when i annotated ari&dante for the first time i was 14. on every other page the word "relatable" was written down. it scared me how much i felt like ari. i was sad for myself and ari and everyone else.

now i'm the same age as ari in the beginning of the book. i still feel so understood by the characters. i'm not sad anymore, i'm fucking angry that no one noticed me falling apart. i was 12, 13, 14, crying myself to sleep every night. i was a wreck and all they said was "what wonderful grades, she must be a genius". i'm angry for every version of myself that had to and will have to escape to fictional worlds to feel understood. heard. loved.
