You have me feeling a lot of feelings in 'a mother's instincts', especially the dream at the end of chapter 2, with his subconscious desires, as well as him getting a doll that reminds him of someone... Though I worry that maria in this universe may get initially get a bad rep (esp if only a few minor bits of his memories come back) that it was a robotnik that took him in. I can imagine at this point in time many would just assume the worst ('of course it was a robotnik') only for the rest of his memories to come back much later, and remember his sister :(

I'm excited to see how you plan to connect his backstory to Boom, especially since the team never really planned to do his backstory unless you count the 'surfboard maria story' xD

I'm so glad to hear you like it! It's been a lot of fun to work on, and I'm excited to share more of it with everyone. The dream sequence was so much fun to work on, I'm a huge sucker for those kinds of scenes in fics and stories, both as a way to give context via traumatic memories (like what I did in Nightmare) and showing what a character is subconsciously thinking regarding a situation/the people they're surrounded by (like in this fic)!

You don't have to worry about Maria; I don't think I have it in me to make her be outright villainous (even when Shadow's barely remembering her), although I have hinted at her being a bit manipulative as a child in other fics, but I mean, she's a child, she's not perfect, and I low-key wish more people would write her like that. Let her be flawed! Anyways yeah, my rambling aside, I'm still figuring a few things out backstory-wise, but I can definitely say that Maria had no part in hurting Shadow. Hell, even the researchers and Gerald may not have been that evil toward him, but a certain biological father that just so happens to be an alien warlord... >:3c I've got some interesting ideas, and considering Boom!Shadow's rather... disagreeable personality and demeanor, I think him having way stronger connections to the Black Arms in this setting could make a lot of sense! Still workshopping it tho 😅

I freaking LOVE the potential of Boom!Shadow so much because he honestly is such a blank canvas compared to every other iteration of him, it makes it fun to come up with a backstory for him that has a lot of elements from canon stuff. (I also have a soft spot for surfer dude!Shadow and good lord do I wish we'd seen some storyboards or written lines from what the writers originally planned for that shit, I need to know what a little weirdo he was gonna be!)

Found your stories on A03, I really love how you explore a hidden vulnerable side for shadow (especially in the prince shadow stories). I'm curious if you've considered a story with a scenario where Maria sees shadow slip into a little space and give him the comfort that he secretly wants. I just love the protective big sister maria and little brother shadow dynamic.

I'm so glad you like my stories; it's low-key my mission to make as much hurt/comfort Shadow stuff as I can, so I'm happy to see that it's going well.

Regarding your prompt, I think I'm accidentally doing that in the next part of the "Most Regressed of Hedgehogs" series?? I plan on finally showing the flashback of when Shadow played House with Maria and Abe, with it hinting at him developing his littlespace as a coping mechanism, seeing as it would be associated with a positive experience during his time with Maria (and even Abe to some degree, giving him more of a reason to stay near him despite their clashes).

I'm also a huge sucker for Ark Siblings (specifically for Shadow being younger) since it reminds me a lot of the bonding moments I've had with my older sister! I'm gonna do my best not to give too much away, since I want to stay relatively anonymous with this account/these stories, but the two of us are very close and she honestly has that kindhearted vibe you'd associate with Maria, so I've got a lot of experience with the dynamic.

At the start of Little Prince Shadow series, shadow mentions being afraid that his statues of Maria will be torn down. Will Sonic and Sally really do something like that since the statues are now associated with shadow's tyrannical rule, or will they be kept up since she's still considered a symbol of worship at this point and try to simply alter how she's associated. If I'm remembering the comic right, in the throne room there was also a statue of maria, is it still there with sonic back?

Although tearing down the statues would probably be the "stronger" move to make, I don't think Sonic and Sally would do that, both to preserve the peace and keep Shadow from going apeshit if he were to find out about it.

It hasn't been touched on yet, and I dunno if it even will be, but I think the new monarchy would be pushing for a lot more religious freedom under their rule, encouraging everyone to make their own decisions on who/what to worship. Whether they like it or not though, Maria is a cornerstone of a lot of religious practices in their kingdom, especially the most "popular" religion of worshiping Gaia, and while they will never worship her like their people do, they'll still pay homage to her during special occasions (Shadow's baptism/coronation being a good example).

Didn't remember the Maria statue in the throne room, whoops. I think they'd keep it there to appease Shadow, as well as still support their subjects who practice the religion.

Thanks for the question! I've made a few references to Maria's status as a sort of "Joan of Arc" figure under Shadow's rule (which is especially considering the whole Ark parallel that I totally didn't do on accident 😅), but I haven't fully considered its affect on the political landscape until now.
