General Questions
I have just started using this free service and I am wondering the recipients that I am sending the email to , do they need to be Lockbin subscribers as well?
The other question is how do they open and de-crypt the email and attachments?
Finally I need to send confidential excel formatted documents is this document extension supported?
Thanks
ANSWER:
Thanks for using Lockbin, and for your question.
For our premium members, we want to make the process of sending and receiving messages to recipients as easy and painless as possible, so that you will fully value using the Lockbin service in your business.
The people you send to through the Lockbin service do not have to pay premium subscription fees. When sending to you they inherit your premium benefits.
The first time your recipient arrives at Lockbin, the service quickly guides them through a very simple sign up process which creates their public/private key pair. No invasive information is required, and we fully respect the privacy of your recipients. Essentially, we just need an email address (which we already have received from you), name and a password.
If the recipient later wants to use Lockbin for their own use, to send or receive messages to people other than you, they may voluntarily expand the information and privileges for their account.
And finally, yes, you certainly may send Excel spreadsheet documents through the Lockbin service.

Can I use my current email in Lockbin, or do I need to create a new one dedicated to Lockbin use?
Lockbin does not provide a general purpose email address. It is a store-and -forward service where everything is encrypted until you unlock it. Use your Lockbin account to send secure messages to any other email address or phone text. You can also receive web form replies, and replies to messages you send.

Why is the Secret Message area missing. There is no way to type in the secret password phrase. I cannot figure out how to add it. I'm using Safari, then tried Firefox and can't type in phrase in either browser.

What do we send to the recipient so they can read the email? How do I create a 'password' for the email? Where do I get the 'key'?
Lockbin handles the PGP private key generation behind the scenes. Your key is encrypted with your Lockbin account password, so use a good one. When you send a message to someone, they receive an invitation for a free Lockbin account. In this manner, it is not necessary to exchange passwords. Just let the recipient know beforehand that you will send them a private Lockbin message, so they are expecting it.
Alternatively, Lockbin still supports its legacy “password” system, which requires that a password be agreed upon by sender and recipient. In this method, the sender sets a password, and the recipient types that password to view the message.
Most Lockbin users prefer the non-password system by a 20 to 1 margin, since it is more secure, and easier for recipients.

if i become a premium user are there ads anywhere on my clients notification or on the email itself when the client opens it?
Premium Lockbin accounts do not contain any 3rd party ads (neither do free accounts at this time).

Note
What is the maximum file size per email and what is the maximum email storage- both for free.
There is no pre-set restriction on message storage. For free Lockbin accounts, users can send one file attachment up to 25 MB.
For premium Lockbin accounts, there is no pre-set file size or number of file attachments that may be appended to a Lockbin message.
