On my spn rewatch and Folsom Prison Blues just hit me with the revelation that 23 year old Sam was very well on his way to become a douchebag corpo lawyer had he stayed at Stanford. Dean says innocent people are about to die because of a haunting in the prison and Sam just scoffs out "innocent" and Dean has to remind him that prisoners are human beings who don't deserve to die disproportionately (also they are in a county jail where the majority of prisoners are not in for serious crimes). It was insane how unsympathetic Sam seemed to be in the episode when Dean is shown to be the exact opposite even with the people he gets into fights with. I was very young to catch on to the implications of the episode the first time I watched it and now I appreciate Sam's journey (S1 - S5) more.
#i don't think 30 year old Sam would say the shit he says in this episode#but 30 year old sam also believes that he deserves to die for hi unclean soul#dean was such a cutie in this episode though#like 5 minutes with a prison abolitionist could turn dean into one#if he is not there already#supernatural#spn#spn rewatch#spn season 2#2×19#dean winchester#sam winchester

I don't know if this is the cycle of life because I started out as a die-hard pre-teen supernatural fan, went on an entire arc of hating on the show towards its end in college and now it has looped back around to being an endlessly endearing comfort show in my late 20s
#it all started with a rewatch because of the boys announcement#do I find the show the cast and the showrunners cringe? yes#but the show is a cult classic now#i will never watch the last episode tho#never not thinking about dean winchester deserving better fr#supernatural#spn tumblr#spn#dean winchester#sam winchester#castiel

"Listen as though I'm the voice of God or an angel talking to you. Telling you this room doesn't matter, this night doesn't matter. You're not inconsequential or a junkie. You're a bright young reporter with a point of view. There are stories that need to be told. If things ever get bad again, these are the words you'll hear in your mind like a tape playing over and over, like a song stuck in your brain. These words will hold you up and carry you. "They are your lifeline." That's a free-baser I befriended for a few days at the drսg den. He told me to get my shit together and then he Richard Pryor'd in front of me. Everyone scrambled but I stuck around, watched him burn. What's always confused me was that... You know, he said those words to me, and he was already all burnt up. Figured I'd conflated the two events. But I didn't. Because it was you. I destroyed two marriages. I fuckd up two daughters. But I stayed a journalist. I... I was never so lost I couldn't hold down a job.

I slogged through the interview with the vampire and like half of the Vampire Lestat but I've decided to stop and accept the fact that Anne Rice is not my cup of tea. Love the show and I'm lowkey obsessed with it the way I've not stopped thinking about it for nearly three weeks. But the first two books are setting off some alarm bells about the direction where this is going and I really want to watch the third season of the show devoid of ill feelings towards the source material.

her: she must be thinking about other women
what i’m thinking about: louis! what? WHAT? it’s morning. i lost time. things got a little heated- with a boy! things got heated with a boy. i was at home picking lint off the sofa- i said to join us! the night’s gone, the room’s soiled, and once again i’m sat here with mop and mindlessness to clean it up. so the room got dirty, so what? i’ll clean it up. no, i clean it up! you make the mess, and i clean it up! mark it on the calendar, align it with ursa major, louis’ tri-annual FUCK OFF AND FIND ME with apologies to follow. i’m sorry. to seek comfort in the arms of lowlifes, and unfortunates, and broken children? fine. oh fine? fine. it doesn’t sound like fine. BUT REVEALING OUR NATURE TO A REPORTER YOU MET IN A BAR TEN HOURS AGO? what if it was published? I WAS HAVING SOME FUN! like we don’t have enough to fear after paris- i was in the middle of ending things when YOU- no, you nearly passed out on the floor next to him, louis! out on your feet from the drugs you stuffed him with- oh this is boring! you’re boring! YOU ARE SO BORING! and here come the drugs. COLORLESS. up the fangs. FLAVORLESS. down the throat. DULL. into the heart and off the fingers, feet, and wallowing brain. DULL NIGHTS, DULL WEEKS, DULL MONTHS, DULL AS FUCK! suffocation by the world’s softest, beige-est pillow. the ten hours i spent with that boy were more exciting, more fascinating than DECADES with you. oh there it is, the half-blank, half-apocalyptic look. but what does it mean tonight, huh? does he wanna lick my boots, or chop my hands off? is it the gremlin or the good nurse tonight, huh? okay, okay, perhaps. but am i as boring as the blather committed onto the ferric tapes of your FASCINATING boy? oh, oh it’s so hard to be me! picking lint off the sofa? it’s so hard to kill humans! i can feel their feelings as i drain them! louis de pointe du lac, it’s so hard to be me! everyone i know wronged me! okay, okay, let’s wake the boy up and let’s try you. i’m the vampire armand and my daddy vampire groomed me into a little BITCH! my brother, he tossed himself off a roof- but the vampires have heard of my daddy- my sister, she buried me alive! so he made me pretend i didn’t have a dick for 240 years. my daughter was my sister was my throw pillow. well he wouldn’t look at me kindly, lestat, lestat, lestat, lestat, lestat, lestat, lestat, lestat, lestat, lestat, lestat- I TALKED SHIT ABOUT HIM THE WHOLE TIME-THE NAME! THE NAME, UNUTTERED IN OUR HOME FOR 23 YEARS SAID OVER AND OVER AGAIN UNTIL IT WAS POUNDING IN MY BRAIN LIKE A HAMMER! our problems aren’t about HIM! and you threw HER name around just for cover, but it always circled back to him. i loved her. BUT SHE DIDN’T LOVE YOU! not like he did, not like i have. i know. I KNOW!
#I've had this scene playing in my head since I watched the show last thursday#I can recite it with the exact intonations and shit#iwtv

I'm reading the book and I'm not really feeling it to be honest. Before book readers come at me with pitchforks, the writing is definitely intense for something I assumed was genre fiction and I'll give Anne Rice props for that. I'm also genuinely moved by Claudia and definitely see why her story is even more horrifying in the book even though I'm only half way through.
The only thing that's preventing me from enjoying the book like the show is the original Louis. I fear the show made him a far more compelling character by simply making him a gay black man who owns brothels in the 1910s instead of a one-note depressed plantation owner. Like I can see why show Louis would have some reservations about the blood drinking. He is tormented enough on account of his shame as a pimp and the humiliation that comes with surviving the society as a black man of means and is already depressed enough to seek death as a human being when his brother passes. It is only logical he carries the same shame and self-awareness into his life as a vampire. Louis from the book doesn't come across as having enough depth to feel all that to be honest. I still have more than half of the book left so I'll have to see.
Watched the entirety of interview with the vampire and y'all lied about this being a gay vampire romance when it really was about gay vampires being haunted by their terrible decisions as spouses and parents. And the mistakes are so irredeemable that you can't even begin to contemplate a way forward and find true peace in your long immortal lives as vampires without being haunted by them at every turn. Lowkey obsessed with the show now.
#iwtv#genre fiction#interview with the vampire#I love some lines in the book tho#like I understand why people are attached to the relationships#all interactions between the characters progressively get more and more intense

CLAUDIA And Claudia, for reasons she would not yet divulge, used our advantage sparingly. But make no mistake, Claudia was plotting, quiet in her deer blind. Lestat de Lioncourt. 179 years in the Savage Garden. 148 years the blood-drinker, the bringer of death… the deer come up the trail.
#oh her having to protect one parent from the other#only for them to choose their partner over and over again#i want to kiss myself like
