The internet is obsessed with wanting to learn languages fast. I get it. We want everything fast. Instant gratification. But languages don't always work like that...at least not for the majority of us. Why not? Because 9 times out of 10, people don't do the three things I'm sharing with you in this weeks video. So if there's one piece of advice to learn languages better this week - it's to do those three things for yourself! Be the 1 in 10. Then spread the word so less people are left struggling with bad language advice making them feel like they're the problem. 🫣 🎥 Watch the video here to learn what's really worth knowing about how to learn languages fast:

What if there was just one thing that made language learning easier every time? It's not knowing more words, it's not making more time to study...it's way simpler than that. Find out in this week's video:

# Why Trusting Your Language Gut Changes Everything Have you ever booked a language lesson or bought another textbook, hoping this would be the key to fluency...just to feel stuck again? If you’ve found yourself doubting your choices or chasing quick-fix language plans, you’re not alone. The real breakthrough in language learning often comes from something far simpler and deeper: trusting your language gut. This one skill makes language learning easier every time because it empowers you to make decisions, adapt, and keep moving forward with confidence. ## What Does It Mean to Trust Your Language Gut? Trusting your language gut goes beyond having an instinct for picking the right word. It’s about making choices for your language journey - choosing what to study, how to practice, and which resources will serve you best. When you learn to trust yourself in these moments, you stop giving all the authority to teachers, textbooks, or step-by-step programs. Instead, you begin to develop the confidence and resilience you need to learn a language on your own terms. ### More Than Just Words: Applying Your Gut Instinct Your language gut isn’t just about guessing vocabulary. It’s about sensing the mood of a conversation - knowing when to push ahead or when to step back. It helps you read people’s emotions and adapt your communication style, even if your language skills aren’t advanced. For instance, if you sense someone is calm, you might feel more at ease sharing your basic knowledge, trusting that they’ll be patient with you. ## The Freedom of Trust: How This Skill Gives You “Free” Language Building trust in your language gut liberates you from memorizing every single rule or word before speaking. Sometimes, you’ll piece together phrases from what you know - maybe guessing that “unfun” could work for “boring” even if it isn’t a standard word. This kind of playful risk-taking helps you acquire new vocabulary and grammar through experience, rather than just rote exercises. The willingness to try, even when you’re unsure, leads to real growth. ### Knowing Yourself Makes Learning Smoother Language learning isn’t just about discovering new words; it’s about uncovering what methods work best for you. When you understand your preferences - what lessons you enjoy, when you’re most focused, or which materials inspire you - it becomes easier to make choices without second-guessing. You spend less time worrying about whether you’ve picked the “perfect” resource and more time actually learning. ## Confidence Grows from Self-Trust When you finally let go of endless self-doubt, something powerful happens: your confidence soars. Deciding for yourself - choosing your lessons, books, or practice schedule - makes you less reliant on others’ opinions. For example, you might spend years getting comfortable with one language if you always defer to others’ guidance, but develop confidence in just a few hours when you start calling the shots and trusting your decisions. ### Staying Calm and Handling the “Brick Wall” Everyone knows that feeling of panic when you don’t understand a word in conversation - the dreaded “brick wall.” Without self-trust, it’s easy to get stuck and tune out. But when you trust your language gut, you can pause, stay calm, and remember that you’ll eventually pick up the thread. This helps you recover more quickly from challenging moments and turn potential setbacks into learning opportunities. ## Reducing Mental Overload by Trusting Yourself Overwhelm and fatigue are common reasons learners give up. Whether it’s choosing among countless resources or trying to keep up in a fast-moving conversation, second-guessing yourself leads to mental overload. Trusting your language gut makes decision-making easier - you give yourself space to breathe and learn at your pace. Thinking of your inner world as a calm park rather than a noisy construction site makes the entire process less stressful. ### The Three Stages of Speaking: Where Trust Plays a Role Every time you speak, you go through three stages: figuring out what to say (conceptualization), deciding how to say it (formulation), and actually saying it (articulation). Trusting your instincts at every step smooths the process and relieves pressure. Instead of getting bogged down by perfectionism, you can focus on communicating effectively - and enjoying the journey. ## How to Strengthen Your Language Gut Building this self-trust is a practice, not a one-time decision. You can develop it by reflecting on what works for you, experimenting with new approaches, and celebrating small wins. Consider joining communities or programs focused on fostering this skill, where you get structured support to tune into your instincts and refine your decision-making abilities no matter your language level. ## Key Takeaway: This One Skill Makes Language Learning Easier Every Time Trusting your language gut consistently makes language learning easier every time by helping you make the right choices, reduce overwhelm, and grow your confidence - no matter where you are in your journey. The more you practice listening to yourself and letting go of constant self-doubt, the more enjoyable and successful your language learning experience will be. ## Ready to Level Up Your Language Learning? If you’re ready to make your language journey smoother and more rewarding, start by focusing on this essential skill. Reflect on what helps you feel confident, try new things fearlessly, and give yourself permission to trust your decisions. I added the Trust Your Language Gut Experience to Language Life to make this step easier than ever. In Language Life, you get the supportive combination of self-study curriculum, human feedback & support, and regular practice. So you're not left alone and can focus more time on improving how you learn languages without getting stuck. Want some support getting started to make it easy? Join Language Life to get access to the Trust Your Language Gut Experience.

