YES!!! the chorus, bridge, and verse 3 especially. "you're the only one who's making me come // to my sinful senses" very much smacks of the guilt wily feels when light reaches out to him; as seen in "I'll never feel ashamed of using you for pleasure", though, that guilt doesn't outweigh his almost compulsive need to turn light's trusting nature against him. at least that's my read of it (I think "I'll never love anyone the same" is self-explanatory LOL)

"I love you in the worst way" hurts really badly but fits really well :( this really is a certified toxic yaoi moment

"I love you and I hate you and I'm losing my mind // and you tell me all the time that this will pass and that I'm gonna be fine" reminds me of the way light handles wily's Obvious Psychological Issues. he kind of handwaves them and hopes they'll pass, regardless of the intensity of wily's feelings. god!! they're fucked!!!!

I actually think about light's hands-off approach with wily's self improvement a lot. he seems to believe that reaching out over and over, that subtly exposing wily to the truth of their relationship (i.e. that light sees him as a dear friend [ahem] and equal) will simply. Fix whatever's troubling him. he places the responsibility of development squarely on wily's shoulders (good), but makes no real effort to understand him on a psychological/emotional level (bad). the closest he comes to doing so is in rm11, wherein he privately laments the impact his actions might've have had on wily's mental state/future behaviour, but, when confronting him, focuses on the possibility of rekindling their partnership instead.

when light says "we achieved this together" what he doesn't realise is that he's diminishing wily's personhood in a way. when light gives wily an opportunity to "join his side", he is, implicitly, apologising.

but he doesn't say sorry. he doesn't say that wily was right. this is perfectly normal, expected even, but important to me because imo wily only really registers this sort of thing when it's framed through the lens of explicit validation. if light can't bring himself to say it outright, wily is never going to listen. boulder meet hill.

thinking about this again. I generally hold the opinion that light believes his own hype, at least to the extent that he has an overinflated sense of responsibility and compulsively places the needs of others above his own (partially why I think he feels that "saving" wily is his responsibility, even if he's ill-equipped to unpack all his issues); therefore, to befriend someone like wily, someone who seemingly couldn't give two shits about who he was, treated him like a person, and maybe even encouraged him to be a little more selfish, must've been a huge relief on his psyche, even if only subconsciously.

I wonder how disappointed light was when he realised wily never saw through him; that the image that burdened him so had been internalised by the one person he thought didn't care about it; that he was, all along, truly alone.

I wanted to write a serious analysis post to prove that I have shit to say but I'm too tired so here's some hcs about their uni days before I log off for the night:

I think about this wily line from x4 a lot, not only because it's the gayest thing he's ever said, but also because of the specific phrasing.... my enemy (adversarial), my rival (comparatively neutral), my reason for living (fruity)... almost as if he becomes more sentimental the longer he talks about light....

the exact word he uses in japanese is 生き甲斐 (ikigai), which, upon looking into it, carries a lot of social context but is essentially just one's purpose in life. it seems to have variations, but this is the one I think fits wily the most:

also I find it interesting that this is technically the most explicitly obsessed he's been with light in the games, but it's only said after their connection is completely beyond saving... does knowing that light won't try to save him anymore make it easier for him to admit these things?
