i just started listening to renegades by marissa meyer. holy hell, the grip this woman has on me is insane. i literally have only listened to two chapters and i already feel at home. there is something that is so familiar about her writing, and her characters even though the story + the characters are so fucking different from her other books. i have never had an experience like this, maybe it was the familiarity of the narrator or writing, but marissa meyer will always be home. ever since i read the lunar chronicles, her books and worlds are home.
Shoutout to Nova Artino and Adrien Everhartt for simultaneously embodying enemies to lovers, friends to lovers, and as far as Nova is concerned enemies to friends, THEN after Adrien finds out going back to enemies only to end up as lovers again.
while we’re talking about books from my childhood i want to mention that nobody is writing young adult books on the level that marissa meyer writes young adult books and that remains true today and forever
finally reading Renegades and every Nova chapter is just her being so unbelievably traumatized and badly adjusted and starved of human connection and plotting the destruction of everyone around her. and then every Adrian chapter is like “wow. Nova is so cool. i hope she likes my superhero suit. i’m gonna draw something for her <3 <3 <3”
