Plushgun
Happy, saccharine orchestration, repeptition, classic voice tricks, I can't place the accent.  Plushgun is sad loser electronic songs like we all feel.
Go on then, feel bad about how nobody likes you for a second, then stretch out and feel better for it.  Because people do like you.
Here is their website:   http://plushgun.com/

Elodrean - The Price of Love
Elodrean is this chick who writes songs for Tumblr.  Per her blog, she's working on a concept album.  I like this and everything else she does.  It's very lo-fi but clean, with a good fat dash of old-timey pop.
Go to her tumblr and hear things and read thoughts.

Andrew Jackson Jihad
If you've heard of folk-punk, you've heard of Andrew Jackson Jihad.  They're maybe the most prominent band of the movement, and way good besides.
Their lyrics have that accoustic punk sensibility I love so much; half cute dork, half seedy cynic who smokes cigarettes under bridges.  And underneath that, folk guitar, stand-up bass, heart.
You can download their songs in random places (here's an mp3 about #occupy from their website), but they mostly record on vinyl.  If you're interested, go here:  http://andrewjacksonjihad.com/music.htm
I've never talked to you guys about Plan-It X before, but now I will.  It's a record company for real cool people who record in their bedrooms with banjos and ukuleles and heart.
Go find some honesty:  http://www.plan-it-x.com/

Kira Alejandro
I first found her through the YouTube channel of an art camp I went to a long time ago-- Interlochen, if you're interested, is the best place in the world.  I went for viola, singer Kira Alejandro went for songwriting.  That's no wonder; these songs are complex.  They're poppish, too.  I won't be surprised if she finds a wider audience.
Here's her YouTube, full of indiepop covers and originals on uke and guitar.

Hey guys!  It's music!
Hey guess what? I have a new EP out called “Punk Rock and Other Dumb Things.” It has songs about things like setting stuff on fire, listening to Blink-182, and playing Tony Hawk.
Here’s the title track from it! If you like it you can download the whole thing for free at http://paperceilings.bandcamp.com.

Amanda Fucking Palmer
She used to be part of this band called the Dresden Dolls.  Now she's her own punk thing.  Amanda Palmer plays the ukulele about as hardcore-ly as you can play the ukulele.  She draws on her eyebrows with a sharpie and does not posses an unconfident bone in her body.  Her classical piano skills are objectively impressive.
Her first solo album was called Who Killed Amanda Palmer, and she wrote a book to go with it that was mostly pictures of her dead.  This is maybe my favorite of her songs.  If not, then this video is (it's called Gaga, Palmer, Madonna).
She's maybe more well-known (and darker) than some of the other people we talk about on here, but Amanda Fucking Palmer is pretty fantastic so you should check her out.

I do love this person with a large bit of my heart-- go see where she's put hers.
So, I already told you about my tendency to write self-deprecating tragic-comedy songs around the holidays.. And we all know what today is… You probably see where I’m going with this. Once I wrote this song about Valentine’s Day. Anyway, here is a special download for you because I love...

Nora Productions
OK, I've got the DL on that last post.  This chick, I think her name is Nora, covers pop songs on her ukulele.  I like her tone of voice, mellow and it goes well with her campy ukulele sound.  She's not always on pitch, but if you like Nevershoutnever and Bon Iver covers, go for it.
On occasion she'll put out the original song.  This is one of them.  There was a rap once.  All poppish.
It might be the very smooth/cool intros to her videos that hold my real respect.  And her hats.

I follow "Ukulele" on tumblr.  I found this.
I can't tell if the singing and the chords go together, which probably means they don't, but she's got a voice.

What We're Doing Wrong, Liza Jane Branch
This girl knew how to write songs, play guitar and sing, so she recorded an album with her computer and it’s actually good.  I wish I had been nearly so cool at 15.
I’m talking about Liza Jane Branch, a cute lil’ singer-songwriter from Charlotte, North Carolina.  Her indie acoustic sound feels like sleeping in on Saturday mornings.  They’re not recorded very well (she obviously used Garage Band), but I think her voice gets past the bad microphone and shines.
I had her first album, Days and Weeks, on replay for about a week of school bus rides.  Download it for free off Bandcamp.

Rhubarb Whiskey- We All Come To The Same Place
They talk about whiskey and each other, accompanied by boozy accordion and acoustic guitar.  I don't really have a use for drinking songs, but I like the loopy, pedantic, moany sound of Rhubarb Whiskey.  Their heavyset EP is full-band, but I wouldn't suggest listening to it to get your heart beating faster.  If any kind of folky music can do that, it's not this kind.
This song is off of their EP of the same name.  You can download it for free right here.
