Holy **** oh right okay. So I was about to make a post about how using speech to text has already been a game changer for me but as you can see by the line of asterix at the start of this post the bloody thing auto censors swear words. (Yet bloody got through, ig Because it is a description and also British slang.). Hint: the word I was trying to say there starts with F and ends with K.
Oh and guess what else you can't say you can't say? **** [Nipples]. had to type that myself. penis is ok but **** [clitoris] isn't, and all my attempts to say "clit" were Misunderstood, which may just be my speech but at this point I am not willing to give the benefit of the doubt. Vagina is OK too but every time I say it there is a moment when an * shows up on screen first before the full word does. this doesn't happen when I say the word penis.
It is completely heinous. Anybody who needs speech to text is immediately forced to comply with the rules set out by people in a position of power and then enforced by a machine — a machine that is a very powerful accessibility tool. Imagine trying to dictate a letter to a doctor or fill in an E consult with speech to text, only to have words of your anatomy censored as if they are taboo. there is already far too much stigma around genital physical health — and note that I could say genital but can't say **** [clitoris] — for it to be okay for these words to be censored.
And even if somebody just wants to swear In a message to their friends or write smut/**** [pornography], they should be able to. There is no justification for this feature. No reason for it to be default.
I'm trying to find a way around this. There is a settings icon on the little speech to text bar that comes up, but this only gives me options For the speech typing launcher, auto punctuation, and to set the default microphone. it's making me extremely angry

so itchio has shadowbanned any games tagged with 'nsfw', 'adult', or 'erotic' so they don't show up in searches, and several devs have reported that their r18 games have been removed from the site with no warning
you know, maybe the internet shouldn’t be controlled by payment processors and terf lobbyists. and maybe people should be more concerned about this rise of censorship on queer media.

top 5 ancient artistic cultures (not sure about phrasing. yknow like "jomon style" or "anglo saxon art")
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the jade creatures of Hongshen, a late Neolithic culture of northeast China contemporaneous w the latest stages of Sredny Stog and just about all of Yamnaya. attempts to find analogues to these critters in nature have borne little fruit, not least bc the Hongshen appear to had been perfectly capable of pursuing realism in their art – when they wanted to. this article argues the creatures draw inspiration from the shape of human bone and cartillage, like so:

the rest go as follows:

2. figurines of Bronze Age Scandinavia. I just think these look really aesthetically pleasing. look at those curves! idk what to think about attempts to interpret the figurines as depicting historically attested Nordic deities. the most famous artefact to survive from the Nordic Bronze Age, the Trundholm Chariot, seems to depict a myth of only marginal significance to later Norse civilisation
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. the erotic pottery of the Moche, predecessors of the Chimor, who flourished on the coast of northwestern Peru prior to their conquest by the Inca. this post goes a little into the various theories concerning the purpose of the so-called "porn pottery" – I like Larco Hoyle's idea that the pottery (none of which appears to depict penis-in-vagina intercourse) was used by the Moche in order to teach and show methods of natural birth control. but ofc there's a direct analogue in depictions of sodomy on Greek pottery, which doesn't really seem to had served a didactic purpose

4. the Thinkers of Hamangia - not much of a "style" given that it's only these two figurines, I suppose, but these two are my favourite sculptures to come out of Neolithic Europe by far. could write a whole post about them, honestly; definitely among my favourite pieces of prehistoric art in general. afaict, the figurines are nowadays mostly interpreted as a prehistoric equivalent to Gauguin's Where Do We Come From? - I personally prefer to think of them as analogous to his Grape Harvest at Arles

5. cosmetic palettes of late Neolithic Egypt, or what is properly known as the Naqada III phase of Protodynastic Egypt. I just find them to be really pretty – and I kind of love the idea of decorating what is basically a make-up container with depictions of your country's military conquests. the most famous of these palettes is the Narmer Palette; my personal favourite is the Bull Palette, shown on the left. I'd totally use them to mix my kohl

we need more fungi in horror. characters infected by spores, their bodies slowly rotting as the mycelium consumes them. fungal eldritch beings being deities of decay. cordyceps vampires. cults worshipping the mycorrhizal network. fungi as a symbol. fungi as an allegory

Fun fact: in Europe, charcoal makers or colliers were considered somewhat of an odd job. While not rejected outright, despite the very specialized skill set and knowledge needed to do charcoal kilns, they seem not to be highly considered. Charcoal making needs constant attention and is often a solitary job next to sources of wood like forests, so colliers were considered solitary men, the German word Köhlerglaube ("collier’s faith") means a person with blind faith on something, because colliers often didn't have time to go to church to learn what they believed in, they just did.
This solitary lifestyle and connection to the forest, at least in Scandinavian folklore, seems to make colliers a favorite 'target' of forest spirits such as the Hulders or Huldras. Hulders are described as beautiful women (sometimes men, huldrekall) with a hidden non-human trait, like a hollow back or a fox or cow's tails. Colliers who left gifts for them and were kind were repaid by the Hulders tending to their kilns.

Five favorite fairytales? Or fairytale adaptations?
You know, I wonder if it would not be easier to just recommend books of fairy tales :D As a whole I really enjoy Scandinavian fairytales the most, but I would feel bad if I filled an entire "top 5" list with them.
East of the Sun, West of the Moon - absolute favourite, and Kay Nielsen created gorgeous illustrations
Slavonic Fairytales, by John T. Naake (I appreciate it for including the tale about Twardowski, which is one of my most favourite Polish stories :D it's very Faustian)
Troll Magic: Hidden Folk from the Mountains and Forests of Norway, by Theorodr Kittelsen
Wonder Tales from Baltic Wizards, by Frances Olcott (this one has a very fun narrative structure, and it's fun to read, though maybe not as useful if you want to learn the context)
Not sure if it counts but Mabinogion (because it's welsh sagas, but like... where exactly do you draw the line between sagas and legends and folklore and fairytales, you know?)
Also a reminder that you can use Anna's Archive to download books !

Saw a post about how halal and kosher meat will likely be the only reliably safe options in the US because their safety and cleanliness standards aren't dictated by what's the barest legal minimum that government food safety regulations demand.
So you're like 5 years away from "ever notice how the musulmans and jews never get sick from bad meat? clearly this is proof that they are poisoning us" right now.
