For real, VR is an enormously cool medium of its own, but tech types trying to push it as the future of everything do a disservice to it, too, bc they imagine that the highest application of VR is...a virtual representation of reality you can walk around in, only as a representative human avatar, where everything is a commodity to be bought and sold. Where you have to buy a NFT for your avatar to wear a shirt, and your avatar can't even be a dragon
Whenever someone talks about the Seismic Shift In Our Culture brought on by VR and the metaverse all I can think of is that bit in Dan Olson's Decentraland video where he documents a war over how many thousands of people use it...and then points out even the most generous estimate is equivalent to the numbers on moribund legacy MMOs. The amount of coverage is just wildly disproportionate with how many people ever use it. By any objective standard nobody is in the metaverse*, and business guys are talking about how we've got to sacrifice all real spaces for the BOUNDLESS GROWTH of the metaverse
*which is probably why metaverse types like to claim normal multiplayer games are part of it. No we're not failing Roblox and Fortnite are totally part of the metaverse

Disgusting to imagine that on roleplaying forums across the net AI has probably replaced horribly photoshopping a celebrity into being a fantasy creature. I didn't see so many Angelina Jolies photoshopped to have Trill spots or Vulcan ears on Star Trek roleplaying sites just for people to abandon the Old Ways

Look, obviously more bad reviews came in and it's now at 56% (still oddly respectable), but let's just appreciate that one beautiful day where Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 had 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and we all had to stop and wonder "what is it good"

It's surprising to learn the activist investor trying to take over Disney's board isn't an AI Guy. That's because there's a second activist investor running with the aim of making Disney become leaders in AI and "spatial computing". Because as they say, "Disney will never be valued as a technology company so long as it does not think like a technology company", proposing that they use ChatGPT to meet characters, and have an app that plans your day at Disney parks with AI, something they have already been doing since 2021. But they also want Disney to spin off the parks and invest in virtual reality instead.
The AI guy hates the racist guy for the record, but only because he's unqualified and a "distraction" from their scheme to replace Disneyland with ChatGPT Character Chats
First there was DeSantis & now there's activist investor Nelson Peltz trying to take over Disney's board bc he "doesn't get" why there should be movies with all-female or all-black casts. All-time pair of unbelievably worse guys making us say "well you do not, under any circumstances, gotta hand it to Disney, but,"
