just a heads up to my fellow writers out there that AO3 is currently fighting off bots commenting on people’s works to tell them that AO3 will delete their fics “due to the works being deprecated”, and the deletion will affect their accounts unless the authors delete the fics themselves first. IT IS A SCAM. AO3 will NOT delete your works. please do NOT fall for these bots!
I’ve been told the reason why these bots are doing this is due to copyright infringement issue where they’re trying to steal your works (possibly to train AI but this is just a guess) ‼️‼️‼️and once you deleted your fics, it will be either very difficult or impossible for you to claim ownership of your own fics when they were already deleted.‼️‼️‼️
a reminder that AO3 will never contact you through your comments section (in case they claim to be one of the moderators). AO3 will only contact you through your email address which you use to register your account, and it will be from AO3’s official handle. not some sketchy ass @
so if you get a comment telling you you should “delete your works to protect your account because AO3 is doing blah blah blah” report that comment. don’t delete your works.
PLEASE DO NOT FALL FOR THESE SCAM.
AO3 IS NOT DELETING WORKS.
DO NOT DELETE YOUR WORKS JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE CLAIMS THEY KNOW SOMETHING.

"Why didn't they just communicate?? They're so stupid!" Have you considered that communicating with someone you love and value and don't want to hurt is scary and that vulnerability takes practice and that perfect characters with perfect words make the most boring stories of all

It's such an amazing feeling when someone picks up on something in your writing that you 100% intended but didn't think people would notice. Like, YES!! My writing properly conveyed the thing it was supposed to!!! You are so awesome for noticing that!!! I am so awesome for writing that!!! I feel so good about my story now!!!!

yeah I think it's time I can let this one out of containment since I wrote it last spring. The words used for this are all cut and pasted by the Wikipedia articles for (iirc) decomposition, death, and grief. I think. It's been a while

Did I daydream this, or was there a website for writers with like. A ridiculous quantity of descriptive aid. Like I remember clicking on " inside a cinema " or something like that. Then, BAM. Here's a list of smell and sounds. I can't remember it for the life of me, but if someone else can, help a bitch out <3

I've seen a lot of fics disappear from my bookmarks, some 10+ years old, because they were added to an unrevealed collection. It makes me wonder if people realize what your fic being added to a collection actually means and if the authors approved it automatically without realizing what would happen.
If someone adds your fic to their collection, they can hide it! They can mark the collection as unrevealed and your fic will be unreadable to anyone other than them! If you're writing works for a surprise event, like a Secret Santa, this is really nice.
But if you're just writing and someone adds your fic to a collection for their own personal use and marks it as unrevealed, that. . . really sucks.

I bookmarked this fic in 2017, almost 5 years ago. Knowing me, the fic itself was probably at least a couple years old at the time I bookmarked it.
This is a 5+ year old fic that is completely inaccessible now because it was added to a collection that, as far as I can tell, is literally just for the collection owner's own reference. There's almost 30 fics in the collection, all of them unrevealed.
Please don't blindly accept collection requests and if your works ARE in a collection, make sure that they aren't being hidden without your knowledge or consent.

So it looks like NaNoWriMo are happy to have AI as part of their community. Miss me with that bullshit. Generative artificial intelligence is an active threat to creativity and the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of people in creative fields.
Please signal boost this so writers can make an informed choice about whether to continue to take part in such a community.

i loveeeeeee nonlinear storytelling. show me where we are. now show me how we got here. the end before the beginning. show me how it was inevitable or how many chances we had to change things(nothing was ever going to change). let's meet in the middle as all the puzzle pieces slide into place hell yeah that's the good shit.
#reblog#YEAAAAH I LOVE DOING THIS#I've only shared MOST of my nonlinear stories with friends#but sometimes it just MAKES SENSE to tell things non-chronologically#I know it's not 'traditional' but sometimes I feel like it really helps me drive certain themes home#and also gives the reader some agency to come to their own conclusions about something I want to focus on in the story

