I'd bought a small chalkboard months ago and it's laid unused for a long time. Chalkboard is a tricky medium to work with. The thickness of the chalk makes it hard to know your exact line placement, it pushes itself around and streaks, and it's hard to get it to erase cleanly.

But it was fun to work on a bit of Pokemon themed Halloween decor, regardless. Pumpkaboo and Gourgeist are really good 'mons.

Before this, I never really appreciated how good Deoxys is as a perfect spiritual successor to Mewtwo. No other 'Mon has really come close, thematically or design wise. It's very weird, very mysterious, literally alien, and it has this sense of menace and hits on that same uncanniness that Mewtwo has for being human-like, but also very much inhuman.

I just think they're neat.

I've been in an awful art sinkhole for the past however many months, so I'm going to try (try) to make one small animation for every day in February. I probably can't manage much more than a second a day, but that's still pretty good practice. Here's day 1! This one came out with a few issues, but for being rusty, I feel happy with it overall. It's all about improving.

The Witch's Apprentices

Two boys from a small forest village. The local wisewoman, rumored to have once been one of the Bear-Witches, sees potential in them and takes them under her wing to learn the secrets of the wood. Hatchet is taught of the flora and their spirits, while Fife is taught of the fauna, though both work in tandem, so that they might understand the other's studies and how they may interact with one another. They keep charms on their person to ward off evils and communicate their intentions to the spirits they share these woods with, and are to grow into both hunters and protectors, the spiritual ambassadors of their village. They have a lot of growing to do before they are ready for that role, however.
