album spotlight: decide - djo
release date: 9/16/22
my thoughts: found djo in early 2022 and was very quickly blessed with this masterpiece of an album. truly no skip and i do not say that lightly. ahead of it's time. each song is unique but the overall sound is very cohesive. there's so much weight and depth and fullness to the instrumental. i think it's the bass. unfortunately, his new album is a step down from this one for me. to be fair, no idea how you could follow this up.
top 3 tracks:
1 - half life
fav lyric: in the age of excess, less may be best for me
2 - i want your video
fav lyric: you're in a state, but i'll stay here for you
3 - slither
fav lyric: it makes a nice impression then it slithers away
honorary mentions: fool, go for it, on and on, figure you out, runner

current favs - week of 6/22/25
the walk- imogen heap
once again i am a sucker for a good energy build. excellent mix. love how it feels both robotic and whimsical. also blaming the other person for how you are feeling is such a me thing to do.
fav lyric: total overload, all systems down, they've got control
two-headed boy - neutral milk hotel
i'm pretty sure this was one take, fully acoustic which is CRAZY!!! i love how this song sounds like it hurts to play and to sing which really lend to the themes.
fav lyric: and they'll be placing fingers through the notches in your spine
get by - still woozy
it's summer, aka still woozy season! there were several contenders for this spot but i think this track is the one i've been playing the most lately so it wins. many of his songs are about how the women in his life are better than him, which is a sentiment i'd like to see more often.
fav lyric: i'll never question you ever again

current favs - week of 6/15/2025
arthouse cinema - matt maltese
this song has been on heavyyyyy repeat for the past week. the soft clarinet (oboe? can't tell) paired with the deeper tone of his voice is so addicting. this song is about me but instead of arthouse cinema it's jayvik fanfic...
fav lyric: but it helps to pause the real world / and press play on a different one
gethsemane - car seat headrest
this blog is slowly turning into a csh fanblog but oh well. they just know how to build energy over the course of a song so well.
fav lyric (this was hard, there are so many good ones!): you can call the whole damn squad if you want to
this had better come to a stop - falsettos 2016 broadway cast
this song (and musical) need to be studied for how addictive they are. once this song comes on i literally cannot help but play it another 6 times. god i wish i could sing.
fav lyric: this is incredibly boring

karma police - pierce the veil
lowkey highkey better than the original. the lyrics and style just fit vic's voice so well. thinking of but its better if you do live in denver.....

spotify playlist guide
here's an overview of my main playlists
the lvl playlists - these contain the bulk of the music i actively listen to. songs are given a lvl based on vibes (lyrics, theme, energy level, etc.)
lvl 1 - these are songs that make me want to kms or are very low energy (have not gone through this one in a while bc i rarely put it on)
lvl 2 - lower energy songs. acoustic, less drums, starts out quiet and gets louder (sometimes these are put in lvl 3 or 4)
lvl 3 - mid-level energy songs. perfect summer playlist. mostly soft rock/pop/rnb
lvl 4 - louder/heavier songs. lots of rock and high energy pop
lvl 5 - highest energy, rock/punk/metal
toby fox playlists - undertale/deltarune osts organized. mostly songs longer than a minute
toby fox study - chillest music, quiet
toby fox lvl 3 - the lvl 3 equivalent for only utdr songs (don't play this a lot)
toby fox BANGERS ONLY - just what it says on the tin. mostly battle songs. one of my fav playlists
other playlists - more specific criteria
r n' r - instrumental or non-english only. lots of piano and guitar, soundtracks, and some spoken word (in english). this is my study and sleep playlist. also good for stressful drives.
the silly!! - songs i can't play around other people for various reasons so they are sequestered to their own playlist. lots of lemon demon, tally hall, and the like
there are more but i never play them

bottlerock 2025- in review
missed a lot of daily posts this weekend because i got asked to work at my local music festival last minute. upside: heard a ton of new artists and music!
here's the standouts from the specific stage i worked this weekend:
spiritual cramp (day 1)
post-punk rock with reggae influences. lead singer goes hard. i had a lot of fun and the crowd did too! they were happy to be playing in the bay
my pick (from setlist*): dog in a cage
balthvs (day 1)
psychedelic rock. very funky and they all had great fits. not too much singing so it was a nice break from all of the lyric-heavy rock.
my pick (no setlist): year of the snake
dope lemon (day 1 headliner)
indie rock. went harder live than studio for sure. people were very excited for this guy.
my pick (no setlist): john belushi
bob schneider (day 2)
country/folk rock. very much john mayer vibes. great guitarist. his set was 80% music and 20% stand-up. he was definitely having a great time.
my pick (from setlist): big blue sea
la lom (day 2)
cumbia/psychedelic. one of my favs from the whole weekend. guy on the double bass was tearing it up!!! guitarist was wearing these yellow crushed velvet flares i was OBSESSED with.
my pick (no setlist): alacrán
mon laferte (day 2 headliner)
latin pop. my fav of the weekend BY FAR. her voice is incredible, complete powerhouse. and she had this red/purple leather corset with red hose and a big belt and a purple feather boa, cuntiest outfit ever. her two background dancers ATE. this was also the most fun crowd, they were dancing it up!!!
my pick (no setlist): otra noche de llorar
eggy (day 3)
funk/psychedelic rock. they basically jammed for an hour. great cover of bennie and the jets.
my pick (from setlist): razi >
the war and treaty (day 3)
country soul/blues. holy fucking shit. this was the most impactful set for me, the crowd, and the artist. the biggest crowd at my stage to the point that we had to do a 1-in 1-out situation for VIP. they were incredible. you could feel the love.
my pick (from setlist): blank page
*i was working so couldn't pay attention to the names of songs. if the setlist is online, i'm picking from that. if not, i'm picking a song i either remember or that represents the vibe