Do you know the feeling when you trust a language teacher to figure out your schedule more than you trust yourself? When you follow the order of lessons in a coursebook to the letter because you don't trust yourself to catch up if you miss a bit? All of that means you might not trust your language gut. This week's video sees me explain what it truly means to trust your language gut (& might just explain why I bang on about it so much!) Watch here: https://youtu.be/GLrd8koMINg

Trust your language gut. You don’t need to wait until you're fluent to start speaking. You don’t need another app or another textbook to finally get results. What you _do_ need? - Consistency - Curiosity - Confidence in your own path Becoming your own teacher is a mindset shift—but it's the one that makes all the difference. So if you've been stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure where to go next with your language learning... Start by asking: 🧠 What _would_ I do if I fully trusted my language gut?

So we have a little lake in front of our home and lately it’s been kinda busy as people have dusted off their bikes and trainers to make the most of our “one time outside a day for exercise” (Sidenote: I’m really intrigued to see the long term effects of how we’ll exercise as a nation!) 🤗 So I’ve had to take myself a little beyond there for my social distancing walk! No one else seems to know about this bridleway - shh! 🤫 😉 How are you getting on? Are you still allowed outside where you are? #wedoisolation https://ift.tt/2y8Uupv

So following your feedback yesterday when I threw this idea out on my Stories, we’ll kick off these free daily lessons for children with Spanish! 👍 They’ll be hosted live on my YouTube channel and you’ll be able to catch up after if you can’t join live. What I’m thinking is we’ll have some fun with one language Mon-Thurs then vote across the week for which language to discover on Friday! My aim here isn’t to get your child fluent, it’s to spark a little inspiration through some fun, not too “schooly” activities that may lead to more curiosity for different languages, places and people. 💛 Just because we’re all staying at home doesn’t mean we close the door to discovering about others! 🤗 More details on the top link in my bio link but this is pretty much all you need to know - subscribe on YouTube, head there at 10am U.K. time from Monday and join the free classes! 🥳 Please share with parents, friends and family you know who will find this helpful! See you there? #wedolanguages https://ift.tt/2xl8ts4

Recorded a podcast for #thefluentshow today with @kerstin_fluent about our favourite books about language and we got talking about how my library closed this week! 😱 Which means I now have no excuse to work my way through my pile of “read and pass on” books at this time! 🙃 That’s the first thing I enjoyed today - recording the podcast. 2️⃣ I had a quick Skype chat with someone we were due to meet in a couple of weeks in the Isle of Man and starting Language Stories filming. Alas, we’ve postponed Language Stories season 3 to next year (you know, because 😷), but it was still great to speak a litttle Gaelg with someone in real time for the first time ever! 3️⃣ I typically watch English stuff with my lunch and right now it’s Great Pottery Throw Down, which my sister introduced me to and Oh Me, Oh My...the innuendos and endless! 😂 I’ve also been working hard to open up some Live Support Calls for teachers next week - come and ask your questions about teaching languages online! I’ve updated the “How I can help teachers right now” link in my bio link so you can find out more there. 👍 What have you enjoyed today? #wedolanguages https://ift.tt/398rOtJ

