Lao Re’s meaning in Teochew is ‘hilarious’. During the event of Lao Re, Teochew people will worship god of land because they are very worship for land. Hence, it is cause legend of god of land for Teochew, it also has about thousand years ion history. From the picture, it is located in Teochew, China, they are celebrating Lao Re together, the atmosphere is very hilarious.

Traditional Teochew Wedding Custom

Most of the step in prepare the traditional Teochew wedding is similar to the traditional Hokkien wedding. The different place between them is in the step of prepare the Betrothal gift.  The foremost Teochew betrothal gift is the sì diǎnjīn, four pieces of jewelry including a gold necklace, a pendant, a pair of earrings and a bangle selected by a groom's mother and presented to the bride during the tea ceremony. Since sì diǎnjīn is also the name of a traditional Chinese architectural style, a four-pointed curved roof found in traditional homes, the jewelry symbolizes a blissful union in a secure home.

The Teochew also give flaky pastries similar to hopia, as well as peanut candies.If the bride's grandmother is still alive, pastries called laoma gao are offered to her.

In the traditional Cantonese wedding, the most important things are the Betrothal Package and the Returning Gift. Betrothal Package is given by the groom to the bride’s family one or two weeks before the actual wedding day and the Returning Gift is the gift that bride’s family will “return” to the groom’s family.

Ngoh Hiang is also known as five-spice meat roll, it always a favourite during Chinese New Year.  It is a food which is easy to prepare. The ingredients need to be prepared are prawns, minced pork, fatty pork, water chestnuts, carrot, five-spice powder, Chinese wine, sheet bean curd skin and some other seasoning. First step is mix all the ingredient together. After that, lay out bean curd skin and wipe it clean. Spread meat filling along an outer edge and roll up tightly into sausages. Next step is steam the roll for five minutes. Then, it can fry until golden. It is a food which is popular for all generation.

Teochew cuisine has been known as heathier food because it is light handed on seasonings with minimal use of oil. It always focusses on the freshness of the ingredient. Normally, they will use the method of poaching, steaming and braising to cook their food.

Teochew
The originated of Teochew is from the Chaosan province in China, the main cities is Shantou. Teochews arrived in Johor in 19th century. The main job of them are plant pepper and Gambier. In Johor, Teochews are distributed in Pontian, Muar, and Batu Pahat. In present day, Teochew is facing the problem of less spoken Teochew dialect among the younger generations.

There are four types of roles: Sang, Daan, Zing, and Cau. Cantonese opera early clothing is mainly imitated the Ming Dynasty dress style.

    Chu Hua Yuan(出花园) is a ceremony for 15years old of teenage during the seventh day of the seventh lunar month which is auspicious day. And, Chu Hua Yuan is meaning ‘out of garden’, it is a ceremony for coming of age and is to determine child turn to teenage, they are growing up without playing in garden, it also is determining a growth process. On the day, they will worship the god of ‘Gong Mu Po’ who is god in charge to protect children live and health. Parents will prepare a lot of dish to their children. Cantonese is the second largest Chinese subgroup in Malaysia. The originated of Cantonese is from the Guangdong province in China, the main cities are Guangzhou and Guangxi. In Mandarin, it always referred “gwong dung yan” as “guang dong ren”. The main job of them are tin mines. In present day, the Cantonese are approximately 80% living in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya, and Ipoh.

1. Hainanese chicken rice
Hainan chicken rice is one of the most representative of the local Hainan cuisine. In the early days, hawkers will carry the shoulder pole or hold the bamboo basket which fills with boiled chicken and oil rice and sell it on street. It is usually served with cucumber and a dipping sauce of freshly minced red chilli and garlic. At present, Malaysia is generally selling Hainan chicken rice.

2. Hainan bread
Johor Bahru has a famous traditional hainan bread shop at Tan Hiok Nee road. The shop is called Hiap Joo Bakery & Biscuit Factory. The breads have many flavours like kaya, red bean, coconut, butter and others. The shop owner uses the traditional wood furnaces baking to bake the breads. Therefore, the breads are very rich and texture. The most important thing is the owner is not put the preservative and softener in the breads. Hence, customer can rest assured when buying and eating the breads.

Yam Abacus is Hakka traditional food. The ingredients of yam abacus are yam, tapioca flour, minced meat, mushroom, dry shrimp, black fungus and other. The round shape of the yam abacus symbolizes unity. Therefore, a lot of Hakkanese will eat the yam abacus in Chinese New Year. They hope that they will be more careful in reckoning and earn more money in next year by yam abacus.
