Wild Calamity

This is the first of hopefully many oneshots. The first meeting of Calamity and Wild. This is pure self-indulgence. My boys deserve happiness.

Link contemplated the man sleeping across the room.

He hadn’t been surprised when Purah and Robbie managed to fix Terrako, he knew they could do it, but what had been surprising was Terrako whirring to life and immediately opening a wormhole. He, Zelda, Impa, and the two Sheikah scientists carefully backed away from the wormhole in anticipation. Link had wondered if the future champions, Sidon, Teba, Riju and Yunobo, would come through, like last time.

It wasn’t the champions.

No, instead, a man that looked very similar to Link himself came through.

There were a few key differences, however.

Other Link’s hair was longer than his own, and untied and unruly. He was also covered in scars. They stretched across his face and under his shirt, with possibly more scars covered up.

His arm was the most concerning.

Charcoal black with pale nails longer than his other hand. Odd looking metal was wrapped around the arm and disappeared into his sleeve. The same metal was wrapped around each finger like a ring.

Link had known that in the time the future champions hailed from, that he, Zelda, and his champions had all lost against the Calamity and let it lay waste to Hyrule for a century, but he never truly stopped to think what that had meant for him.

That meant that he had been killed in the battle against the calamity, or at the very least, severely wounded. And he could see how. He had come very close to losing his life many times in the fight against the calamity and before. The man laying on the couch across from him had seen many lost battles, many more than he himself had.

Was this what would have become of him, had the future champions not joined the fight? Would he have that many scars? Would he-

“You’re staring.”

Link startled. He hadn’t even known the other was awake, he was so still.

He recovered quickly and controlled his expression. “I have a lot of questions.” He replied.

Other Link chuckled quietly before sitting up to face him. “I thought so. I would, too. Ask away.”

“Are you from the same time as the future champions?” If so, that would lead to a whole new set of questions.

“You’re talking about Teba, Riju, Yunobo and Sidon? Yes, I am.” Link nodded. Questions swirled through his mind.

“How? They’re from a hundred years in the future.” Other Link looked like he had swallowed something sour before sighing.

“In the initial battle against the Calamity, we were caught completely off-guard. We were nowhere near prepared enough to fight it. It took over all of our defenses, the Guardians, the Divine Beasts, everything. We had no way to fight them, or prepare to. They killed everyone in the castle, most of the inhabitants of Castle Town and nearby villages, and the champions. I tried to find somewhere safe to hide so Zelda and I could make a plan, or just survive. Eventually, we got cornered by Guardians at Fort Hateno when trying to flee there. I managed to destroy about half of them before Zelda’s powers awakened and I succumbed to my injuries.” He gestured to his face, “Zelda ordered for me to be taken to the Shrine of Resurrection on the Great Plateau, where I stayed for a century healing while Zelda went to the castle to hold off the Calamity.”

Link was stunned. He didn’t know what he was expecting to hear, time travel, maybe, but it wasn’t him dying. Link had heard of the Shrine of Resurrection from Zelda, Purah and Robbie, but it hadn’t been used as no one was quite sure what happened while in healing. There were a few theories, and possible side-effects, but the one Link was the most concerned about was the one possible effect that stopped people from testing it.

“One of the possible side effects of the shrine is memory loss.” Link paused, trying to word his question, but the words seemed to catch in his throat. Thankfully, he didn’t need to say anything else, Other Link catching on to his unspoken question.

“Yes. I lost all of my memories, they’ve been coming back slowly but I don’t think I’ll ever have all of them back. I have none of my early childhood, or my family. I found a picture of my family in my room in the castle, but I don’t even know their names. I know my father was a knight, but that’s it. Most of my memories are from when I was Zelda’s knight.”

None of my early childhood, or my family.

I don’t even know their names.

Link felt sick. This could have been him, living in a world that moved on without him, with friends and family dead.

Friends and family he didn't remember.

That wouldn’t do.

Link stood up and gestured for Other Link to do the same. He led them out of the room and down a hallway.

“Where are we going?”

Link paused for a second, second-guessing his decision before turning to Other Link. “Llyra, our sister, is in school at the moment, and isn’t in the castle. Our father is. Do you want to meet him?”

Link saw an array of emotions pass across the other’s face before settling on an expression that looked nervous and oddly vulnerable.

“Would he want to? I’m not the same person I was before everything. I’m not you anymore. What if he expects me to be like you? I don’t know how to be the person I used to be.” Other Link's voice wavered slightly.

Link nodded confidently. “He’s a good man, and loves his family. Regardless of if you’re not me, you’re his son, even if you don’t remember.”

Other Link hesitated for a few moments longer before seeming to come to a decision. “Lead the way, Link.”

Link gave the other a small smile before turning and continuing to walk. He could sense the nerves rolling off his lookalike in waves. He saw the man pull his hood up to cover most of his face as he fiddled with the edges of the fabric. However, he walked in time with Link, not falling out of pace.

Finally, Link made it to the door to his father’s chambers. As a captain of the Royal Guard, he had his own room separate from the rest of the knights, much like Link did, as the princess’ royal knight. He hesitated a beat before knocking on the door.

“Link? What’s up? Is there something you need?” His father towered over the two Links, both of them only reaching his shoulder, but his face was kind, and his voice full of love. His father looked to his companion, who was hovering behind him slightly. “Who’s this?”

Link took a breath before looking in his father’s eyes. “Dad, there is someone I would like you to meet.”

Also, Link’s family is based on this image. This is also the photo Wild has of his family. I also headcanon her to be the same age as Aryll (from Wind Waker) and Colin (from Twilight Princess)