This photo's from a few years ago. I'd just written a blog post called "12 Top Tips: How to Teach Languages On Skype" or something similar. I asked my mum to come and take some photos I could use for the post in the garden. I jumped a bit, and somehow we got this mid-air shot. Pretty proud. Anyway, that's not what this is about. Rather, it's about how that one blog article led to this whole other angle of discovery + connection for me - not just to work with language learners, but also online language teachers. And I'm STILL jumping in the air because it's SO MUCH FUN. After countless emails asking about teaching online, I knew I needed to do something. That's why the Online Teaching Starter Kit exists. To help YOU see clearly + go further with support from me and a whole host of other online teachers on the course just like you. Want to learn more? Ready to join + start jumping in the air for yourself? 🙃 Check the link in my bio to join now! #teachlanguagesonline⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #teachandtravel #teachersofinsta #teachergram #iteach #teacherspayteachers #ukteachers #englishteacher #onlineteacher #eslteacher #spanishteacher #happyteacher #tesol #teachingenglish #englishteacher #onlineteaching #onlineeducation #digitalbusiness #teachable #creativeentrepreneurs #laptoplifestyleliving #workanywhere #workhardanywhere #femtrepreneur #edchat #languagestudent #languages #learnlanguages #languageschool #foreignlanguage https://ift.tt/3aL9U1b

When I first started teaching languages online, I was just excited that there was another way to give the 1:1 lessons I'd been teaching. There was quite literally a whole world out there, way beyond the "as the crow flies" radius that the tutor website let me choose as how far I was willing to travel for each student. My first online students were from China, Brazil and the USA. It was so cool to me that I could teach these people, regardless of where we both were when it was time for their lesson. It totally opened up the potential to me of what Lindsay Does Languages could become. Then something else happened. As we got ready to move to a new town too far from my current students (further than the crow would fly, or I would drive), I started Googling how else I could teach languages online. Wow. There's so much opportunity out there. Don't let that go to waste. Come + join me this Friday 13th March (eek, Friday 13th? I know right...) at 1pm UK time. I'll be sharing the 4 most important ways to teach languages online beyond 1:1 lessons. Prepare for your world to expand yet again! 😉 #teachlanguagesonline ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #learninglanguages #foreignlanguages #languagestudy #polyglot #learnlanguages #languagelover #languages #idiomas #inglesfacil #studytime #studytips #studystudystudy #studycommunity #studyspo #studyspiration #studywithme #study_time #studyhard #learnfrench #learnspanish #learnenglish #learngerman #learnitalian #grammar #englishlearning #englishlanguage #englishtips #eslteacher #teachonline https://ift.tt/2IzccEu

Gonzo's waking up good and proper now after her sleepy wintertime! Still not quite happy to pose for photos yet though... 😕 Anyway, she's here to remind you that today's the last day to get that extra bonus when you join the Online Teaching Starter Kit. That's probably why she looks slightly miffed here. She's like "Hmm...steal my owner for an hour if you must. I'll send you your tickle time theft fine in the post." What can you do?! 🙃Check the link in my bio if you're ready to join. #teachlanguagesonline ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #teachandtravel #teachersofinsta #teachergram #iteach #teacherspayteachers #ukteachers #englishteacher #onlineteacher #eslteacher #spanishteacher #happyteacher #tesol #teachingenglish #englishteacher #onlineteaching #onlineeducation #digitalbusiness #teachable #creativeentrepreneurs #laptoplifestyleliving #workanywhere #workhardanywhere #femtrepreneur #edchat #languagestudent #languages #learnlanguages #languageschool #foreignlanguage https://ift.tt/3cEKRyD

It's been two years since the first Women In Language event (for those asking, yes it's happening this year, just later because we've all been waaaay too busy with colliding commitments this time round!) That also means it's been two years since we went to Machu Picchu. 🇵🇪 We went just days before Women in Language happened, I got really sick (altitude isn't my amigo), we had to walk 2 hours in the rain, the food on our trip was rubbish, and then we finally arrived. Majestic? Magical? Memorable? Well, not really, no, it was misty and we couldn't see a thing. 🙃 That said, as the day went on, it proved itself worth the journey. And that's kinda my point. There were times on our way to Machu Picchu (multiple times!) when we asked ourselves if it was really worth it, when we were ready to be like "Nah, leave it mate, we'll wait for the bus back to Cusco." And there'll be moments like that too as you start teaching online. Times when the tech doesn't do what you want, when one tiny comment can throw you sideways for a whole day (or week), when you're wondering if you should just give up, turn around and go back. Don't. Keep climbing. After some direction to help take you through it all step-by-step? The Online Teaching Starter Kit is available right now with some pretty cool bonuses (one is a live 1:1 call with me - that one's only available when you join this weekend!). 😱 See that rope on the left side? Yeah, that's me. Helping you climb. 👍 Learn more + enroll now at the link in my bio. Have you seen today's video + blog? I'm walking you through how to use Zoom to teach languages online. In the past few years it's become pretty much where I do 90% of my live calls now. And there's soooo many great features just screaming out "Use me in your online language lessons!" 😂 You can watch the video on YouTube + read the blog on lindsaydoeslanguages.com.
