It’s hard to believe that we are already in December. These past few months have flown yet have seemed forever long (time is funny like that). Sorry we haven’t posted recently! Enjoy these quick stocking stuffer ideas for your little reader. As we approach the New Year, I couldn’t be more excited! Bring on 2021! Â

Quick lit-tip: Coach your sweet writer. Watch the VIDEO linked above.
We have this crazy opportunity of being way more involved in our children’s schooling (for all the good and bad it shall bring). We can help coach our sweet kiddo’s in their writing by using these four guiding lenses:
*Ideas
*Organization
*Author’s Craft
*Conventions
Lean into your child as a writer and help them grow with a focused teaching point when working with them at home during these crazy times! Select one focus area that day or couple of days to move them forward.
Tip: If your child is a reluctant writer, they often are struggling with IDEAS! Have you heard, “I don’t know what to write about?” Help coach them at coming up with ideas and see if that helps! Also, encourage any inventive spelling (phonetic spelling) in our youngest writers and celebrate their efforts!

Quick lit-tip: You read a page, your child reads a page, you read a page, they read a page...
Use this partner-reading to model:
*Intonation and inflection
*Reading pace to build fluency
*Word solving strategies
*Internal thinking to build deeper level comprehension
This quick-tip is a favorite that I’ve used countless times with my girls! Hope it helps!

Writing tip:Â Talk to your child like a writer
*Stories are all around us.
*When your child is talking about an event they’ve experienced with emotion, either with a lot of excitement, being afraid, feeling brave, or just something plain funny, remind them that it would make for a great story.
*Help your child recognize that these events are seeds of stories waiting to take life.Â
*Remember when your child talks about what they were thinking or feeling, that adds dimension to their story (also known as internal thinking or a “thought shot”). Â
*Kids often have a hard time coming up with ideas to write about. If you help plant seeds to stories, this may help your child with their “writer’s block” come fall.
*We’d love to hear what story ideas your children have from their lives!
*Happy writing y’all!
