Rothko? What is a fucking rectangle?
Since I was born (i know too exaggerated) I've never adequately understood Rothko's art. Yall might say that it's my poor qualification and knowledge, and you might be right. I was constantly browsing his art faking my total appreciation and understanding.
However, I'm indeed attending my Masters in Art history or something similar (not going too deeply into what is my course name since it's VeRy niche and my identity might be discovered OmgOmg). too shy for that, too scared to express my ideas freely.
Anyhow, back to Rothko.
I've randomly found a book in my favourite library about Rothko art and I'm devouring each page. I feel that I NEED TO UNDERSTAND.
quite impressive for a lil-girl-in-a-world-of-knowledge.
"There is no such thing as good painting about nothing" - MaRk RoThKo and AdOlpH GoTtLiEb
His main language was colour, strong potential of being understood by every viewer.
But what is a rectangle for you?
YEEEEES, YoU that are just reading my words.
What is? Who told you that a rectangle is a rectangle?
You are might thinking now, oh wtf is this question? And honesty who the fuck am I to tell you to not question your readings.
You should question me, yourself, the world and your thoughts about what is a rectangle.
Well, Rothko presents us with his almost "unshaped" rectangular paintings, with undefined edges but why??? why bringing us to the exasperation with all our fucking ocds ??? why Rothko fffks???
I need to understand why!
"Rothko paintings are essentially the painted expression of what it is to be human and alive, filled with joy and sorrow, aspiration and despair, fears and hopes, and fears about our hopes".
WTF? Big Confusion till this word appeared.
DRAMA
Drama....... did I just attribute drama to his paintings?
well yes,
DRAMA, he said with few words after...
Drama in how we interact with the art, raw feelings... direct, honest, brutal. But why am I supposed to understand your drama, Mr Rothko?
or maybe what I see it's my own brutal, scary, delicate, psychological drama?
Yes, you won my heart ROthKo, now I understand and I'll never fake my appreciation, I do actually appreciate it for real.
one of my favs:
