Given how much Yu-Hon clearly loved Yong-Hi, I can see how he went on a total rampage banishing the priests and deeming the legend of the four dragons as a forbidden text, after her death (I'm guessing the timeline here. We don't actually know when Yong-Hi died as far as I know). I think Yong-Hi's death would've absolutely broken him, and maybe he started spiralling downwards to the point that either a) Il had to kill him because he was becoming a legitimate threat to the stability of Kouka (think: war mongering), or b) he asked Il to kill him to free him from his misery. Looooots of guessing here. Should probably bring up a story timeline to see if any of my random theories have validity

Since I can't read Japanese, what exactly eas Yuuki's idea in this chapter?

I personally can only read very basic Japanese. I was very fortunate to have read a translation of the chapter, courtesy of Snow. From what I’ve read, Yuki’s plan was to turn the Former Mayor (the instigator of the killings) into her servant and have him explain what actually happened on live TV. While this idea would’ve worked in the short term, people would’ve very quickly figured out that he’d been turned. Yuki’s plan would ultimately only end up validating the peoples’ fear and hate for vampires.

How do you feel about Toga Yagari and Seiren being paired as a couple?

I really like the idea. The end of VK suggested they were working together, so I was hoping they’d end up a couple in VKM. However, it looks like that never happened and Yagari has certainly passed on at this point in the story, so there goes my shipping dreams. :(

First Thoughts on VKM Chapter 24

The cover with Zero and Ren is pretty darn cool. 

I like that the Vampire King subplot is starting to heat up. Now the threat feels somewhat more legitimate

I’m still not a big fan of it though. It feels poorly written.

Yuki’s idea makes sense in the short term, but definitely has long term implications. I am glad Zero (and Kaname’s ghost/influence) stopped her

Purebloods are known to act on their whims since not a whole lot can stop them, so Yuki’s recklessness in this chapter is not surprising. 

It looks like Zero legit rammed his hand into Yuki’s chest and grabbed her heart to stop her from dispersing. Like damn that’s brutal, but at the same time, nothing less would’ve worked.

Get a job, Takuma. Lazy sod.

I like that Tokiwa is trying to help. She’s immediately jumped to being one my fave characters. 

Seiya, I like you, but you need to stop being a creeper. Please don’t try to kiss the unconscious young lady again

Zero and Ren’s unimpressed looks made me chuckle

I may be generalizing a bit (?) but I think it's sad how you and other Zeki shippers automatically assumed Ai was serious about wanting Ren as a blood bank and would groom her when it's been shown that literally Ren was the one that has unhealthy feelings towards Ai... This is coming from someone that isn't Zeki or Yume. Both fandoms antagonize both kids so much...

Assumed, no. Suspicious, yes. And I still am. In the same way that I’m suspicious of Ren’s feelings for Ai. Those two do not appear to have a strictly platonic sibling relationship, and it goes both ways. Ai wasn’t exactly aghast at Ren leaning incredibly close to her face last chapter. In my opinion, Hino is purposefully depicting these two as somewhat more than just siblings, and we’re just gonna have to wait and see where she runs with it.

In saying that, it should be noted that I really like both Ai and Ren as characters. They’re both total badasses. I just don’t like what Hino seems to implying about their bond.

Finally, I must note that I am strictly speaking for myself here. My opinion does not in any way represent the opinion of all Zekis. The VK fandom (Zekis, Yumes, non-shippers etc) is incredibly diverse and we each have our own opinions and feelings about the story and its characters.

Your attempts to get a rise out of me are gosh darn cute. To answer your question though, I’m not sure why Yuki and Zero haven’t got married yet. Maybe they’re not ready, maybe they don’t want to. Heck, there are plenty of unmarried couples out there who are perfectly happy remaining as such (e.g. Ricky Gervais and Jane Fallon). Just because Yuki and Zero aren’t married, doesn’t make Zero a sidepiece. While I would personally love to see a Zeki wedding, Hino might not go that route, and that is perfectly okay.

Based on the latest chapter, they appear to have a very healthy relationship now. In saying that, the quick resolution of their relationship makes me feel like all of the tension built up in the chapters prior was sort of just….ignored? Like, you could take out SO much stuff (e.g. that scene where Zero bit Yuki all over) because it was all just brushed under the rug in the end.

I don't dislike this cover. Aesthetically, it's very pretty. But I find it uncreative. It's not themed to the chapters in Vol 4 at all. Also, why are the characters in their cross academy uniforms? That's, like, 70 odd years ago at this point. I don't mind a trio cover, just I find this one very unaspired.