August Writing Challenge
Hello, my fellow writers. I have created this writing challenge with scenario based prompts to help you write some scenes for your characters. Whether you are working on a novel or fanfiction or have some characters in your head that you don't know what to do with - hopefully this list will help you write some scenes and get to know your characters a little better. There are thirty prompts for the thirty days of August, a mix of angst, hurt/comfort and happy prompts for all types of characters so hopefully they will give you some inspiration.
Feel free to share your writing, a snippet of it or just let me know how you're getting on by tagging me or using the hashtag 'writewithbeth'. I'd love to create a little cozy summer writing community.
Loyalty - write a scene where your character shows loyalty or someone is loyal to them. Alternatively, write a scene where someone betrays their trust. How do they react?
Reconcile - write a scene where two characters make up after an argument. It could be a huge fight or it could be over something silly. Maybe a game of monopoly gets a bit heated. But they make up, how does that conversation go? Who apologises? Where do they go from here?
Baking - write a scene where your character(s) are baking. Who are they baking for? Why are they baking? Are they good at it? Is something burning?
Heartbreak - write a scene where your character gets their heart broken or maybe breaks someone else’s heart. It could be romantic or platonic. What emotions are they going through? How will they get over this pain?
Haunted - write a scene where a character thinks about something they are haunted by. Is it something from their past? Do they feel guilty about something? Do they regret something? Is this something they've been carrying with them for a long time? Can anything make them feel better about it?
Photograph - write a scene where a character finds a photograph of another character from a time before they knew each other. How do they feel about it? How does the person look in the picture? What questions does it lead to?
Blizzard - write about your character being caught in a blizzard. Where do they go? Who do they turn to? Are they alone? Do they have safe space to get to? Do they end up snowed in with someone?
Lazy days - write about your character having a slow lazy day. Who are they spending that day with? What’s their routine? Will they make tea and watch the sun rise? Will they go for a walk? What does having a lazy day feel like for them? Is it something they’ve been able to do before?
Secrets - write about your character sharing a secret with someone. What’s the one thing they think the other person should know? Will it change how they think of one another? Will it explain everything?
Comfort - write a scene about your character needing comfort. Who would they go to for it? Can they ask for it? Do they like hugs? Or do they just need someone to tell them everything will be okay?
Midnight - write a scene where two characters meet in the middle of the night, the meeting is unplanned, they both can’t sleep and just happen to find themselves in the same place. What are they talking about? What led them there? Perhaps they’re two characters that don’t even know each other yet?
Lock in - write about your character(s) getting locked in somewhere. Are they in danger? Did someone trap them? Are they alone? Are they scared? And how do they get out?
Used - write a scene where your character realises they’ve been used. Who by? Are they angry? Are they hurt? Will they forgive or seek revenge?
Homecoming - write a scene where your character returns home after being away for some time. Are they welcomed home with open arms? Who’s waiting for them? What’s changed?
Anti-hero - write a scene where your character makes a mistake or does something they know will hurt or upset people they care about. Did they do it to hurt them? Did it happen completely by accident? Will they be able to come back from it?
One bed - (because who doesn’t love this trope) write a scene where for whatever reason there is only one bed and you have two characters. Do they share? Does one take the floor? Do they rock paper scissors to see who has to take the uncomfy looking chair or do they go top and tails but accidentally kick the other in the face?
Villain - your character comes face to face with the villain, it’s just the two of them, how does the conversation go? Is there tension? Are they stalling for time because they’re in danger? Or has the villain been defeated and your hero is trying to work out what to do next? Will they hate them? Forgive them?
Bad day - write a scene where your character is having a really bad day. Just as they are at breaking point, someone turns up to make it all better. Who is it and what do they do?
letter - write a scene where your character receives a letter. The letter changes everything. Who is it from and what are they saying? Is it good or bad?
Sick - write a scene where your character is sick, whether that be a cold, flu, something serious. Or maybe they’re injured. Who comes take care of them? Do they like being taken care of?
Love confession - write a scene where your character says ‘I love you’. This could be romantic or platonic if you want. How does the other person react? Is it a happy conversation or does everything come crashing down. Was the confession planned or do they just come out with it?
Nightmare - write a scene where your character is having a terrible nightmare, they see their worst fears and wake up in a state. Are they alone? Does someone come to comfort them? Do they immediately ring someone to talk to them?
Peace - write a scene where your character feels at peace. Are they in a certain place or with certain people? What gives them the feeling of peace? Have they managed to achieve whatever they’ve been fighting for?
Grief - write a scene where your character loses someone. Grief hits them hard. Are they angry or sad? Are they howling in pain from their loss? Are they isolating themselves?
Family - write a scene where your character is with their family. Do they get along with their family? If not, why. If they do, is their family their safe space? Who are they closest to? Is it a found family as opposed to blood related?
Amnesia - one of your character hits their head and gets amnesia. They forget almost everything about themselves. Do they remember the other character? Or have they forgotten them too? And how does this affect them?
Guilt - write a scene where your character fails at something which results in something bad happening to someone they care about. How do they handle the guilt that comes with it? Do people blame them for it?
Kiss - write a scene where two characters kiss. Is it sudden? Have they liked each other a while? Is it driven by something else? A ‘couldn’t think of another way to shut you up’ kind of situation? Is it a goodbye kiss? Is this how it ends? Or is this only the beginning.
Goodbye - write a scene where your character has to say goodbye to someone that they care a lot about. They don’t know when they’ll see each other again or if they even will see each other again. How does that conversation go?
A team - write a scene where your character realises that someone is on their side. How do they feel? Is it someone they didn’t expect to be on their side? Are they used to being alone so it’s a new feeling?
Happy writing, everyone. I look forward to seeing what you create!

hello character who is desperate to be a good person; i want to play a game. in front of you is the one person you will never be able to save. you have the rest of your life to make peace with this. there are no defined repercussions if you fail, but we both know you're going to attempt to win regardless. your time starts now
