was rereading the Three Body Problem recently and was thinking that while I can suspend my disbelief in relation to some aspects of the plot, like the three body game, I just can't accept that a new experiment flying in the face of all established theories would drive the world's leading physicists to insanity and depression. surely they would be at least partly excited by it, for the chance to come up with entirely new theories to explain the apparently inconsistent and illogical results

like, okay, consent does literally just mean agree. which is what enables this little rhetorical trick. because there's all this cultural emphasis on sexual consent, which is just expressed as consent, a lot of phrases whose intended meanings are "rape is bad" can be taken literally to mean "i should get to agree to everything that happens in my vicinity."

Australia, as a country, has developed a weird national collective amnesia that winter ever exists in this country to the point that every solstice the national broadcaster runs an article going 'Australians once again shocked at to discover this new thing called "cold"'.
#we have the opposite probl#problem in finland#because our houses are built to keep the heat in - not out#no one has ac#and summers have been getting hotter#like thankfully it's currently a very normal summer so far in comparison#but i understand when... areas not used to cold react to cold#-20 degrees is no biggie here but 25 degrees is a heat wave#can only imagine how cold mildly cold would feel somewhere not built for cold
