Idk if it's a common consensus already but I just realized Lloyd's power is trying its hardest to keep Lloyd alive during his fight with Garmadon, and that's why it flares up once Garmadon pulls out the Destruction blasts. There's a part where they're both charging their powers, Garmadon hasn't even touched Lloyd, and his power still flares up... it literally sends a wave of energy through him, he twitches, and then he charges at Garmadon.

headcanon time! Lloyd's powers:

When using Oni abilities, his powers turn purple, of course but I've been obsessed with the idea of him gaining those white face markings that Garm and the other onis have. The marks sort of swirl in from the sides of his face. if i was a better animator i'd have shown you. also would be cool if an inexplicable shadow fell over him and him only (even if he was in the sun), making the marks glow more.

Obviously there are two modes Lloyd's got when tapping into the Oni abilties: powered up and full transformation. i'm obsessssssedddd with exposed bones. Garmadon and Mistaké exposed ribcage is such a cool design element. I think in the power-up mode, the torso markings detail are something that glows over him, while in the transformation his ribcage and spine are just Out. But don't worry, I'm sure they're extra durable.

The green one is funky. You know how Lloyd's powers sort of glitched over him during his fight against Garmadon in s8? It was explained that his element was protecting him in a way. Well in my head, in the non-plastic character world the way it's visualized like the green power is sort of illuminating under his skin? its wrapping itself around his bones and organs and stuff as some sort of protective sheild under his flesh, which in part makes him look a little ghostly or radioactive. Probably a bit painful though.

Oni form. TBH i don't like the gold color but i can sort of accept that look if they give us a good reason. Otherwise I figure that since he was wearing proper armor in Crystallized, his transformation was more contained more. I bet if he was wearing a normal gi he'd tear out of it when he turns into a big hulking monster guy. They really should've tapped into the classic werewolf tropes with this oni transformation haha

I hc onis being really BIG beasts. Lloyd's transformation probably takes him up to like 3 meters tall. That could honestly be a really funny contrast though. I think in human mode he'd be really short, so effectively he doubles in size.

okay hear me out what if lloyd himself was a source dragon icon and doesn’t know it and ..that’s why the prismatic blade shattered upon hitting him ..his destiny being tied to the prophecy and apparently there’s another prophecy that doc says we don’t know yet .. and something something about him always being used as a weapon or a tool to do the bidding of greater powers but lacking his own choices or destiny ..

though lloyd’s complete dissociation of what happened in ep 10 is one thing, it makes me sad that in what could of been his last moments that he was reduced nothing more than a thing for thunderfang to conquer— to “stick it to the source dragons”, he was scared and was in pain.

and though he wanted to escape he couldn’t of even had a chance to or even tried from the moment thunderfang targeted him. he was terrified when he realized thunderfang’s goal and still no matter what his destiny was sealed.

also what’s interesting is that morro and the forbidden five’s souls were taken so quick yet it was a struggle to take lloyds own.

got to give it to lloyd to practically die and moments later be like oh.. haha .. well it was a pretty weird day!

lloyd’s main fear has always been his lack of control: oni form because he feared his own nature, morro’s possession being the worst in his life, his role as the conduit and uncontrollable visions that he’ll never be able to actually stop.

he has so little in his life that he has authority over, reminds me of how he knew from his vision that he’d be nearly killed by zeatrix, and he thought he could bypass his destiny until being attacked, to reinforce his choices aren’t his to make.

and the moment she dies the sound effect for lloyd’s power goes off with the closing of her eyes :((

So the Matriarch acknowledges there's a connection between her and Lloyd, and later in DRs2, Motion says all of the slaughtered Arc Dragons belong to either the Motion or Life Source Dragons, so I think it's safe to assume the Matriarch wielded Life energy, and that was her main connection point with Lloyd.
