvel Can Teach Us
Tumblr media
I keep my expectations low when watching superhero movies (or any movie for that matter) and it’s exactly for moments like this – to be blown away by the amazingness that is Marvel. If you’re analytical when it comes to movies, like I am, then this is for all of you.
The women
This movie was all about sisterhood and women empowerment, but it was done right. There was no aggressively pushed agenda of feminism. It was all about supporting each other and trusting one another (Captain M and Rambo). This movie was all about her, as a person trying to better herself. So well done Marvel (pun intended).
The Story
If you’re invested in a franchise as I am in Marvel (and so many others), things can become predictable and you sorta know the flow of movies. It happened a bit with this movie, however, the big reveals were still surprising when they did happen. So, points for execution.
The Movie
A story can be badly written, and the plot can be complete rubbish, but if the performer is good, then it honestly does not matter. Brie Larson was never on my radar, I knew her due to Skull Island, but she was never an outstanding actress to me. I was wrong. In this movie Brie killed it, she was outstandingly good – as in it was a pleasure to watch her act. She wasn’t the only one. Samuel L. Jackson (legend) and Jude Law (always a pleasure to watch), I was also introduced to Lashana Lynch in this movie (Rambo). I am going to sound a bit bias (due to Crazy Rich Asians), but I can watch Gemma Chan all day long, her part was a bit small in this movie, but it was still captivating to watch her.
The Message
Now to the thing that struck me the most with this film. With today’s social climate, I love when movies, especially superhero films, tackle issues such as racism, ignorance and propaganda. We live in an age where ignorance and lack of education on various topics have spurred on Islamaphobia, xenophobia and just overall blind hatred of various minority groups. Due to media we are propagated to only listen to one side of a story and are only shown what they want us to see (but most of us know that already). We tend to only want to look at the ‘pretty’ pictures in life and condemn what we don’t deem acceptable or pretty or modern enough in our social circles. When people then realise that they have been conditioned to accept certain truths and attempt to speak out on them, they are labelled as ‘anti…”, “unpatriotic” or are painted in such a bad light, by their own people (because they are too ignorant to listen to other’s opinions). This movie literally smashed all those ideals and showed us what looking at both sides can actually achieve. It’s not only this film that does that (looking at you Zootopia), but it was one of the few movies that shoves into the viewers face and I loved that.

SDG #2: No Hunger To end all hunger, achieve food security and improve and promote sustainable agriculture.
During the next few weeks I will be highlighting why this goal is a top priority. In last few years the following phrase has popped up a lot, "Nutrition is everyone's business but no one's responsibility". Everyone thinks that they have insight into nutrition, but when it comes to actually discussing the real issues behind nutrition (both over and under), most people turn away from the facts or tend to follow the latest trends on the internet/media. During this month this page will be highlighting the second SDG and why creating a sustainable environment can rid the human population of many food related issues.
